THE PLAYS:

Upside:

Play Date: 06/17/2009
MR (Mindray Medical Intl.--$25.56; -0.09; optionable): Chinese medical instruments
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/mr.html
After Hours: $25.59
EARNINGS: 05/11/2009
STATUS: Breakout test. Friday MR surged higher out of its 4.5 month base, surging on strong volume. This week it is coming back on low, lower, and yet lower volume in something of a 1-2-3 pullback to test the move, holding over the 10 day EMA (24.97). Nice easy pullback. Medical sector is improving. China is supposedly recovering. Good combination and looking for a move higher off of this test to give us the entry.
Volume: 369.442K Avg Volume: 1.001M
BUY POINT: $26.11 Volume=1.5M Target=$31.45 Stop=$24.31
POSITION: MR JE - Oct. $25c (61 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 06/17/2009
PBR (Petroleo Brasileiro--$40.28; -0.82; optionable): Brazilian oil and gas
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/pbr.html
After Hours: $40.35
EARNINGS: 08/07/2009
STATUS: Test trendline. PBR continues in its uptrend channel. It sold back with the energy stocks the past week and on Wednesday tapped at its 50 day EMA (39.02) on the low and bounced on solid, above average volume matching the Tuesday selling trade. This is where it has bounced many times on this move and if it shows another upside push we will try and play another bounce up to the top of the channel near 47.
Volume: 21.085M Avg Volume: 20.81M
BUY POINT: $40.68 Volume=25M Target=$46.95 Stop=$38.88
POSITION: PBR NO - Oct. $39c (54 delta) &/or Stock

New buy points on current positions:

Play Date: 06/17/2009
AKS (AK Steel Holding--$18.18; -0.17; optionable): Steel
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/aks.html
After Hours: $18.15
EARNINGS: 07/21/2009
STATUS: Test 18 day EMA. Tremendous surge from mid-May to mid-June as AKS impressively extended its May breakout from its base that started forming in January. We took some solid gain last week and now AKS is making the test, tapping at the 18 day EMA (17.13) on the Wednesday intraday low and then rebounding to close flat. This test took it right back to its 38% Fibonacci retracement level, a good point for a bounce and a continuation move. May snug up a bit more to the 18 day before bouncing, but the set up is solid, and if the dollar continues its weakening as shown Wednesday, then this stock could again find a bid and start another great run higher.
Volume: 13.118M Avg Volume: 9.72M
BUY POINT: $18.32 Volume=15M Target=$21.98 Stop=$17.04
POSITION: ASJ IW - Sept. $17.50c (64 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 06/17/2009
SOHU (Sohu.com--$63.82; -0.18; optionable): Chinese internet provider
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/sohu.html
After Hours: $63.74
EARNINGS: 05/04/2009
STATUS: Test 18 day EMA. Very similar to AKS, SOHU is testing its 18 day EMA (63.82) and that is also a 38% Fibonacci retracement. Strong surge after the mid-May test of its early May breakout from its November to April base and now a nice, typical test. This is the second test following the breakout move, and that is wholly normal action. This dip on Tuesday and Wednesday filled the small gap from early June as well. Now it just needs to show a bounce higher that holds into the last hour to show us it is a buy.
Volume: 987.922K Avg Volume: 1.839M
BUY POINT: $64.65 Volume=1.9M Target=$74.88 Stop=$62.38
POSITION: UZK IL - Sept. $60c (64 delta) &/or Stock

Downside:

Play Date: 06/17/2009
CERN (Cerner--$59.65; +0.79; optionable): Healthcare information
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/cern.html
After Hours: $59.65
EARNINGS: 04/28/2009
STATUS: CERN is at a 52 week high but is below the peaks at 66 from 2007. It has spent the past six weeks angling higher but without a lot of power, bumping 60 in late May. Wednesday CERN tried to make the breakout over those prior highs but then reversed to close below them. While CERN is near a new high it could easily topple from this pattern and give us a nice downside move. This Wednesday move is the start of a potential failure move and if it continues lower we will look at playing a downside move on this one. Nice risk/reward ration. A move to our initial target lands a 63%ish gain.
Volume: 1.018M Avg Volume: 1.397M
BUY POINT: $58.48 Volume=1.4M Target=$54.45 Stop=$60.22
POSITION: CQN SL - July $60p (-49 delta)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/ci/cern.html

Play Date: 06/17/2009
FAST (Fastenal Company--$33.68; +0.33; optionable): Fasteners, building materials
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/f/fast.html
After Hours: $33.85
EARNINGS: 04/14/2009
STATUS: Put. FAST double topped in April and early May and sold off through May. It bounced this month to 36 and stalled. It rebounded last week to that same level and stalled again, rolling over and falling through the March to May up trendline. It is bumping that level this week, reversing off the highs Wednesday. Always like this topping pattern below another topping pattern. Looking for another turn lower to enter a downside position. A move to our initial target lands a 41%ish gain.
Volume: 1.839M Avg Volume: 2.01M
BUY POINT: $33.23 Volume=2M Target=$30.11 Stop=$34.68
POSITION: FQA TG - Aug. $35p (-51 delta)
