Begin part 3 of 3
THE PLAYS:
Upside: Given the reversal and some really great upside patterns we will see what a rally from these levels gives us.
Play Date: 09/16/2008
ESRX (Express Scripts--$76.67; +2.30; optionable): Mail order prescriptions
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/e/esrx.html
EARNINGS: Late October
STATUS: Ascending triangle. Taking another run at ESRX as it starts the breakout from its 8.5 month base. Strong volume Tuesday as it made the move, ready for a run to a new all-time high. Strong money flow. Looks super.
Volume: 3.824M Avg Volume: 2.51M
BUY POINT: $76.91 Volume=2.8M Target=$87.95 Stop=$73.41
POSITION: XTQ AO - Jan. $75c (61 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 09/16/2008
FDX (Federal Express--$92.00; +1.50; optionable): Freight, express mail
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/f/fdx.html
EARNINGS: Announced 9-18-08
STATUS: Trend reversal. Tried to base out from Q2 2006 to mid-2007, but failed, selling off in a 14 month downtrend, using the 200 day SMA (88.07) as resistance. Rallied up to that level in August, faded, but made a higher low at the 50 day SMA in late August and early September, something of a double bottom. Broke through that level Thursday, moving on strong volume. Worked laterally to test, then broke higher Tuesday on a strong shot of above average volume. Money flow is surging higher, leading the way for the stock price to follow. Solid reversal of fortune and looking to move in after FDX resumes the break higher.
BUY POINT: $92.45 Volume=5M Target=$102.00 Stop=$87.89
POSITION: FDX AR - Jan. $90c (57 delta) &/or Stock

IP (International Paper--$30.31; +0.42; optionable): Paper products
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/i/ip.html
EARNINGS: Late October
STATUS: Trend reversal. After peaking in July 2007 IP sold off below the 90 day SMA (now at 26). Broke higher in early August, rallying to the 200 day SMA (28.58) then moving laterally below that key level, testing the 50 day EMA (27.36) to start August. Nice test and then started moving up the past week on strong trade. Tested back Monday and gapped to the 10 day EMA (29.42) Tuesday before reversing on strong volume for a gain. Strong break over the 200 day and looks ready to continue the run higher.
Volume: 9.395M Avg Volume: 5.78M
BUY POINT: $30.43 Volume=8.5M Target=$35.95 Stop=$28.45
POSITION: IP AF - Jan. $30c (54 delta) &/or Stock

SF (Stifel Financial--$43.65; +2.62; optionable): Investment brokerage
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/sf.html
EARNINGS: 11-10-08
STATUS: Cup w/handle breakout. Surging higher Tuesday as it makes the breakout from its 12 month base, following strong money flow higher. The climate for financials is ripe and SF is heading for a new all-time high with some massive trade.
Volume: 429.538K Avg Volume: 359.829K
