THE PLAYS

Upside:

Play Date: 08/19/2008
SGEN (Seattle Genetic--$0.00; 0; optionable): Biotechnology
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/sgen.html
EARNINGS: Announced 7-22-08
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle. A big rangy 9 month base that broke higher to start the month and is now making the test of that breakout. Nice tap at the 18 day EMA on the Tuesday low and then a rebound to close basically flat. Nice shakeout and recovery, setting SGEN up for the continued break higher. Very solid.
Volume: 335K Avg Volume: 455K
BUY POINT: $12.11 Volume=600K Target=$14.48 Stop=$11.44
POSITION: DGQ LB - Dec. $10c (73 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 08/19/2008
TTEK (Tetra Tech--$28.39; -0.13; optionable): Technical services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/t/ttek.html
EARNINGS: Announced 7-30-08
STATUS: Breakout test. Nice orderly test this month of the big break higher on earnings that took TTEK out of its 9 week reverse head and shoulders pattern. Big volume on the break and run to a new high; like to see good volume on a new high as it shows buyers really moving in even at that level. Now just waiting for the pullback to run its course and TTEK to give us the break higher.
Volume: 453.689K Avg Volume: 740.903K
BUY POINT: $29.22 Volume=1M Target=$33.95 Stop=$27.89
POSITION: TQI LE - Dec.$25c (76 delta) &/or Stock

Downside:

Play Date: 08/19/2008
DXD (ProShares DJ30 UltraShort ETF--$63.03; +1.66; optionable)
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/dxd.html
STATUS: With DJ30 breaking below its up trendline, we are looking to play its downside move if it continues the break. We will look to move in with a part position on a further break lower and then add when it makes a test of the break; often a break of support brings about a test of the support or some degree thereof, and when the bounce runs out of gas we can buy again at that point. A bit safer as it gives us some assurance the move is going to really happen if the test fails and we are not risking all of our money for the play at the beginning.
Volume: 6.884M Avg Volume: 7.291M
BUY POINT: $63.28 Volume=7.5M Target=$69.85 Stop=$621.50
POSITION: DXD JJ - Oct. $62c (59 delta)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/ci/dxd.html

Play Date: 08/19/2008
GDI (Gardner Denver--$44.60; -1.68; optionable): Machinery
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/g/gdi.html
EARNINGS: 10-22-08
STATUS: Put. A gap lower on earnings formed an island reversal for GDI, and as this was a gap down after a gap up, that makes it a downside reversal. After rebounding to test that gap lower, a move that was stymied by near resistance at the 18 day EMA (47.05), GDI started to break lower Tuesday. Looking for a move down near the 200 day SMA (41.32) as our initial target, and that gives us a 42%ish gain.
Volume: 413.148K Avg Volume: 689.191K
BUY POINT: $44.48 Volume=700K Target=$41.45 Stop=$46.32
POSITION: GDI VI - Oct. $45p (-47 delta)
