THE PLAYS

Good movers Friday: AVO; NOOF

Thursday night play results:
AVO: Good volume surge though closed well off of its intraday high.
WHT: Gapped higher on average trage.
NXG: Gapped up but sold back most of the gain. Still in good shape to move further.

New Plays for Monday:

Upside:

Play Date: 11/01/2003
AMKR (Amkor Technology--$18.85; -0.46; optionable): Semiconductor integrated circuits
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/amkr.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. AMKR broke out of a 15 week rolling range Tuesday, blasting up from a higher low in the range. AMKR had been bouncing between 14 and 18, but last week made a higher low near the 50 day MVA (16.70). From there is launched a high volume breakout. The stock was under heavy accumulation in the range with an 8 to 2 showing (8 up price weeks on rising volume to 2 down price weeks on rising volume). Solid accumulation that set up the breakout. When it made the move relative strenght broke out as well. It started testing back to end the week, giving up a bit of ground on lower, below average volume. We are looking for AMKFR to come back to test the breakout more to start the week, heading back toward the September high (18.50) or the 10 day MVA (17.90). Either way we will look for the bounce back up from there on rising, above average volume.
Volume: 1.229M Avg Volume: 1.394M
BUY POINT: Test 18.50 down to 17.90, then back up through $18.68 Volume=2.1M Target=$22.44 Stop=$17.37
POSITION: QEL CW - Mar. $17.50c (66 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cd/amkr.html

Play Date: 11/01/2003
MTMD (Microteck Medical--$3.92; -0.03; no options): Medical appliances
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/mtmd.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. MTMD shot up Tuesday on a huge volume move. That completed the 9 week cup. The rest of the week it moved laterally and slightly lower on much lower volume, action that is forming the handle to the base. This is where the buyers that moved in at the old high get frustrated as the stock approaches that old high and then backs off. Fearing a collapse back down they sell. Once they are gone the decks are cleared for the stock to move higher. Accumulation in the base is an excellent 4 to 1. It looks as if it may take MTMD another few sessions to complete forming the handle and then it will be ready for the breakout.
Volume: 220.432K Avg Volume: 205.545K
BUY POINT: $4.12 Volume=300K Target=$5.15 Stop=$3.78
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Downside:

Play Date: 11/01/2003
AAI (Airtran Holdings--$16.21; -1; optionable): Regional airlines
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/aai.html
STATUS: Head and shoulders. A sector that is making money but has come under heavy selling pressure. AAI formed the left shoulder in September, rallied over 20 in early October to form the head, and is now rolling over and falling through the 50 day MVA (16.45) on high volume to form the right shoulder. Money flow is tanking and AAI is under heavy distribution. Looking for a further drop on volume to enter the play for a run to 14 as the initial target, but we are looking at 13 as well.
Volume: 2.561M Avg Volume: 1.827M
BUY POINT: $16.04 Volume=250K Target=$14 Stop=$16.62
POSITION: AAI XW - Jan. $17.50p (-66 delta)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cd/aai.html

Continuing that look solid: PDYN

Play Date: 11/01/2003
JNPR (Juniper Networks--$18; +0.14; optionable): PC networking
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/j/jnpr.html
STATUS: Ascending triangle. A continuing play that has formed a nice 10 week triangle, using the 50 day MVA (16.55) on the lows as the support level as it builds pressure below the constant top at 18. Accumulation in the base is an outstanding 4 to 0. JNPR was testing the breakout point to end the week, holding a slight gain Friday on volume that moved up above average. It may come back to make a higher low near the 18 day MVA (17.24) early in the week before making the breakout move.
Volume: 12.078M Avg Volume: 10.13M
BUY POINT: $18.38 Volume=15M Target=$22 Stop=$17.22
POSITION: JUX AW - Jan. $17.50c (60 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cd/jnpr.html

Play Date: 11/01/2003
NOOF (New Frontier Media--$4.91; +0.14; no options): Movie productions, theaters
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/n/noof.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. NOOF has formed a handle to its 7 week base, moving laterally last week, holding over the 10 day MVA (4.56) on the lows on primarily below average volume. Friday that volume jumped up well above average as NOOF held the 10 day and bounced. Looks ready to make the next move. Solid money flow and relative strength. Excellent 4 to 0 accumulation in the base.
Volume: 352.412K Avg Volume: 212.5K
BUY POINT: $5.14 Volume=319K Target=$6.21 Stop=$4.54
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

SUBSCRIBER WATCHLIST

We continually receive ideas for potential plays from our subscribers. Many times they are already on our watchlists, other times not. We always take a look at them and sometimes find a few pearls. This weekend we are starting a new feature where we include some subscriber choices that could develop into plays. We are not necessarily endorsing these, but want to provide a forum for subscribers with ideas that may appeal to their portfolio. Typically we will put these on without commentary, but if we see something we really like or dislike we will point it out. That way we can maybe come up with some new plays, find some plays that may fit your style, and have another great educational tool to discuss problems or good aspects about stocks our subscribers are looking at.

ATVI: Broke out Thursday and gapped up big on Friday only to give most of the move back. Strong breakout.

PLCM: A steady uptrend that has now reached some resistance at 20 from April and May 2002.
