THE PLAYS:
Upside:
Play Date: 10/28/2009
ACF (Americredit--$17.53; -0.35; optionable): Financial services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/acf.html
After Hours: $17.60
EARNINGS: 10/21/2009
STATUS: Flag. ACF formed a shallow cup with handle August through mid-October and then blasted higher on strong volume, riding its strong earnings report. It is testing back the past four sessions, holding at the 10 day EMA (17.51) as well as the August peak on the move. Nice break, nice test. Just looking for a move higher to hold into the close to give us the buy.

BGCP (BGC Partners--$5.24; -0.14; optionable): Investment brokerage
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/bgcp.html
After Hours: $5.33
EARNINGS: 11/03/2009
STATUS: Breakout test. BGCP surged to start October, jumping sharply out of a 9 week flat base. Strong upside run to 5.70 and then a test back the past week and one-half to hold the 18 day EMA (5.24). Like how it is moving laterally here along this near support as it holds above the 38% Fibonacci retracement (5.06). Showing solid relative strength and just going to wait for BGCP to make the break higher and hold it into the close.
Volume: 319.49K Avg Volume: 297.045K
BUY POINT: $5.37 Volume=400K Target=$6.45 Stop=$5.08

Play Date: 10/28/2009
PNC (PNC Finanical--$49.60; -1.11; optionable): Money center banks
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/pnc.html
After Hours: $49.50
EARNINGS: 10/22/2009
STATUS: Flag. PNC blasted off a week back, gapping out of a pennant formation the prior 6 weeks. Strong volume on the surge as earnings were pleasing to investors. Very pleasing. It is testing this week, thus far a short and lower volume 1-2-3 pullback. It could come back a bit more and tap the 10 day EMA (48.63) that is coincident with the late September high. That would not hurt the pattern at all. Very nice relative strength in a weak market. Want to make sure it holds and starts back up, holding the move into the last hour to give us some confidence it is going to hold the move and start a new bounce.
Volume: 5.869M Avg Volume: 6.062M
BUY POINT: $48.87 Volume=7.5M Target=$57.95 Stop=$47.32
POSITION: PZH AX - Jan. $48c (60 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 10/28/2009
SRZ (Sunrise Assisted Living--$4.56; -0.45; optionable): Long term healthcare facilities
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/srz.html
After Hours: $4.95
EARNINGS: 08/06/2009
STATUS: ABCD. SRZ surged higher in early October, clearing a 5 month base, its first off the March low, and racing higher. Peaked just over a week ago at 5.89 and then started the test. It has made it back to the 18 day EMA on the Wednesday close. We want to see it hold in this general range and then bounce. If it holds the move into the close it is a buy.
Volume: 1.455M Avg Volume: 2.232M
BUY POINT: $4.66 Volume=2.8M Target=$5.65 Stop=$4.42
POSITION: SRZ AZ - Jan. $2.50c (94 delta) &/or Stock
