THE PLAYS:
Upside:
Play Date: 06/11/2009
CREE (Cree, Inc.--$29.36; -0.12; optionable): Chip equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/cree.html
After Hours: $30.16
EARNINGS: 08/11/2009
STATUS: Nice strong gap up the last week of May. CREE has come back to test that move, holding at near support at the 18 day EMA (29.25) and the early May and September 2008 highs, all coincident. Nice three layer thick ice, and a good place for CREE to make the bounce and continue its impressive move higher.
Volume: 1.263M Avg Volume: 1.464M
BUY POINT: $29.77 Volume=2.2M Target=$34.31 Stop=$27.69
POSITION: CQR IE - Sept. $25c (75 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 06/11/2009
KSU (Kansas City Southern--$16.60; +0.51; optionable): Rails
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/k/ksu.html
After Hours: $16.60
EARNINGS: 07/30/2009
STATUS: Flat base. Looking at KSU again as the rails start to show life, e.g. BNI. KSU is tightening its pattern the past week, moving in a very tight closing range just over the 50 day EMA (15.89). That pinching off suggests KSU may be getting near the end of its 3 month flat consolidation. Some solid upside volume spikes during this month, what we call 'get ready' spikes as in 'get ready for a blast higher.' Another one fired off on Thursday. Nice start on Thursday and if it can continue Friday it is a buy.
Volume: 2.872M Avg Volume: 2.035M
BUY POINT: $16.69 Volume=3M Target=$19.95 Stop=$15.33
POSITION: KSU IC - Sept. $15c (60 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 06/11/2009
SGR (Shaw Group--$30.97; +0.37; optionable): Engineering
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/sgr.html
After Hours: $30.97
EARNINGS: 04/08/2009
STATUS: SGR formed a short double bottom in May, holding at some support at 26 and bouncing. Rallied up to resistance at 30 and jumped over it Tuesday on solid, above average volume. Working laterally the past two sessions, and if SGR continues higher on Friday it is worth moving into some positions.
Volume: 1.513M Avg Volume: 2.326M
BUY POINT: $31.44 Volume=3M Target=$35.95 Stop=$28.94
POSITION: SGR JF - Oct. $30c (60 delta) &/or Stock

Downside:
Play Date: 06/11/2009
AIPC (American Italian Pasta--$28.09; +0.20; optionable): Pasta
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/aipc.html
EARNINGS: 05/12/2009
STATUS: Who could have anything against pasta? Nothing here, but the pattern is as limp as an over-boiled noodle. Gapped lower from a February to May head and shoulders in mid-May, sold down near 22, and then rebounded through the start of June. It is moving laterally the past 7 sessions, bumping into resistance at 28ish. Stronger downside volume Wednesday and just a flat session Thursday, showing a Hirami doji pattern. With the Wednesday high volume loss, if AIPC breaks below the Thursday low (27.83), it is a buy to the downside as the downside momentum is likely to continue. A move to the target lands a 48%ish gain.
Volume: 203.487K Avg Volume: 516.6K
BUY POINT: $27.88 Volume=550K Target=$25.31 Stop=$29.22
POSITION: AQB SF - July $30p (-59 delta)

Play Date: 06/11/2009
SDS (UltraShort S&P500 ETF--$52.89; -0.63; optionable)
After Hours: $53.15
STATUS: The ultrashort ETF play on the SP500. If the financials break lower they will take SP500 with it and the SDS is a good way to play that move.
Volume: 49.709M Avg Volume: 47.276M
BUY POINT: $54.21 Volume=55M Target=$59.94 Stop=$51.38
POSITION: SSH IA - Sept. $53c (55 delta)
