THE PLAYS:
Upside:
Play Date: 06/27/2009
GR (Goodrich--$49.96; -0.94; optionable): Aerospace/defense
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/g/gr.html
After Hours: $49.96
EARNINGS: 04/23/2009
STATUS: Test 50 day EMA. Putting GR back on the report as it comes off the 50 day EMA (47.56), holding support as it tests the strong late May to early June surge. Paused Friday after a nice bounce up through the down trendline Thursday. An interesting ABCD pattern. Looking for a continued move higher from the Friday close to enter the position.
Volume: 1.275M Avg Volume: 1.627M
BUY POINT: $50.55 Volume=2M Target=$56.95 Stop=$47.41
POSITION: GR KJ - Nov. $50c (57 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 06/27/2009
INT (World Fuel Service--$39.81; +0.83; optionable): Sale and marketing of fuel products
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/i/int.html
After Hours: $39.75
EARNINGS: 05/07/2009
STATUS: This is a bit different pattern with somewhat of a bearish posture (head and shoulders and shoulders), but it is holding key support at 38 to 40, holding that on last week's low. Bounced up to the 50 day EMA on the Friday close. After the sprint higher in June INT's tests is a stair-step pullback to support that often leads to a rebound to test the prior highs. Despite the look the risk/reward positioning is solid; if it makes the move we make some very nice gain. If it cannot make the move our stop is close at hand.
Volume: 1.548M Avg Volume: 697.214K
BUY POINT: $40.22 Volume=850K Target=$47.88 Stop=$37.41

MT (Arcelor Mittal--$33.31; 0.00; optionable): Steel
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/mt.html
After Hours: $33.00
EARNINGS: 07/29/2009
STATUS: Test 50 day EMA. MT is one of the steel stocks that surged in May, breaking out of a 5 month base. Kind of s choppy pullback to support, but it has held well and bounced last week off the Tuesday low. Another one of those stair-step pullbacks that can give a nice rebound off of this support. It held the breakout, using key support. Good volume Thursday and Friday as the CEO sees 'green shoots.' It has closed some mills and is positioned well heading forward. Ready to move in as MT continues the upside advance.
Volume: 7.499M Avg Volume: 8.33M
BUY POINT: $33.77 Volume=9M Target=$39.95 Stop=$31.41
POSITION: MZB IZ - Sept. $32.50c (59 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 06/27/2009
PMTI (Palomar Medical Tech--$14.27; -0.02; optionable): Medical appliances
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/pmti.html
After Hours: $15.00
EARNINGS: 07/30/2009
STATUS: Testing further but now showing signs of holding up with a pair of hammer dojis Thursday and Friday. Thus we have PMTI back on the report. Great break higher the first week of June, exploding out of a 5.5 month base. It has retraced half the move, holding at the 50% Fibonacci both sessions to end the week. It can move laterally a bit more here and still be fine. Want to enter on a solid move higher that holds into the last hour.
Volume: 919.397K Avg Volume: 369.218K
BUY POINT: $14.82 Volume=550K Target=$17.91 Stop=$13.78
POSITION: HKQ KV - Nov. $12.50c (70 delta, wide spread) &/or Stock

Play Date: 06/27/2009
SYK (Stryker--$40.85; -0.31; optionable): Medical instruments
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/syk.html
After Hours: $40.84
EARNINGS: 07/21/2009
STATUS: Ascending triangle. Solid volume on the upside sessions the past two weeks as SYK prepares for the breakout from its 7 week base. Very solid action followed by a strong volume price move Thursday. Could not hold the move to the close, and Friday it was off a hair, but a solid pattern and still a good gain on volume. Looking for the move to continue to start some positions.
Volume: 4.479M Avg Volume: 2.522M
BUY POINT: $41.39 Volume=3M Target=$46.95 Stop=$38.96
POSITION: SYK IH - Sept. $40c (58 delta) &/or Stock

Downside:
Play Date: 06/27/2009
AKAM (Akami Technologies--$20.09; -0.02; optionable): Internet infrastructure
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/akam.html
After Hours: $20.04
EARNINGS: 04/29/2009
STATUS: Bear flag. AKAM tried to squeeze one more upside move in early June similar to its May break higher, but it didn't have enough petrol left in the tank. It reversed and gapped lower, selling through Tuesday. Strong downside volume. It rebounded Wednesday to Friday with the market, making it up to price resistance at 20 as well as the 10 day EMA (20.32). Hard selloff followed by an easy 1-2-3 rebound to resistance. Looking for a new rollover from here as AKAM breaks lower. A move to the initial target lands a 50%ish gain.
Volume: 5.495M Avg Volume: 4.394M
BUY POINT: $19.88 Volume=6M Target=$17.97 Stop=$20.77
POSITION: UMU TD - Aug. $20p (-45 delta)

Play Date: 06/27/2009
AZO (Autozone--$149.85; -2.24; optionable): Auto parts stores
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/azo.html
After Hours: $149.83
EARNINGS: 05/27/2009
STATUS: Put. Usually people are more inclined to repair their cars in recessions, but you have to go with what the chart is showing you. AZO has set up a large 4 month umbrella to, breaking lower Wednesday on strong volume when most stocks were breaking higher. Modest bounce Thursday and another soft session Friday. Looking for a break lower to give us a play down to support near 140. A move to the target gives us a 52%ish gain.
Volume: 1.36M Avg Volume: 1.129M
BUY POINT: $149.15 Volume=1.5M Target=$141.05 Stop=$153.32
POSITION: AZO TJ - Aug. $150p (-48 delta)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/ci/azo.html
Play Date: 06/27/2009
TEX (Terex--$12.40; -0.28; optionable): Heavy machinery
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/t/tex.html
After Hours: $12.40
EARNINGS: 04/21/2009
STATUS: Test breakdown. TEX formed a descending triangle through mid-June and broke lower, selling off through Monday. It recovered with the market to end the week, making it back up to the 10 day EMA (12.71) on the Friday high, then fading from that near resistance that matches up with price peaks from April. This is something of a 1-2-3 pullback to test the breakdown and it is a classic setup to move lower. A move to the target lands a 58%ish gain.
Volume: 2.323M Avg Volume: 3.97M
BUY POINT: $12.28 Volume=4.2M Target=$10.15 Stop=$12.88
POSITION: HAG TM - Aug. $13p (-50 delta)
