Begin Part 3 of 3
WATCHLISTS:
PRE-ANNOUNCEMENTS WATCHLIST: BMS, BRL, EDMC, MUR, SLM, STU and XL.
PDCO ($50.60; +1.25): Researching a date. Just continues to ramble. Targeting 57.
LSTR ($107.07; +2.32): Researching a new date. Has made a great move, continuing up today although on much lower volume. We could see a test of the former highs at 105, and a successful test could provide another chance to add to stock positions.
NYT ($49.01; -0.68): Working on a forecast date. Pulled back through the 18 day MVA (49.11) to close, but is still holding prior highs. Volume was up, but still below average, so we will continue to watch for this breakout test to hold and produce another move.
ABC ($78.95; +0.14): We are researching a forecast date. Little change today as ABC continues to drift up the 10 day. Wary of a test lower here after higher volume on a doji today.
JCI ($87.49; -1.81): Working on a new announcement date. JCI fell out of its promising pattern, gapping back through the 50 day MVA (68.57) today on big volume. We will see if it can recover.
PHM ($53.33; -1.18): Working on a new announcement date. Pulled back again, this time on higher volume. Holding the 18 day MVA (53.22) for now, and if it can continue to hold, still looking for a breakout of the pattern, targeting 67.45. 56.30 on volume of 1.2M, with stock and/or October $50c to buy (PHM JJ). Stop 51.
DLX ($44.87; -0.97): Researching a split announcement date. Dropped back in the handle, closing below the 50 day (45.06) but volume remained below the average. We will see if it holds on and shapes up.
JEF ($46.89; -0.93): Researching a new announcement date. Dropped out of the double bottom with handle, taking out the 50 day MVA (47.37) today. It has made a habit of dipping below that support, however, and has made some solid rebounds. We will see if it can stop the bleeding here.
TFX ($57.28; +0.05): Forecast to announce a split on 7-17-02 with earnings. The company has not confirmed a time for the release. Continued its pullback, and is now just holding the 18 day (57.36). The 50 day is below at 55.81. Need a revoery to set up a breakout and buy. Over 59 on volume of 170k, with stock.
CTAS ($51.64; -0.70): Working on a new announcement date. CTAS has dropped back, tripping our trailing stop alert on the way. Today volume picked up (1.74m) as CTAS closed back below the 50 day (51.92). Not good.
PRE-SPLITS WATCHLIST: Watching RNR (5/31), FBC (6/3), ALC (6/4), ESI (6/6), CPS (6/7), UPC (6/7), MI (6/15), PMI (6/18), YUM (6/18) and PNRA (6/25).
RYL ($107.50; -3.00): Splits 2:1 effective 5-31-02. Dropping back to the 50 day (104.38) going into the split. Watching for potential post-split weakness, with that key support at a gauge.
SRCL ($68.99; -1.10): Splits 2:1 effective 6-3-02. Could not continue the bounce today, pulling back again on lighter volume, closing back below the short-term MVA's (69.65). A bit tight with the split date now to jump in, and we will see if it continues to hold the 50 day and sets up post-split.
IFIN ($76.51; -0.35): Splits 2:1 effective 6-17-02. Holding up over the short-term MVA's now (75.75), today with a huge volume spike (439k) as it tested that support at its low. The aggressive play is still over 77, with July $75c to buy (FLQ GO).
JNC ($58.55; -0.56): Splits 2:1 effective 6-25-02. Did not bounce today, instead holding relatively level over the 50 day MVA (57.90). Looking for a move over the 10 day MVA (59.88) to start the next run, with stock. Target going toward the split: 69.
BER ($58.47; -0.08): Splits 3:2 on or about July 3. Another doji on the 50 day MVA (58.32). If it can hold, we are looking for the upward swing to set up the move over the pattern high of 61.20 on volume of 160k, with October $55c to buy (BER JK - 62 OI).
CONTINUING CANDIDATES WATCHLIST: When splits are not announced, we will keep the best split prospects on the report rather than continue to carry all of them in case there is a an unexpected announcement. We will continue to monitor the stocks that are trimmed and add them again when we ascertain a revised split announcement date. These include ASD, BBBY, CYN, DIAN, ETH, ETN, EXPD, GNSS, GOSHA, INVN, KLAC, KRB, KSS, MEG, MGA, MMM, MTG, PII, RCII, RUS, STI, TGH, TGIC and WEN.
AHC ($82.07; -0.80): AHC dipped back a bit today, below the prior pattern highs but still holding the 18 day MVA (81.65), doing so on strong volume. It could still move off of today's doji. We look for a move over 84.70 on volume of 930k (avg. 620k; today 565k), with stock and/or August $80c to buy (AHC HP).
ACDO ($53.70; -0.44): Continues to hold with a fourth doji under the 10 day MVA (54.35). The aggressive play is still a move back through 53 on increased volume of 800k, with August $55p to buy (DZU TK).
CAKE ($38.16; -0.02): Gave up the 50 day (39.26) Tuesday, and after a continued drop CAKE showed a 'hammer' doji today on strong volume. That pattern indicates a bounce, and we will evaluate that move, as it is setting up a possible put.
EASI ($48.20; +2.26): Bouncing around like a rubber ball now, today shooting back up on an upgrade and taking out the put stop point. We will let it settle down from here.
FITB ($65.00; +0.30): Gapped down today but recovered, and volume was way up on the day at 2.9m (avg. 1.73m). With existing put positions we are watching the strength of this move up carefully.
MHK ($66.05; +0.20): MHK could not continue its recent breakout move, but the fall looks to be broken at the 50 day MVA (66.69). WE will see if it can hold this support and set up something.
PII ($67.67; -0.32): Did not make the test of the 50 day (69.54) right away, instead gapping back today. PII managed to push back up with big volume, and we will still look for a test back up to set up a possible put.
THC ($74.20; +1.22): Splits 3:2 effective June 29. Making a strong move back up, closing just under the recent high at 75.45. Hit the buy point, and we are still targeting 86.
POST SPLITS WATCHLIST: Watching ABM, ACS, AMAT, APOL, ANN, CHBS, CHS, COCO, DF, FAST, FULT, GG, GTK, JEC, MCHP, OPTN, PFCB, RYAN, SONC, STZ, SU, UOPX, WTNY, WTSLA and ZRAN.
BBY ($45.05; -0.58): Split 3:2 effective 5-13-02. Tapped the 200 day MVA at its low today of 44.63, very close to the put target of 44.25. We will look at exiting here as we could see a bounce.
PRHC ($25.54; +0.94): Split 3:2 effective 5-1-02. Good move! PRHC was in an extending handle to a double bottom, but was easing up from the 50 day MVA (23.19) on light volume, not showing much. Today volume kicked in (1.03m; avg. 596k), and PRHC made a strong move toward the recent high (26.15, from earlier this month). It could need to rest a bit before taking out resistance, so we will look for PRHC to hold over 25 and set up a breakout move.
WLP ($74.92; +2.13): Continues its strong move up after having tested below its 50 day (69). Today volume picked up again, and WLP appears to be headed for its recent high at 78.
