THE PLAYS:
Not many current plays on the report look ready to buy into right now given the current market conditions. Rather than try positions that we are not totally comfortable with we are looking at playing some plays that the market looks as if it is giving us.

DSCM (Drugstore.com--$2.94; +0.14; no options): Internet software

STATUS: Flat base. DSCM has been building in a 7-month base since the beginning of the year. The accumulation in the base has been excellent with 9 weeks of gains on rising volume versus just 1 week of losses on rising volume. It has tested resistance at 3 several times and Wednesday rallied to that level on much stronger, rising volume. It looks as if it is ready to make the breakout and that can make us some money here.

STATUS: Put. It seems all consumer and economically sensitive stocks are under pressure, and AVY peaked in May and has trended lower since. It broke the 200 day MVA (58.84) last week. It is testing that level, but has been unable to hold over it on the close. Wednesday is showed a tombstone doji right below the 200 day on much lighter volume. That pattern indicates it is ready to start moving down once again.

MXIM (Maxim Integrated--$41.27; +0.28; optionable): Semiconductor

STATUS: Put. MXIM is at a critical point itself, tapping the 50 day MVA (42.71) Wednesday and then rolling over on very strong volume. It held the 18 day MVA on the low (39.85) and rebounded. After a $7.50 move the past 4 sessions, MXIM is either going to consolidate a bit for a breakout, or it is going to sell off. In order not to get sucked in to a false move lower, we are going to let it moved down through support at 40 and look at how it is holding up near the close. The stock has some room to fall so that gives us plenty of time to see if it is going to give us the look we want, i.e., closing below support and on strong volume.
