THE PLAYS
Good movers Monday: DKS; EBAY; PARS; SIRI; SOFO; TRA; TSCO; WINS; WMGI
Weekend play results:
IDT: Still a nice low volume pullback
TRA: Nice break higher on volume!
ESV: Doji . Looks ready to test higher to the 200 day MVA again.
VSV: Thumped back to the 18 day MVA.
New Plays for Tuesday:
Upside:
Play Date: 10/20/2003
AVAN (Avant Immunotherapeutics--$2.89; -0.06; no options): Diagnostic substances
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/avan.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Working on the handle of a 4.5 month base showing solid 4 to 2 accumulation (4 up price weeks on rising volume to 2 down price weeks on rising volume). That accumulation shows more buyers than sellers in the base and sets a good foundation for a breakout and run. Solid money flow and very good price/volume action. Making a nice test back to the 18 day MVA (2.79) on the intraday lows as voluje dries up. Looks to be near the breakout point.
Volume: 352.33K Avg Volume: 480.545K
BUY POINT: $3.22 Volume=721K Target=$4 Stop=$2.98
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

NVLS (Novellus Systems--$38.28; +0.73; optionable): Chip equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/n/nvls.html
STATUS: Testing the 50 day MVA (36.90). NVLS is moving through a 4 month trading range between 33 and 40. It came up off the lows to start the month and again made it to 40 intraday. This pullback, however, it looks to be making a higher low over the 50 day. In these ranges, making a higher low at a key support level is often a prelude to a breakout from the range. With solid 7 to 3 accumulation in the base and the news from TXN, the odds of a breakout improved greatly. Looking for a strong, above average volume break higher from here.
Volume: 5.522M Avg Volume: 7.647M
BUY POINT: $39.28 Volume=9.5M Target=$46 Stop=$36.95
POSITION: NLQ AU - Jan. $37.50c (59 delta) &/or Stock

Continuing that look solid: FL; GIGM; GNSC; IDT; SWIR; WINS; YHOO
Play Date: 09/22/2003
YHOO (Yahoo!--$42.37; +0.13; optionable): Internet information
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/y/yhoo.html
STATUS: Flying plateau. After gapping higher two weeks back on good earnings news YHOO has held up very well, moving laterally over the 10 day MVA (41.43) on lower, mostly below average volume. Really like the way it has held its gains as the market has gone through its gyrations. Looking for it to continue the move from this pattern on a break higher on stronger, above average volume.
Volume: 8.561M Avg Volume: 12.502M
BUY POINT: New: $43.02 (orig. $37.95) Volume=15M Target=$50 (orig. positions: $45.25) Stop=$41.04
POSITION: YHQ AH - Jan. $40c (52 delta) &/or Stock
