stock split, stock research

Begin Part 3 of 3

WATCHLISTS:

PRE-ANNOUNCEMENTS WATCHLIST: AHC (4/24), AROW, BMS, BRL, DRYR, ESI (4/18), GTK, LE, LSTR, MMM (4/22), MRBK, MUR, PHM, RNR, SLM, STI (4/15), KRI (4/24), STU, SUI and XL.

BER ($57.76; +0.07): Working on a date. BER is approaching the left-side highs of its cup (from November). It could be leveling out and pulling into a handle here, so we will look for a nice, gradually descending pattern on low volume. The 18 day MVA is below at 56.90.

PNRA ($62.70; +1.12): Working on a date. Tested its early March high at 60 but pushed back up today. PNRA is still in its handle to the cup dating back to early February. We will see if it can continue up toward the handle high of 66.13.

ACDO ($58.29; +0.24): Forecast to announce a split with earnings on 4-29-02. After the breakout to a new high ACDO has slowed a bit, and today showed another doji with a spike of volume. That could indicate a test back, and we will see if it can hold the former pattern highs at 55-56.

KRB ($37.25; -0.08): Forecast to announce a split on 4-11-02 in conjunction with earnings. The company will not release the date for earnings, but based upon our research this should be the date. Has dipped back out of its consolidation. Going toward the forecast we will see if it can hold the 50 day MVA (36.43) and set something up.

FITB ($66.27; +0.14): Forecast to announce a split on 4-16-02 before the market in conjunction with earnings. Continues to drop down toward the 50 day MVA (65.31) after a couple of downgrades. Not a severe drop volume-wise, so if it can hold on well we could get a solid move in time.

ATK ($106.55; +0.64): Forecast to announce a split on 5-9-02 before the open with earnings. Made an impressive breakout move, and is holding up, moving laterally on light volume the last couple of sessions. Holding positions, and on a strong move from here we will adjust the target from 110 to 115.

EXPD ($59.22; +0.33): Tapping back to the 50 day (58.12), and after the low-volume drop we expect it to hold this support and run back up toward the breakout from the reverse head & shoulders. The breakout is ver 61.50 on volume of 550,000, with stock and/or August $55 calls to buy (URP HK - low open interest).

IFIN ($71.45; -0.76): Looking at an announcement on 4-16 with earnings or with the 4-23 shareholder meeting. IFIN had been in a nice consolidation, but fell back Wednesday and today gave up the 50 day MVA (72.35) with a spike in volume. Never hit the buy point, but needs to recover fast to set something up.

CYN ($51.77; +0.47): Forecast to announce a split with earnings 4-16-02 before the open. After failing to take out the March high on the last move up and forming a possible double top, we are watching carefully to see if CYN can hold the 50 day.

MGA ($72.51; -0.44): Forecast to announce a split 5-2-02 with earnings or on 5-9-02 in conjunction with its annual shareholder meeting. Has pulled back into the range of the recent pattern, but volume was low today as MGA dipped back to the 18 day MVA (72.23). If it can hold, still looking at a breakout at 74.60 on volume of 400,000, with stock and/or August $70 calls to buy (MGA HN).

CPS ($57.16; +2.31): Forecast to announce a split on 4-18-02 in conjunction with earnings. Dropped back out of its little consolidation, but caught support at the 50 day MVA (54.24) for a good bounce back up today. The bounce shows solid support, so we are holding positions.

PDCO ($45.92; +0.77): Researching a date. Continues up toward the target of 48, getting a big infusion of volume today (1.5 million; average 232,600) as it announced an acquisition.

RUS ($32.05; +0.05): Forecast for its annual shareholder meeting on 4-24-02 at
2:00 ET. The company has sufficient shares for a 2:1 split. Pulled back to the 18 day MVA (31.96), but is holding with four consecutive dojis. The aggressive can look at positions with stock on move over 32.20 with continued strong volume.

PRE SPLITS WATCHLIST: Watching DCOM, DHI, DRI, THQI, and MKC (the latter looking like a pullback).

ADSK ($43.59; +0.19): Splits 2:1 effective 4-19-02. ADSK dropped from its ascending wedge, landing and holding the 50 day (43.46), today showing a doji. We will see if it can hold and set something up.

WTNY ($48.65; +0.56): Splits 3:2 effective 4-10-02. Has tumbled back, setting off a trailing stop along the way. It is holding the 50 day MVA (47.65), and if it can hold for a bit we will see if it can bounce.

PMI ($76.75; +1.10): Splits 2:1 on a date TBA (shareholder approval sought at 5-16-02 meeting). After its powerful move Tuesday, PMI dropped back but is trying to hold the March highs at 76. Holding positions on a continued move toward the target of 85.

WRI ($52.75; +0.61): Splits 3:2 effective 4-16-02. Continues its nice move after gapping down to open today. It has made a solid run from the 50 day MVA (then 50), and the target is 55.

CONTINUING CANDIDATES WATCHLIST: When splits are not announced, we will keep the best split prospects on the report rather than continue to carry all of them in case there is a an unexpected announcement. We will continue to monitor the stocks that are trimmed and add them again when we ascertain a revised split announcement date. These include APPB, AZO, BBBY, DHR, ETH, GNSS, JCI, LLL, MI, PII, RARE, RYL, STJ, THC and YUM.

BBY ($77.01; +2.02): Was in a nice consolidation, but a conservative outlook took it down to the 50 day MVA at 74, where it is holding, today with a bounce. We will see if it can set up again.

GOSHA ($46.28; +1.43): Nice breakout! Today it continues up, moving on slightly lower volume (46,600; average 41,500) on today's nice move. Targeting 49.

INVN ($35.50; -1.90): After giving up the 50 day MVA (39.24), INVN continued down again today on volume that was down, but still strong at 2.63 million (average 1.79 million). It is at support of the February lows, and we will see if it can hold on the heels of its announcement of a new public offering. It will have to set up again for a new play.

TGIC ($42.76; +0.36): Has made a pullback on very low volume, and is holding 42. We are looking for TGIC to continue to hold this level, and the breakout is a move over 43.53 on volume of 80,000, with stock.

POST SPLITS WATCHLIST: Watching ACS, BSG, GILD, ICUI, JEC and MGAM

CHS ($32.82; +1.55): Were looking for a put, but after the strong bounce Wednesday, today CHS continued up and closed over the 50 day. Volume was much lower today, but for the play to happen we will see if it fails here with strong selling. On a drop back through 31 on volume of 800,000, May $35 puts to buy (CHS QG - 50 open interest).

SONC ($26.18; +0.47): Another stock that is showing strength on a move back over the 50 day (25.92). We will see how it handles the resistance after its recent strong drop. We will see. On a drop through 25.25 on increased volume, May $30 puts to buy (ZSQ QF - low open interest).

WLP ($64.91; +0.70): Split 2:1 effective 3-18-02. WLP has taken a nice jump from its 50 day MVA (61.88), and is encountering some trouble at its high. It has formed a cup, and we will see if it forms a handle here, setting up a breakout move. After a low volume dip back that holds 64, 65.37 on minimum volume of 1 million, with stock and/or July $62.50 calls to buy (WLP GZ).
