Upside:

Play Date: 08/19/2003
MYL (Mylan Labs--$35.86; +0.93; optionable): Generic drugs
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/myl.html
STATUS: Reverse head and shoulders. MYL is ready to breakout from a 10 week base showing solid 3 to 1 accumulation (3 up price weeks on rising volume to 1 down price week on rising volume) and strong money flow. We have been watching MYL form this pattern, and Tuesday it was moving toward the breakout on a very strong shot of above average volume. Relative strength is ready to make the breakout, a very good indication of support for the move.
Volume: 1.952M Avg Volume: 1.391M
BUY POINT: $36.06 Volume=1.5M Target=$43 Stop=$34.12
POSITION: MYL AG - Jan $35c (61 delta) &/or Stock

PLXS (Plexus--$15.7; +1.2; optionable): Contract manufacturer, printed circuit boards
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/plxs.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle breakout. PLXS is making the breakout from a 9 month base showing solid 9 to 5 accumulation. Tuesday PLXS made a breakout move on a very strong volume surge as others in its sector said things were looking better. One of the better patterns in the group and somewhat overlooked. Looking at positions on a further move over the November 2002 high.

SNWL (Sonicwall--$5.59; +0.4; optionable): Internet software & services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/snwl.html
STATUS: Flat base. SNWL is moving up off the 50 day MVA (5.04) on strong volume Tuesday, moving toward the breakout from a 10 week flat base. Accumulation in the base is a solid 3 to 1. Money flow and relative strength match the pattern, strong and moving higher. Just going to let it make the breakout and move in.

POOL (SCP Pool--$40.66; +1.66; optionable): Basic materials. Splits 3:2 on 9-13-03
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/pool.html
STATUS: Breakout. POOL is continuing its strong run up the 10 day MVA (38.92), blasting higher off of that level Tuesday on strong volume as the housing starts numbers came in better than expected. This is a sheer momentum play as the stock continues its run. We get in on a further move and let it run as long as it will.
Volume: 354.945K Avg Volume: 172.5K
BUY POINT: $40.78 Volume=259K Target=$46.85 Stop=$38.15

Play Date: 08/18/2003
RARE (Rare Hospitality--$36.7; +1.2; optionable): Restaurants. Splits 3:2 on 9-3-03
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/r/rare.html
STATUS: Breakout. After a quick 50 day MVA test (33.59) two weeks back, RARE resumed its otherwise nice flat 6 week consolidation. It looks as if the 50 day MVA test shook out the last sellers as RARE returned to support at 35, moved laterally, and then broke higher Tuesday on rising, average volume. Excellent money flow and a relative strength breakout show the move is solid. Accumulation in the short lateral base is a solid 3 to 1. Looking for positions on a further move on even better volume.
Volume: 277.776K Avg Volume: 265.136K

HBIO (Harvard Bioscience--$5.02; -0.08; no options): Scientific & technical instruments
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/h/hbio.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. HBIO continues a great test of the break out of a 2.5 month ascending triangle a week back. Accumulation in the base was excellent, showing a solid 4 to 0 ratio (4 up price weeks on rising volume to 0 down price weeks on rising volume). Very low volume on the test, holding over the 10 day MVA (4.92) with a nice hammer doji. Ready for a break higher on strong volume to show the test successful.
Volume: 28.305K Avg Volume: 102.954K
BUY POINT: $5.10 (orig. 5.22) Volume=153K Target=$6.54 Stop=$4.74

http://biz.yahoo.com/p/z/zmh.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Still forming the handle, tapping still at the 18 day MVA (48.39) on low, below average volume. Looked ready Monday as ZMH was up on stronger volume. This was a leader through 2002 and is now consolidating that move with this base. Looks very solid with strong 7 to 3 accumulation. Excellent money flow supporting the move. Being patient and waiting for the move higher.

New Pre-Announcement Plays:

Play Date: 08/19/2003
ORLY (Oreilly Automotive--$37.21; +0.52; optionable): Retail auto parts stores. Forecast to announce a split on 10-21-03 in conjunction with earnings or on 11-6-03 in conjunction with a board meeting. The company has not confirmed these dates but based upon our research these are the dates for the events. BACKGROUND: Last announced a 2 for 1 split on 11-8-99 at a stock price of $45.
The annual shareholder meeting was on 5-6-03 at which time no additional shares were authorized. The company has sufficient shares for a 3 for 2 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/o/orly.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. ORLY is working through a 20 month base and is close to breaking out over the pre-correction high at 38. It tried the move in late July but failed, coming back to test the 50 day MVA (34.79). It has bounced from there and Monday was starting higher on a massive volume spike. Money flow is solid as is relative strength. We want to see ORLY clear the recent high on strong volume to start positions. Retail is doing well and ORLY looks ready to join with its strong volume spikes.
Volume: 565.375K Avg Volume: 258.772K
BUY POINT: $38.35 Volume=350K Target=$46.05 Stop=$35.88
POSITION: OQR KG - Nov. $35c (73 delta) &/or Stock

Continuing Pre-Announcement Plays:

Play Date: 08/16/2003
BBBY (Bed, Bath & Beyond--$41.11; -0.29; optionable): Home furnishings. Forecast to announce a split on 9-24-03 in conjunction with earnings. The company has not confirmed this date, but based upon our research this is the date for the announcement.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 2 for 1 split on 7-13-00 in conjunction with a board meeting. The stock price was $39. The annual shareholder meeting was on 6-26-03 at which time no additional shares were authorized. The company has sufficient shares for a 2 for 1 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/bbby.html
STATUS: Cup. Still working on its 2.5 month cup base, rallying Monday on continued below average volume, and then stalling out Tuesday on rising though still below average volume. Accumulation at this juncture in the base is 2 to 2, a ratio that will improve as the stock moves up toward 44 to complete the cup. From there it will most likely form a handle and then make the break higher. With this move Tuesday it may be ready to try to form a handle here. Want to see it break through the buy point on strong volume.
Volume: 2.457M Avg Volume: 3.424M
BUY POINT: $41.88 Volume=5.2M Target=$48 Stop=$39.28
POSITION: BHQ KH - Nov. $40c (58 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/bbby.html

Play Date: 08/16/2003
CLE (Claires Stores--$31.44; -0.13; optionable): Apparel stores. Forecast to announce a split on 8-21-03 before the market opens in conjunction with earnings.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 3 for 2 split on 8-14-96 at a stock price of $30. The annual shareholder meeting was on 6-24-03 at which time no additional shares were authorized. The company has sufficient shares for a 2 for 1 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/cle.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. We are looking for CLE to form a handle at this level in its 9 week base. Monday CLE was breaking higher but volume was still well below average. Monday it was stalling again just below 32 on lower volume. We want it to fall back toward 30 on continued low volume and then break higher. Accumulation is positive at 2 up weeks on rising volume to 1 in the short base. Need to see that handle form and then make the breakout.
Volume: 298.1K Avg Volume: 583K
BUY POINT: New: After a handle formation, a break over 31.82 (orig. $31.32) Volume=884K Target=$37.62 Stop=$29.45
POSITION: CLE KF - Nov. $30c (62 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/cle.html

Play Date: 08/14/2003
COLM (Columbia Sportswear--$52.51; -0.44; optionable): Sportswear. Forecast to announce a split on 10-23-03 after the market closes
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 3 for 2 split on 5-2-01 at stock price of $21.84. The annual shareholder meeting was on 5-15-03 at which time no additional shares were authorized. The company has sufficient shares for a 2 for 1 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/colm.html
STATUS: Flat base. Continues to work through the 2.5 month flat base over 52, moving laterally on very low, below average volume. This base shows positive 2 to 1 accumulation and follows the breakout from a 5 month cup with handle base in May. A leading apparel retailer, we like the lateral base after the cup with handle breakout earlier.

Play Date: 07/31/2003
CPWM (Cost Plus World Market--$39.23; +0.24; optionable): Discount variety stores. Forecast to announce a split on 8-21-03 before the market opens in conjunction with earnings.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 3 for 2 split on 9-20-99 at a stock price of $47.The annual shareholder meeting was on 6-19-03 at which time no additional shares were authorized. The company has sufficient shares for a 2 for 1 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/cpwm.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. Broke out of a 7 month cup with handle base in June and has tested the breakout, holding 34 and then bouncing. Monday CPWM posted a nice, high volume gain as retail news was solid. Tuesday it took a below average volume breather. Again we prefer to see it break the resistance level to take positions, but on another strong volume move over 39.55 we can start positions.

http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/dg.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Making the nice breakout from the handle Tuesday on a strong volume surge, DG moved out of its13 month base. Accumulation in the base is a solid 16 to 9. Money flow is excellent as is relative strength. It is still a buy at this point.

NDN (99 Cents Only Stores--$35.07; +1.04; optionable): Discount variety retail. No split announced with the 8/13 board meeting so looking to 10-7-03 in conjunction with earnings.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 4 for 3 stock split on 3-12-02 at a stock price of $34.76. The annual shareholder meeting was on 6-13-03 at which time no additional shares were authorized. The company has sufficient shares for a 2 for 1 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/n/ndn.html
STATUS: Flat base. NDN formed the current 10 week flat base following the breakout 13 month double bottom base. This is a good consolidation of the breakout run. Tuesday NDN was moving off the 50 day MVA (33.45) on rising though still below average volume. Money flow is turning up and relative strength is readying for a breakout. We want to see strong volume on that move.

http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/pixr.html
STATUS: Flat base. PIXR broke from a cup base in early July and has now formed the current 6 week base as it consolidates that move. It made a quick run down to the 50 day MVA but is now back, trying to prepare for the breakout. Strong money flow and relative strength,, the accumulation in the short base is 2 to 0. Looking for a breakout over the July and early August highs to take new positions as we move into a winner as we look for the next potential split date.

BSX (Boston Scientific--$64.95; +0.78; optionable): Medical instruments. Splits 2:1 but has not yet set a date.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/bsx.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. A nice comeback, BSX tested below 62.50 and then rallied, gapping higher Tuesday. Volume has remained below average, and the gapping higher has made getting into a positions difficult. Tuesday it showed a doji at the old resistance at 65. We are looking for a test back to the 10 day MVA (63.59) and then a break over 65 on much better trade.
Volume: 2.006M Avg Volume: 3.691M
BUY POINT: New: $66.06 (orig. $64.81) Volume=5M Target=$74.55 Stop=$60.55

COH (Coach--$54.78; -0.02; optionable): High end handbags, etc. Splits 2:1 on 10-2-03.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/coh.html
STATUS: Pre-split 50 day MVA test. COH is massing just below 55, moving laterally on below average volume as the 10 day MVA (54.07) squeezes it from below. We like the nice tight range and lateral move and anticipate a strong breakout from this leading retailer.
