Upside:

New Pre-Announcement Play:

Play Date: 02/02/2010
JOSB (Joseph A. Banks--$42.80; +1.11; optionable): Apparel stores
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/j/josb.html
After Hours: $42.68
EARNINGS: 3/01/2009
STATUS: After clearing a four month downtrend to start January, JOSB slid back once more, back down to the reversal point. It reversed Tuesday after undercutting that point, bouncing up to the 50 day EMA. A good start but needs to make the break through the second trendline running from the early January peak. Retailers continue to set up and perform and JOSB looks ready to make the break back upside.

Volume: 250.532K Avg Volume: 299.533K
BUY POINT: $43.28 Volume=425K Target=$49.94 Stop=$41.34
POSITION: JOSB 10G40.00 - July $40c (68 delta) &/or Stock

New Post-Split Play:

Play Date: 02/02/2010
PLXS (Plexus--$33.45; -0.69; optionable): Printed circuit boards
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/plxs.html
After Hours: $33.10
EARNINGS: 04/21/2010
STATUS: Flag. PLXS gapped higher on its earnings report in January, clearing the early January peak hit as it broke out of a 5 month trading range. Strong move as volume surged on the break and the run higher. It is now testing, coming back the past week to near support at the 10 day EMA. That is where we are looking for PLXS to hold and bounce. May take another session or two before it is ready, but there is no hurry of course.

BUY POINT: $34.28 Volume=425K Target=$42.45 Stop=$32.89

Leader Play:

Play Date: 02/02/2010
MR (Mindray Medical Intl.--$35.78; +0.98; optionable): Chinese medical instruments
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/mr.html
After Hours: $35.78
EARNINGS: 2/08/2010 (not confirmed)
STATUS: Test 50 day EMA. MR broke out of a 5 month trading range mid-December. It immediately tested on very low volume, then broke higher to start 2010, rallying over 40. Strong move and it is testing again, coming back to the 50 day EMA the past week, holding that level. Monday it undercut that point and then reversed to hold it; good shakeout. Tuesday MR bounced upside but there was no real volume pushing it and it stalled at the 50 day EMA. In excellent position to make the next break higher. When it can make the break and hold it we are ready to move in.

Volume: 409.603K Avg Volume: 1.019M
BUY POINT: $36.26 Volume=1.4M Target=$41.95 Stop=$33.91
POSITION: MR 10G35.00 - July $35c (58 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 02/02/2010
MTB (M&T Bank Corp.--$75.00; +0.10; optionable): Regional banks
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/mtb.html
After Hours: $75.00
EARNINGS: 01/20/2010
STATUS: Pennant. Broke out from a 10 week cup with handle base in early January, rallying ahead of earnings. Rallied too far, and when results came out MTB jumped then turned over. It sold back, but it did not sell off, holding near support at the 18 day EMA. It checked up there and has moved laterally the past week, holding its own as the market sold. Solid relative strength. Good setup, minding its own business, and we will just wait for MTB to make the break higher and show us it is time to get in.

Downside:

Play Date: 02/02/2010
BTU (Peabody Energy--$44.26; +0.07; optionable): Industrial metals
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/btu.html
After Hours: $44.06
EARNINGS: 01/26/2010
STATUS: Bear flag. After a steady stair-step higher BTU has made a lower test this time around. It has not made a lower low, but it did crack a trendline from the July low. Strong selling Friday, then a bounce higher Monday and Tuesday, showing a hanging man doji Tuesday at that trendline. BTU set up head and shoulders off the late December peak, and it broke the neckline last week. This is a test of that level and if BTU rolls back over from here we move in for the next move lower. A move to the target lands a 59%ish gain.
VIDEO: http://investmenthouse1.com/ihmedia/BTU.wmv
Volume: 6.803M Avg Volume: 5.284M
BUY POINT: $44.06 Volume=7M Target=$40.55 Stop=$45.69
POSITION: BTU 10O45.00 - Mar. $45p (-52 delta)

Play Date: 02/02/2010
BUCY (Bucyrus International--$55.70; +2.02; optionable): Mining heavy machinery
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/bucy.html
After Hours: $55.71
EARNINGS: 02/19/2010
STATUS: Bear flag. An industrial leader that is also struggling, selling off harder through the end of January than on the entire run higher. It broke the 50 day EMA on that selling then spent Monday and Tuesday rebounding on lower and lower trade to test that level. It may bounce higher on up to 60 if the market continues its bounce, but if it fails here then we will be ready to move in and play it for the next leg lower. That move lands a 42%ish gain.
VIDEO: http://investmenthouse1.com/ihmedia/BUCY.wmv
Volume: 2.488M Avg Volume: 2.7M
BUY POINT: $54.96 Volume=3.4M Target=$50.04 Stop=$56.44
POSITION: BUCY 10P55.00 - Apr. $55p (-42 delta)

Play Date: 02/02/2010
EEM (Emerging Markets ETF--$39.63; +0.32; optionable)
After Hours: $39.62
STATUS: Bear flag. Emerging markets made a lower low in late January, undercutting support at 40. As with other areas of the market, it has rebounded this week, rallying to the 10 day EMA on Tuesday's peak. It may make another move higher, completing a 1-2-3 rebound up near 40, then roll back over. If it makes that move we enter the play for a ride down toward the October low. That move lands a 55%ish gain.
VIDEO: http://investmenthouse1.com/ihmedia/EEM.wmv
Volume: 91.744M Avg Volume: 70.15M
BUY POINT: $39.21 Volume=90M Target=$37.29 Stop=$40.88
POSITION: EEM 10O40.00 - Mar. $40p (-50 delta)
