us stock market, stock trading info

Begin part 2 of 3

THE PLAYS:

In each report we prepare full write-ups for those that look ready to move. If the move has been made already we discuss the play in the summary table. The purpose is to focus on the next good movers.

NEW PLAYS: Splitting stocks are often market leaders and thus we do not just focus on them at points where they are expected to announce or before they actually split. They provide many opportunities to invest in them and this section is where we can look at some former split stocks and other stocks that are in good position to make us money. In addition, there are emerging trends in the recent move off of the double bottom, and we want to capture those stocks emerging from the obscurity as well.

Upside:

BWS (Brown Shoe Co.--$24.52; +0.53; no options): Footwear
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/bws.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Working on the handle to its 5.5 month base showing solid accumulation at 5 up weeks on rising volume to 3 down weeks on rising volume. One thing that we really like is that money flow continues to move up ahead of the stock price as it moves laterally; tha tis an indication of continued accumulation even as the stock shakes out the last sellers. The past two sessions volume has spiked back up to above average as the stock started up off the 18 day MVA. Looks ready to make its move.
Volume: 157.5K Avg Volume: 90.909K
BUY POINT: $25.59 Volume=165K Target=$30.65 Stop=$23.65
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/bws.html

QSII (Quality Systems--$23.19; -0.11; no options): Healthcare Info systems
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/q/qsii.html
STATUS: Testing the 18 day MVA. After breaking out of a very flat 10 month base in October, QSII is making its second test of the short term MVA, moving laterally in a very tight and flat trading range the past 10 sessions. Price/volume action the past 2 weeks in the lateral move has been very good. Accumulation is outstanding at 4 to 0 and money flow has started to move up ahead of the stock again even as it moves laterally. Another smaller cap stock looking stronger.
Volume: 29.9K Avg Volume: 21.454K
BUY POINT: $23.55 Volume=55K Target=$28 Stop=$22.35
POSITION: - Stock (No option chain)

VSAT (Viasat--$11.7; +0.02; optionable): Communication equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/v/vsat.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. VSAT broke a year-long downtrend in October, and is making its first test of the 18 day MVA after testing the 50 day MVA (just below 10). This makes this point a good time to enter as it is early in the move after the test. It has moved laterally the past three weeks with a constant top at 12. Accumulation is positive at 8 accumulation weeks to 6 distribution weeks and money flow continues to move up ahead of the stock as price moves sideways. That is often a harbinger of the move up to come.
Volume: 136.25K Avg Volume: 206.863K
BUY POINT: $12.26 Volume=320K Target=$15.45 Stop=$11.35
POSITION: IQS EB - May $10c (70 delta) and/or Stock

Play Date: 11/30/2002
EXPE (Expedia--$69.48; -0.53; optionable): Online travel. Forecast to announce a split on 1-26-03 in conjunction with earnings. The company has not confirmed this date, but based upon our research this is the date for the release.
BACKGROUND: Based upon our research it does not appear that EXPE has ever split its stock. The company has sufficient shares for a 2 for 1 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/e/expe.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. EXPE continues to work through what is turning out to be the handle of its 7.5 month base. It got the dips Friday, falling to the 50 day MVA near 67, but then recovered Monday. It is right at the short term MVA, testing them on the high (70.80). The breakout is up at 78, but if there is a strong volume move over 72.50 we will start building further positions.

STATUS: Testing the breakout. Started up off the 18 day MVA (44.68) Monday on some rising, above average volume. Looking solid but then ran into a bit of trouble Tuesday on lower volume as most retail had a tougher day. Looks like a minor setback.
