THE PLAYS

Good movers Wednesday: LCCI; RIC; SIRI

Tuesday night play results:
RIC: Excellent breakout.
DJX: Looked better than it was as it rolled over on rising volume.
IDT: Could not continue the move. Not bad, just taking a breather over the 10 day MVA in a very weak market.

New Plays for Wednesday:

Upside:

Play Date: 10/22/2003
GEMS (Glenayre Technologies--$2.61; -0.03; no options): Telecom processing systems
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/g/gems.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. GEMS is working laterally up the 18 day MVA (2.50) as it consolidates the breakout from a long 20 month base. After a big breakout in early October it is catching its break with this small 3 week ascending triangle. Accumulation in the big base was an excellent 23 up weeks on rising volume to 8 down weeks on rising volume. Super money flow and a relative strength breakout even before the stock moves higher. Very strong and looking for that strong volume breakout.
Volume: 199.44K Avg Volume: 324.59K
BUY POINT: $2.77 Volume=487K Target=$3.62 Stop=$2.55
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Downside:

Play Date: 10/22/2003
TLGD (Tollgrade Communication--$15.17; -0.46; optionable): Telecom processing systems
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/t/tlgd.html
STATUS: Put. TLGD tanked last Thursday to the 200 day MVA (15.46) and has moved laterally the last four sessions, trying to turn back up. Wednesday it fell back below the 200 day after another week of distribution. Poor money flow and under distribution. Looking for it to fail here after a double top in September and October, the October peak being on below average volume, a classic sign of weakness.
Volume: 70.276K Avg Volume: 98.59K
BUY POINT: $14.98 Volume=200K Target=$13 Stop=$15.82
POSITION: THF NC - Feb. $15p (-42 delta)

Continuing that look solid: CHS; ESV; GIGM; IDT; GNSC; YHOO

AVID, DIS, GTRC, KKD, LPNT, OCR, TGT, UTSI

Play Date: 09/23/2003
UTSI (Utstarcom--$34.8; +0.8; optionable): Wireless telecom
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/u/utsi.html
STATUS: Put. UTSI is still trending down the short term MVA, tapping at the 18 day MVA (35.24) Wednesday and then falling back. It posted a gain as it has rallied back after selling down to 32.50 to start the week. if the downtrend that started in August is going to hold it will fail here. Need to see above average volume on the selling.
Volume: 3.845M Avg Volume: 4.006M
BUY POINT: New: $34.68 (orig. $34.88) Volume=5M Target=$31.78 Stop=$35.85
