PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS

Continued:

Play Date: 03/13/2003
BSX (Boston Scientific--$43.55; -0.5; optionable): Forecast to announce a split on 5-6-03 in conjunction with earnings. The company has not confirmed this date, but based upon our research this is the date for the announcement
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 2 for 1 split on 8-27-98 at a stock price of $40. The annual shareholder meeting was on 5-7-02. The company has sufficient shares for a 2 for 1 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/bsx.html
STATUS: Cup. Took a rest Friday after Thursday's strong move off the 50 day MVA (42.25) Friday on above average volume. BSX continues to work through its 2-month base that follows after a strong move up from the September lows. It may take another session or two to consolidate, but we are looking to enter on a move over the February high.
Volume: 1.73M Avg Volume: 2.275M
BUY POINT: $44.55 Volume=3.4M Target=$50.55 Stop=$41.65
POSITION: BSX HV - Aug. $42.50c (62 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 02/15/2003
CECO (Career Education--$48; +0.46; optionable): Education and training. Forecast to announce a split on 4-8-03 in conjunction with earnings. The company has not confirmed this date, but based upon our research this is the date for the announcement.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 2 for 1 split on 4-31-01 in conjunction with earnings. The stock price was $61. The annual shareholder meeting was on 5-11-02 at which time authorized shares were increased. The company has sufficient shares for a 2 for 1 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/ceco.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Good move up to the breakout point Friday as volume moved up and CECO moved somewhat counter-market. The stock is continuing to work toward a breakout from its 2.5 month base. We just remain patient on this one.
Volume: 724.323K Avg Volume: 698.5K
BUY POINT: $48.07 Volume=1.4M Target=$54 Stop=$45.74

BACKGROUND: EBAY announced a 3:1 stock split 1-26-99 and then a 2:1 stock split in April 2000 at a stock price of $140.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/e/ebay.html
STATUS: New high breakout. Still moving higher on above average volume. Good opening move, and we will look for a test as the next entry point.
Volume: 7.616M Avg Volume: 5.202M

Play Date: 02/20/2003
FCN (FTI Consulting--$42.45; -1.1; optionable): Management services. Looking for a split announcement in early May.
BACKGROUND: Last split 2:1 on 1-17-2002.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/f/fcn.html
STATUS: Ascending triangle. Looked really good, building for a move higher but then dumped lower Friday on strong, above average volume. Managed to hold above the 50 day MVA on the close (41.98), so we will see if it can rebuild. It is still in the base; the dip lower did not change that. It just put a breakout further off. Outstanding 6 to 0 accumulation in the base.
Volume: 542.3K Avg Volume: 232.136K
BUY POINT: $44.05 (orig. $42.96) Volume=400K Target=$48.38 Stop=$40.15
POSITION: FCN FH - June $40c (66 delta, low OI) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/fcn.html

IGT (International Game Technology--$78.98; +3.15; optionable): Forecast to announce a split on 4-22-03 during the market in conjunction with earnings.
BACKGROUND: Based upon our research it does not appear that IGT has ever split its stock. The annual shareholder meeting was on 3-4-02 at which time no additional shares were authorized. The company has sufficient shares for a 2 for 1 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/i/igt.html
STATUS: Rolling. Strong move up Thursday on rising though still below average volume gave way to some lighter volume selling Friday as the market took the day off. Still working through a 3.5 month base, forming a good pattern while the market sold off. Letting it work through the pattern and give us the breakout.
Volume: 1.146M Avg Volume: 1.051M
BUY POINT: $80.06 Volume=1.2M Target=$88 Stop=$77.74
POSITION: IGT GO - July $75c (63 delta) &/or Stock

SYK (Stryker--$67.25; +0.75; optionable): Medical instruments. Working on a date for SYK
BACKGROUND: Last split 2:1 5/15/2000. Price at the time of announcement was $60.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/syk.html
STATUS: Cup. Gapped higher Friday on rising, above average volume, SYK ran up to 68.20 on the high but gave that run after the gap higher back. Still managed a solid session after jumping up on lower voume Thursday. The doji indicates that SYK may edge back to near 66.50 or so and then start up again. Solid accumulation at 2 up weeks on rising volume to 0 down weeks on rising volume. Money flow continues to run higher ahead of price. After a test lower early this week SYK could be a good entry point on a move back up.
Volume: 1.022M Avg Volume: 685.318K
BUY POINT: Test toward 66.50, then 66.75 on the move back up (orig. $65.55) Volume=800K Target=$73.75 Stop=$63.94
POSITION: SYK IM - Sept. $65c (55 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 02/25/2003
TTC (Toro--$68.75; -0.2; optionable): Motorized farm and home tools. Just announced earnings and looking trying to pinpoint a date. Announcements sometimes come after successful earnings reports, and TTC had a good one.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/t/ttc.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. Continues to move laterally over the 10 day MVA (68.34) on continued below average volume. A very nice lateral move, we are waiting for the next breakout on volume to start the next leg.
Volume: 77.1K Avg Volume: 88.636K
BUY POINT: New: $69.55 (orig. $68.85) Volume=137K Target=$76.55 Stop=$65.35

XTO (XTO Energy--$25.03; +0.07; optionable): Independent oil and gas. Splits 4:3 on 3-19-03
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/x/xto.html
STATUS: Testing the 50 day MVA (24.75). XTO has dropped all the way to the 50 day, undercutting it on the Friday low but then rallying back on rising, above average volume. This is exactly the type of signal we look for on a pre-split play. We will look to pick it up on the bounce higher to catch a run into and maybe through the near term split.
Volume: 1.106M Avg Volume: 817.136K
BUY POINT: $25.55 Volume=1.2M Target=$28.75 Stop=$24.33

PSUN (Pacific Sunwear--$19.72; +0.72; optionable): Apparel
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/psun.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. A nice, neat 7-week base that started forming two weeks after the split, showing outstanding accumulation at 3 up weeks on rising volume to 0 down weeks on rising volume. PSUN started the breakout Friday on a second day of strong, above average volume. Very strong action and we are willing to take positions from here as it has just started the move.
Volume: 2.018M Avg Volume: 1.091M

ANPI (Angiotech Pharmaceutical--$21.12; +0.62; optionable): Drug manufacturer
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/anpi.html
STATUS: Breakout. Another nice post-split move by ANPI, this time hanging onto most of the gain. A bit far to chase right now, it will need a pullback for new positions.
Volume: 191.882K Avg Volume: 222.227K
BUY POINT: $20.74 Volume=156K Target=$24 Stop=$19.88
POSITION: AUJ FD - June $20c (55 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 03/04/2003
GSOF (Group 1 Software--$16.4; -0.17; no options): Application software
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/g/gsof.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Not jumping higher in the Thursday action, GSOF continued to work on the handle its 2.5 month base. Accumulation remains strong and money flow is still rising ahead of the stock price. A huge volume spike Thursday indicated that there is still ongoing accumulation, and we will patiently wait for a breakout.
Volume: 99.24K Avg Volume: 104.227K
BUY POINT: $17.05 Volume=164K Target=$20.55 Stop=$15.86

Play Date: 03/04/2003
UOPX (University of Phoenix Online--$38.89; -0.87; optionable): Internet education
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/u/uopx.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Tried the breakout Thursday on a good shot of volume, but then reversed Friday on even stronger, above average volume. It tapped the 10 day MVA on the low (38.20) and bounced back some from that low. It may test back to 38 again as the market consolidates the next few sessions; after the higher volume selling UOPX will need that. Then if it starts back up on rising volume that will be the entry point. Accumulation at 2 up weeks on rising volume to 0 down weeks on rising volume. Earnings are released on 3-25.
Volume: 272.909K Avg Volume: 205.636K
BUY POINT: New: Test of 38, then 38.45 on rising volume (orig. $37.96) Volume=300K Target=$43.75 Stop=$35.32
POSITION: UBY FG - June $35c (68 delta) and/or Stock
