Begin Part 2 of 2
War has started. Striking leadership positions trying to take out Hussein and other Iraqi leaders. 'Target of opportunity' as they apparently had intelligence as to where Hussein et al were located. The action seems to be trying to take out leaders first. No real heavy bombardment, ground war has not started.
THE PLAYS
Good moves: APOL; EXPE; BCGI; TTC; UOPX
In each report we prepare full write-ups for those that look ready to move. If the move has been made already we discuss the play in the summary table. The purpose is to focus on the next good movers.
NEW PLAYS: Additional plays can be found in Pre-Announcements, Pre-Splits, and Post-Splits.
Upside:
Play Date: 03/19/2003
ACTL (Actel--$18.51; -0.08; optionable): Semiconductor
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/actl.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. ACTL broke over the May 2002/January 2003 down trendline three sessions back and is moving laterally on lower volume after that breakout. This is action we are seeing in many chip stocks, and when the chips lead, the market follows. Accumulation since the December peak is solid at 3 up weeks on rising volume to 0 down weeks on rising volume. We are looking for ACTL to test back toward 18 to 17.75 over the next two or so sessions. After that we are looking for a strong volume move higher.

DSCM (Drugstore.com--$3.5; 0; no options): Internet drugstore and info center
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/dscm.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. DSCM has worked through a big 15-month cup base, blasting out of that base the 5 sessions back. It has now come back to test the breakout on lower and lower volume holding Wednesday just over the 10 day MVA on the low (3.38). Accumulation during the long base is solid at 17 up weeks on rising volume to 2 down weeks on rising volume. Money flow is powering up ahead of the stock and relative strength has broken out. Nice test and we are looking to get in when it starts back up.

Upside:
Play Date: 03/19/2003
QCOM (Qualcom--$39.12; -0.13; optionable): Communication equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/q/qcom.html
STATUS: Cup. QCOM is working through a 3.5 month cup, rallying up off a month-long consolidation at 34, using rising volume on the rally up to form the right side of the base. It capped out at 40 and has moved sideways the last two session on lower, below average volume, showing consecutive doji's. This is good consolidation action and we are looking for a breakout over these highs to start the next leg. May take another session or two to get ready, but we like it.

XLNX (Xilinx--$26.47; -0.46; optionable): Semiconductors
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/x/xlnx.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. XLNX surged higher as we anticipated, hitting 28 on the recent high with a great volume surge. It has pulled back the last two sessions on lower and lower volume. It showed a doji Wednesday, tapping 26 on the low and bouncing some. As it did, it held significant support at 26, the twin highs from December and January. This is a prime entry point as it holds support on a modest pullback after a strong move higher. Looking for a bounce up on some volume.

PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS

SYK (Stryker--$69.26; -1.02; optionable): Medical instruments. Working on a date for SYK
BACKGROUND: Last split 2:1 5/15/2000. Price at the time of announcement was $60.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/syk.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle breakout test. SYK blasted out of the 10-week base Monday, and tested back to the 10 day MVA on the Wednesday low (67.45) before making a strong rebound to close basically flat. We decided it was time to move in and issued an alert for some new positions. It may test back once again toward the 10 day MVA before a definitive move, but it was a solid breakout and it shows a lot of support at near term resistance.
