THE PLAYS:

Upside:

Play Date: 10/29/2009
ADSK (Autodesk--$25.85; +0.37; optionable): Technical software (CAD)
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/adsk.html
After Hours: $25.85
EARNINGS: 08/13/2009
STATUS: Flag. ADSK surged higher to start October, moving off the bottom of its 8 week double bottom base. Nice breakout and run up to 27.30 on the high. The past week ADSK tested that move, coming back with the market and on lower, below average volume. Volume did jump Wednesday as it tested the August peak, the 18 day EMA, and the 38% Fibonacci retracement point. Thursday ADSK started to bounce higher. If it can continue and preferably show some volume it is a buy after this very nice test to a solid breakout.

http://biz.yahoo.com/p/h/hal.html
After Hours: $30.40
EARNINGS: 01/25/2010
STATUS: ABCD: HAL is tracing out this pattern over the past two weeks. HAL surged from the early October pullback through last week, sporting some strong volume along the way. It is now stepping back and in this pullback has outlined an ABCD pattern. Thursday it surged higher, forming the D point. Ready to move in as HAL continues higher. If it tests back to 30 and holds, cool.
Volume: 18.4M Avg Volume: 15.16M
BUY POINT: $30.54 Volume=23M Target=$34.95 Stop=$28.41

After Hours: $46.94
EARNINGS: 10/20/2009
STATUS: After surging on earnings ITW sold back with the rest of the market the past week but it was very orderly, unlike many stocks. ITW held the 18 day EMA (46.11) that is coincident with the 38% Fibonacci retracement level. Good bounce Thursday, and if ITW can continue we will move into some positions.
