THE PLAYS
Good movers Monday: AETH; CCU; CY; ICST; JPM; MER; MVL; NBIX; NCN; TWTC
Best Plays:
1) DANKY: Nice pattern and good accumulation.
2) XING: Trying the breakout.
3) BGEN: Nice handle, showing some volume Friday.
4) NSCN: Great volume as NSCN prepares for the breakout.
5) ONXX: Huge volume, showing a hammer doji.
6) SRNA: Ready for the breakout.
7) WSTC: Looks ready for the next move.
8) WTW: Made the test and now starting the fall.
NEW PLAYS:
Upside: Looking at some smaller stocks with a flair (good patterns, accumulation).
Play Date: 06/02/2003
DANKY (Danka Business Systems--$4.68; +0.08; optionable): Office imaging equipment & services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/danky.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. After a large double bottom last year, DANKY has formed the current 4.5 month base showing solid 5 to 3 accumulation and excellent money flow. Over the past two weeks it rallied hard to form the right side of the base as volume shot higher. You want to see strong volume as a stock moves up to complete the base. The past three sessions DANKY has moved laterally to start forming the handle with volume backing off as it should. It may take a couple more sessions, but it showed a doji Monday, so we are ready for it.
Volume: 1.18M Avg Volume: 453.818K
BUY POINT: $4.95 Volume=1M Target=$6.25 Stop=$4.59
POSITION: - Stock

Play Date: 06/02/2003
STEL (Stellent--$5.65; +0.17; optionable): Internet software and services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/stel.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. STEL is moving through a 4.5 month base showing excellent 6 to 2 accumulation and money flow that is moving out ahead of the price as the stock starts higher. Unlike many internets Monday, STEL was rallying higher on strong volume, starting the breakout from its base. It pulled back off the high (5.79) to close, but the action looks very good. We want to see it clear this base and the January high as that puts it over all near term resistance.
Volume: 259.5K Avg Volume: 147.863K
BUY POINT: $5.85 Volume=222K Target=$8 Stop=$5.44
POSITION: URU HA - Aug. $5c (76 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 06/02/2003
XING (Qiao Zing Telephone--$5.32; +0.27; no options): Chinese residential telephones
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/x/xing.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. XING broke out of a 5.5 month base in early May and charged up to 5.50 on the run. The past three weeks it has made a slow, orderly pullback to the 10 day MVA (4.96) on lower and mostly below average volume. Monday it blasted higher (5.85 on the high) on strong volume. Though it gave back much of the move, that was more of a function of the market. Looking for it to resume the move from here. Accumulation in the base was outstanding at 6 to 1. Money flow is very strong and relative strength is breaking out.

CONTINUING PLAYS:
Play Date: 05/20/2003
ADVP (AdvancePCS--$32.97; -0.13; optionable): Specialized health services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/advp.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. Tried the next breakout Monday with a nice gap higher to 34.12. That was the extent of it, however, as ADVP then gave it all back as the market reversed. No volume to back the move as it remained well below average. It is still in the pattern and there was no high volume reversal as it pulled back. We will let it reload again, and on another move with volume we will look at some additional positions.
Volume: 972.833K Avg Volume: 1.533M
BUY POINT: New: $33.45 (orig. $32.85) Volume=2M Target=$39.22 Stop=$31.92
POSITION: QVD IF - Sept. $30c (66 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/ct/advp.html
Play Date: 05/31/2003
AMCC (Applied Micro Circuits--$5.21; +0.18; optionable): Semiconductor integrated circuits
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/amcc.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. AMCC shot higher in the breakout, hitting 5.70 on the high before falling back to close basically flat as volume remained solid. It was a victim of the market reversal that pushed it back. The reversal is not what we wanted, obviously, so we will see if it can hold at 50 on any test back. Still solid with 9 to 5 accumulation and strong money flow.
Volume: 9.652M Avg Volume: 3.088M
BUY POINT: $5.45 that holds to the close. Volume=4.5M Target=$7.15 Stop=$4.92
POSITION: AEX HA - Aug. $5c (56 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/ct/amcc.html
Play Date: 05/21/2003
APC (Anadarko Petroleum--$49.35; +0.07; optionable): Independent natural gas & oil
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/apc.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Still letting this one set up as we anticipate a good breakout from this natural gas producer. Monday APC traded on higher volume but ran in place. Good accumulation, and money flow is rising.
Volume: 2.548M Avg Volume: 2.039M
BUY POINT: $49.75 Volume=3M Target=$56.88 Stop=$47.96
POSITION: APC HW - Aug. $47.50c (66 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 05/24/2003
BGEN (Biogen--$42.65; +0.23; optionable): Biotechnology
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/bgen.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. BGEN is still testing the breakout from that reverse head and shoulders. Friday it tapped at the 10 day MVA and was moving up Monday on rising, above average volume, but it stalled out just below 44 (43.88 on the high) and fell back. 44 is proving to be some resistance, so that is the point we are now looking at to add some more positions. Good pattern and action and it looks like just a matter of time before it makes the move.
Volume: 5.299M Avg Volume: 3.838M
BUY POINT: New: 43.05 (orig. $42.35) Volume=4.5M Target=$49.55 Stop=$39.39
POSITION: BGQ JU - Oct. $37.50c (69 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/ct/bgen.html
Play Date: 05/31/2003
ICOS (Icos Corp.--$31.98; +0.33; optionable): Drug manufacturer
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/i/icos.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. Tried to make the move Monday, but as did many stocks, it faded and gave back most of the move. it managed to hold a slight gain and is still in the breakout test. Will let it reload and try the move again on some volume and holds toward the close.
Volume: 2.853M Avg Volume: 1.85M
BUY POINT: $32.05 Volume=2.8M Target=$38.38 Stop=$29.81
POSITION: IIQ JF - Oct. $30c (63 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 05/03/2003
NBIX (Neurocrine Biosciences--$51.87; +1.17; optionable): Biotechnology
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/n/nbix.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Nice volume the Monday move though NBIX gave back $1 off the high. Looking very good here.
Volume: 678.063K Avg Volume: 385.454K
BUY POINT: New: $52.06 (orig. $51.06; $48.20) Volume=600K Target=$54.25 Stop=$48.25

Play Date: 04/23/2003
NSCN (Netscreen Technologies--$22.81; +0.45; optionable): Security software
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/n/nscn.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. NSCN looks ready to make the move. Volume surged Monday as NSCN started higher. It gave back half the move, but it looks solid. Looks ready.
Volume: 3.048M Avg Volume: 1.74M
BUY POINT: New: $22.88 (orig. $21.17) Volume=2.5M Target=$25.42 Stop=$21.45
POSITION: QKN ID - Sept. $20c (63 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 05/19/2003
ONXX (Onyx Pharmaceuticals--$10.18; +0.08; optionable): Biotechnology
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/o/onxx.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. ONXX started up Monday from the breakout test, shooting up to 11 before it too reversed and gave back the gain. Volume was huge. It held the 10 day MVA on the close (10) and the stock looks very good with this hammer doji. Looking for another volume move to hold through the close.
Volume: 1.013M Avg Volume: 175.636K
BUY POINT: $10.55 Volume=300K Target=$12.25 Stop=$9.38
POSITION: OIQ HU - Aug. $7.50c (83 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 05/29/2003
SGMS (Scientific Games--$7.4; -0.31; optionable): Computer systems
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/sgms.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle breakout. SGMS has fallen back from the breakout attempt last Wednesday, but it is holding the pattern, holding at the 10 day MVA on lower, below average volume. Money flow is huge, accumulation is solid at 7 to 4. Needs to hold and then rally higher on strong volume, holding the move to the close.
Volume: 271.861K Avg Volume: 422.272K
BUY POINT: $8.08 Volume=571K Target=$9.95 Stop=$7.51
POSITION: TUJ JU - Oct. $7.50c (61 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 05/28/2003
SRNA (Serena Software--$20; +0.22; optionable): Business software
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/srna.html
STATUS: Reverse head & shoulders. Still in the pattern, again banging its head at 20, the top of the 6-month base. Accumulation is excellent at 7 to 2 and money flow continues to lead higher. Great pattern and action, but we need to be patient and let it make the strong volume breakout.
Volume: 866.455K Avg Volume: 461.818K
BUY POINT: $20.35 Volume=700K Target=$24.45 Stop=$18.78
POSITION: NHU HD - Aug. $20c (52 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 04/28/2003
STK (Storage Technology--$26.69; -0.31; optionable): Data storage devices
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/stk.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. STK was moving up on some good volume, breaking to 27.41 on the high. It gave it all back and more, however. Not the action we were looking for and it may try to test the 10 day MVA at 26 before rebounding.
Volume: 961.9K Avg Volume: 679.636K
BUY POINT: $27.35 Volume=1M Target=$32 Stop=$25.24
POSITION: STK IX - Sept. $22.50c (64 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 05/24/2003
WSTC (West Corp.--$25.49; +0.59; optionable): Business management services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/w/wstc.html
STATUS: Testing the 18 day MVA. Not bad action Monday, rising off the 10 day MVA (24.80) though volume was lower and back below average. It hit 26 on the high but did not have the volume to hold the move. Continued strong money flow and accumulation, and just need to see it hold to the close on some stronger volume.
Volume: 188.206K Avg Volume: 215.59K
BUY POINT: New: $25.55 (orig. $25.20) Volume=215K Target=$28 Stop=$23.97

Downside:
Play Date: 05/24/2003
BRL (Barr Labs--$53.3; +0.55; optionable): Generic drugs
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/brl.html
STATUS: Put. Still in the descending triangle, bouncing higher to test the 18 day MVA on the high (53.50) on continued below average volume. Just being patient to let it break below the 52 level that marks the bottom of the pattern.
Volume: 716.4K Avg Volume: 955.59K
BUY POINT: $51.94 Volume=1.4M Target=$48.06 Stop=$52.95

WTW (Weight Watchers--$42.55; -0.03; optionable): Weight loss services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/w/wtw.html
STATUS: Put. WTW made the test of 43, rallying to the 50 day MVA at 44 and then reversing on some rising, above average volume. Looks ready for a further drop.
Volume: 650.8K Avg Volume: 536.863K
