THE PLAYS

Good movers Monday: CYTC; ONNN; PRGO; SFE; WWCA

Weekend play results:
CATS: Could not continue the strong Friday move.
GILTF: Cratered below the 18 day MVA.
SFE: Great surge on very strong volume.
FRED: Tested the 18 day MVA once more on very low volume.

New plays for Tuesday:

Upside:

Play Date: 02/09/2004
EPIX (Epix Medical--$20.95; +2.01; no options): Diagnostic substances
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/e/epix.html
STATUS: Flat base. EPIX has been moving between 16 and 20 for 7 months. Monday it made the break over 20 on a strong volume surge, moving it out of the pattern. Outstanding 10 to 3 accumulation in the base (10 up price weeks on rising volume to 3 down price weeks on rising volume), showing that money has been moving into the stock even as it moved laterally. Money flow is surging and relative strength is ready to breakout with the stock price. After such a strong move it may test back toward the breakout point near 20.25. If it makes that test and holds we w ill move in on the bounce. We will also look at taking a partial position on a further move from here if the volume remains, then pick up more positions on the test.
Volume: 611.577K Avg Volume: 177.681K
BUY POINT: $20.35 Volume=300K Target=$24.22 Stop=$20.22
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Play Date: 02/09/2004
SFNT (Safenet--$39.99; +1.80; optionable): Securing software
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/sfnt.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. SFNT is in the handle, the shakeout of the last sellers in a lower and lateral move after the stock neared the pre-correction high. The past two session volume has jumped as the stock moved off the 18 day MVA (37.09). Accumulation is strong at 4 to 1, setting the foundation for the breakout. Looking for a continued move from here on continued strong volume.
Volume: 534.476K Avg Volume: 247.636K
BUY POINT: $40.62 Volume=450K Target=$46.95 Stop=$37.78
POSITION: UUI FH - June $40c (57 delta) &/or Stock

Downside:

Play Date: 02/09/2004
TMWD (Tumbleweed Communication--$6.73; +0.33; optionable): Internet software
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/t/tmwd.html
STATUS: Put. TMWD made us money to the upside in 2003, and after double topping in December and early January, it broke the 50 day MVA (7.26) later in January, and after an attempt to retake that level, it failed and dropped to 6. It has made a lower volume bounce the past two sessions, rising toward the 10 day MVA (6.82). We are looking for a test of the 10 day MVA and then pick it up on the turn back down.
Volume: 425.817K Avg Volume: 502.045K
BUY POINT: Test 6.82ish, then $6.78 on the way back down. Volume=600K Target=$5 Stop=$7.02
POSITION: MYQ RE - June $7.50p (-58 delta)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cd/tmwd.html

AVID: Still making its upside, low volume test of the 200 day MVA breach. Setting up very nicely.

AVID, COH, DIS, GTRC, KKD, LPNT, OCR, TGT, UTSI, XMSR

Play Date: 02/09/2004
XMSR (XM Satellite Radio--$23.3; +0.44; optionable): Satellite radio
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/x/xmsr.html
STATUS: Put. Broke the 50 day MVA (23.89) in late January, and is making its second attempt at retaking that level. The last attempt has been on even lower volume than the first; does not look too promising. Indeed, Monday it gapped up to the 10 day MVA (23.25) and stalled, showing a tight doji on low, below average volume. This candlestick pattern below such important resistance indicates the attempt is failing. Looking for a turn back down on some stronger volume.
Volume: 5.208M Avg Volume: 6.614M
BUY POINT: $23.08 Volume=8M Target=$20 Stop=$23.96
POSITION: QSY PX - Apr. $25p (-57 delta)

SUBSCRIBER WATCHLIST

We continually receive ideas for potential plays from subscribers. Many times they are already on our watchlists, other times not. We always take a look and sometimes find a gem or two, or more. We don't necessarily endorse these, but want to provide a forum for subscribers with ideas that may appeal to other subscribers. We may just put on the ticker or we might describe our thoughts as to why or why not we think it is a buy or sell. This is a way we can all learn a bit more and maybe find a few more candidates to make us some good money.

DCGN: Gapped out of a flying plateau consolidating an 8 week cup base.

TRDO: Low volume test of the 50 day MVA breakdown.

SUPG: Low volume test of the 50 day MVA breakdown.
