POST-SPLIT

Play Date: 10/12/2002
APOL (Apollo Group--$43.03; -0.29; optionable): Education and training
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/apol.html
STATUS: Testing the short term MVA. After a wild ride in October with the DV warning, APOL has recovered and is holding above the 18 day MVA at 43. The price/volume action has improved again, and APOL appears to be preparing for the next chance to move. After some weakness early in the week, looking for APOL to make a strong move up.
Volume: 3.647M Avg Volume: 2.489M
BUY POINT: $44.24 Volume=3.3M Target=$50.88 Stop=$42.05
POSITION: OAQ BH - Feb. $40c (67 delta) and/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/apol.html

Play Date: 10/12/2002
LAND (Landair--$12.31; +1.91; no options): Trucking
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/l/land.html
STATUS: Breakout. Huge breakout Friday on a volume surge after moving in a 6-month trading range. The breakout puts it at an all-time high and we like that because there is no overhead resistance to push it back. This is a very thinly traded stock but the action is good. We are looking for a test back toward 11.50 to 12 early in the week, and then on a move higher we enter.
Volume: 23.2K Avg Volume: 5.078K
BUY POINT: From here: $12.35. After a test of 11.50 to 12. Volume=25K Target=$14.85 Stop=$11.49
POSITION: Stock (no option chain)

Play Date: 10/12/2002
PFGC (Performance Food Group--$35.07; +0.22; optionable): Wholesale food
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/pfgc.html
STATUS: Testing the 200 day MVA (34.58). Working through something of a 5-month double bottom w/handle base, PFGC broke over the 200 day MVA early in the month on strong volume and is now testing that move. It did not participate in the late-week rally and that presents some concern, but if it does hold here at the 200 day that is a good launching point. We are initially looking at a simple move up to the high at 38 and are looking at options for that move, but PFGC has some of the best credentials in the market and we will let it work for us with stock positions as well. Accumulation is positive at 7 up weeks on rising volume to 6 down weeks on rising volume.
Volume: 449.43K Avg Volume: 453.846K
BUY POINT: $35.25 Volume=500K Target=$38 Stop=$33.75
POSITION: PGU LF - Dec. $30c (82 delta, 73 OI)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/pfgc.html

Play Date: 10/10/2002
MCHP (Microchip--$23.18; +1.52; optionable): Semiconductors
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/mchp.html
STATUS: Break resistance. MCHP gapped higher Friday but spent much of the session trading off of the high (24.11). Volume was up but we did not enter positions Friday given the gap up and narrow range the rest of the session. Looking for a test of 22 early in the week and when it starts back up that is when we will enter. We are looking at this play as trade up to near the 200 day MVA (25.43).
Volume: 6.014M Avg Volume: 4.764M
BUY POINT: A test back toward 22 and on the rebound 22.25. Volume=6M Target=$25.75 Stop=$20.32
POSITION: QMT AW - Jan. $17.50c (77 delta) and/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/mchp.html

Play Date: 10/12/2002
SHFL (Shuffle Master--$20.10; +1.28; optionable): Card shufflers
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/shfl.html
STATUS: Breakout ascending wedge. Friday saw SHFL make a high volume breakout move of the 4-month wedge. Accumulation in the pattern was positive at 6 up weeks on rising volume to 5 down weeks on rising volume. This wedge is part of a larger 6-month cup base, and it looks as if SHFL is ready to make a run up to form the right side of its base. This is a good pattern to take positions on as it makes that move. After it rallies we can either take some gain or see if it forms a handle.
Volume: 759.382K Avg Volume: 286.106K
BUY POINT: $20.38 Volume=375K Target=$24 Stop=$18.75
POSITION: SFQ BW - Feb. $17.50c (74 delta) and/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/shfl.html

Play Date: 10/12/2002
THC (Tenet Healthcare--$49.4; -0.2; optionable): Hospitals
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/t/thc.html
STATUS: Testing the 50 day MVA. After moving to a new high early in the month THC tested back quickly to the 50 day MVA (48.86), tapping that level on the low and rebounding some on very strong volume. Strong volume tests of the 50 day MVA are good if the stock can bounce. We are looking to play that bounce. Accumulation in the 4-month cup base is solid at 4 up weeks on rising volume to 2 down weeks on rising volume.
Volume: 4.021M Avg Volume: 2.844M
BUY POINT: $50.05 Volume=4M Target=$55 Stop=$48.55
POSITION: THC AI - Jan $45c (70 delta) and/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/thc.html

Play Date: 10/05/2002
XRAY (Dentsply--$40.99; +0.09; optionable): Dental supplies and instruments
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/x/xray.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Forming a handle to its 8-week base though the action Thursday was straight down on high volume, not the nice, quiet action you want to see as a stock drifts lower. Friday it held the 18 day MVA on the low (40.59) as trade quieted down. We are going to be patient and let XRAY give the strong breakout. Accumulation is positive at 2 to 0 in this short base.
Volume: 701.469K Avg Volume: 669.606K
BUY POINT: $42.28 Volume=900K Target=$48.75 Stop=$39.32
POSITION: XEQ DH - April $40c (64 delta) and/or Stock
