us stock market, stock recommendation

Begin Part 2 of 2

THE PLAYS

Good movers: THC flying; PHM broke out; NYT broke out; KLAC broke down; ADVS broke down; TECD hit the target.

BONUS PLAYS:

New:

AXP (American Express--$37.98; -0.72; optionable): Credit services
Play Date: 06/19/2002
http://biz/yahoo.com/p/a/axp.html
STATUS: Put. AXP has made us money before in this downturn, and after bouncing up from the last selling binge it has moved up to the 18 day MVA (39.32) on the high the past two sessions and rolling over today to close near the 10 day MVA and near the session low. Volume did not ramp up on the reversal which would have been the best action, but we anticipate it to start to rise again on further selling. We are looking to take advantage of the next drop down from the 18 day MVA.
Volume: 4.09M Avg Volume: 4.678M
BUY POINT: $37.75 Volume=500K Target=$34.05 Stop=$41
POSITION: AXP SI - July $45 put (-91 delta) or AXP VH - Oct. $40 put (-51 delta; light but more time)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/ct/axp.html

Revisited:

MHP (McGraw-Hill--$59.89; +0.15; optionable): Book publishing
Play Date: 06/18/2002
http://biz/yahoo.com/p/m/mhp.html
STATUS: Put. Looks ready now. A big tombstone doji that tested the 200 day MVA on the high (61.09).
Volume: 546.1K Avg Volume: 552.318K
BUY POINT: $59.55 Volume=600K Target=$56 Stop=$61.25
POSITION: MHP TM - Aug. $65 put (-61 delta) or MHP TN - Aug. $70 put (-74 delta)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/mhp.html

ODSY (Odyssey Healthcare--$35.40; +0.92; optionable):
Play Date: 06/05/2002
http://biz/yahoo.com/p/o/odsy.html
STATUS: Ascending wedge. A new issue in November 2001, ODSY has rallied to 36 and now has formed an ascending wedge at that level as it rides up the 50 day MVA. It tested the 50 day MVA late last week and bounded off of that level Monday. It tried to make the move today but though volume was better, it was not above average. Looks really solid here, and it is in the right sector.
Volume: 106.5K Avg Volume: 176.863K
BUY POINT: $36.10 Volume=250K Target=$42 Stop=$33.57
POSITION: Stock and/or UPE JF - Oct. $30 call
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/odsy.html

PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT BEST PLAYS

HUG: Stalled at the breakout, moving lower on strong, above average volume. Still in the pattern.

PHM: Made the breakout move on some strong volume!

PRE-SPLITS BEST PLAYS:

ERES: From 6-18 report. Got cold feet at the breakout point but on low volume. Keep a close eye on this one tomorrow.
KSWS: Made the move but could not hold most of it. Still looks good. See 6-18 report
THC is flying.
PNRA moving well for us.

CONTINUING CANDIDATES BEST PLAYS

KLAC from 6-18 report falling as expected.

AZO (Autozone--$81.9; +1.07; optionable): Auto parts
http://biz/yahoo.com/p/a/azo.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. Did not make the buy point today, but it is looking very good. It moved up off of the 18 day MVA on rising, average volume. If we get another strong volume session tomorrow we will be tempted to add a few positions before it breaks to the new high. Accumulation weeks are ahead of distribution weeks in the patter 6 to 3; very good accumulation.
Volume: 1.071M Avg Volume: 1.008M
BUY POINT: $83.50 Volume=1.5M Target=$99.50 Stop=$77.66
POSITION: AZO IO - Sept. 75 call (71 delta) and/or stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/azo.html

POST SPLITS

CUB (Cubic Corp.--$24.30; -0.95; optionable): Scientific & technical
http://biz/yahoo.com/p/c/cub.html
STATUS: Put. Tested the 50 day MVA (25.84) on the high Tuesday and then reversed on rising volume. It was not a massive volume tank, but it is definitely in sell mode and on that stronger volume. Looks good for dome downside action here that we can take advantage of. Taking what the market gives is what you have to do.
Volume: 150.9K Avg Volume: 131.136K
BUY POINT: $23.99 Volume=180K Target=$20.5 Stop=$26.75
POSITION: CUB VF - Oct. $30 put (-56 delta)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/cub.html

JAH (Jarden--$19.35; +1.00; no options): Rubber & Plastics
Play Date: 06/19/2002
http://biz/yahoo.com/p/j/jah.html
STATUS: Getting back to basics, JAH is doing what economically sensitive stocks do after they split: they breakout or move to new highs. Tuesday gave a heads up with the rising volume on the 18 day MVA, and today it made the move. We should have caught it Tuesday, but this is still a good move, and we are looking to get in on some positions here.
Volume: 144.7K Avg Volume: 61.227K
BUY POINT: $19.65 Volume=125K Target=$23.5 Stop=$17.25
POSITION: Stock (no option chain

WATCHLIST/ CONTINUING

We have put all plays in a summary table that contains the date the stock was put on the report (so you can go back and check out the details of the play) and the other pertinent information.
