JADE (LJ Intl.--$5.05; +0.05; no options): Recreational goods
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/j/jade.html
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle. JADE is still working on the handle to its 7.5 month base. Money flow continues to move higher as JADE works lower and laterally in the handle. Accumulation is excellent along with the money flow. Just being patient and waiting for the high volume breakout.

Play Date: 01/13/2004
SNUS (Sonus Pharmaceutical--$7.4; +0.04; no options): Diagnostic drug substances
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/snus.html
STATUS: Breakout test. SNUS surged out of a 2.5 month cup with handle in late January and rallied to 8. It has pulled back to test the move the past three weeks, holding the 18 day MVA (7.22). Volume faded on the pullback, but then started to pick up the past two sessions, coming in above average. Money flow continues to move up ahead of the price as it tests, and we anticipate SNUS is going to follow it higher soon.

Play Date: 02/10/2004
SPAB (Spacehab--$3.2; -0.04; no options): Space habitats
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/spab.html
STATUS: Flying plateau. Still working laterally in its breakout test, holding over the 18 day MVA (3.08) on mostly below average volume. Volume spiked Thursday as SPAB gapped lower but then rebounded sharply. Money flow is strong and relative strength broke out on the move as well, helping verify the price breakout. The volume surge put us on alert that it may try its next move in the breakout soon.

PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS

Current Pre-Announcement Plays: In each report we look at the candidates that are in the best patterns ahead of their potential announcements. This focus on leaders in good patterns allows us to make good money even if companies do not announce the split, something that they are still gun-shy of as the market and economy recovers.

Continuing Pre-Announcement Plays:

Play Date: 12/17/2003
BCR (C.R. Bard--$94.31; +0.77; optionable): Medical instruments and supplies. No split announced with earnings on 1-28-04 but continues to rally and we continue to position ourselves to take advantage of the moves.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 2 for 1 split around 1-22-00 at a stock price of $48. The annual shareholder meeting was on 4-16-03 at which time no additional shares were authorized. The company has sufficient shares for a 2 for 1 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/bcr.html
STATUS: Testing 10 day MVA. Volume came into the stock Thursday, rising back above average as it moved off the 10 day MVA (92.81). Nice move and still looking for more on this move. The next buy point for a few more or completely new positions is over the recent highs at 95.50.

BUY POINT: New: $95.55 (orig. $80.93) Volume=500K Target=New positions: $100 (orig. $92.95) Stop=$91.92

DNA (Genentech--$97.61; -0.34; optionable): Biotechnology. Looking for the next potential date as did not announce on 1-14.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a split on 10-5-00 in conjunction with a board meeting. The stock price was $172. Things were a bit wilder then, and now near $100 DNA is ready for another split. The annual shareholder meeting was on 4-23-03 at which time no additional shares were authorized. The company has sufficient shares for a 2 for 1 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/dna.html
STATUS: Testing the breakout. Trying to make the next break higher from its 3 week lateral move over the 18 day MVA (95.89). Volume shot higher the past two sessions as the stock tries to follow its surging money flow higher. A wild session. Still looking for the break higher, but want the move to hold toward the close to enter.
Volume: 2.981M Avg Volume: 2.054M
BUY POINT: New: $98.25 (orig. $95.44) Volume=3M Target=$102 Stop=$93.88

Play Date: 12/30/2003
LXK (Lexmark Intl.--$84.70; -0.31; optionable): Printers. No split announced in January. Researching next date, but setting up nicely.
BACKGROUND: Last announce a 2 for 1 split on 4-29-99 at a stock price of $110. The annual shareholder meeting was on 4-30-03 at which time no additional shares were authorized. The company has sufficient shares for a 2 for 1 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/l/lxk.html
STATUS: Flying plateau. LXK is still moving laterally, working in a narrow range over the 10 day MVA (84.34) on mostly below average volume. This move follows a strong surge in late January on earnings, and as the market has sold, LXK has held up well, refusing to give up any of its gains. Looking for the next break higher.
Volume: 871.8K Avg Volume: 979.863K

Play Date: 01/27/2004
TOL (Toll Brothers--$41.10; +0.40; optionable): Home builder. Forecast to announce a split on 2-24-04 in conjunction with earnings or on 3-2-04 in conjunction with a board meeting. The company has not confirmed theses dates, but based upon our research these are the dates for the events.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 2 for 1 split on 3-4-02 at a stock price of $25.60. The annual shareholder meeting was on 3-20-03 at which time no additional shares were authorized. The company has sufficient shares for a 2 for 1 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/t/tol.html
STATUS: Flat. TOL is one of the remaining homebuilders yet to announce a split in this go round. It has recovered well after falling below the 50 day MVA (39.42) to end January. It regained that level and posted a solid volume move Wednesday after testing that level on the low. Looking for a strong breakout over the recent highs to enter positions as the homebuilders recovery.

BUY POINT: $42.62 Volume=1.2M Target=$51 Stop=$40.42
POSITION: TOL FH - June $40c (60 delta) &/or Stock

PRE-SPLITS

Play Date: 02/10/2004
FIC (Fair Isaac & Co.--$61.68; -0.32; optionable): Splits 3:2 on March 11
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/f/fic.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Still working laterally in the handle of its 13 week cup with handle base sporting strong 5 to 2 accumulation (5 up price weeks on rising volume to 2 down price weeks on rising volume). We expected this move to continue, and it is doing so on lower volume just as it should. That accumulation shows us that money ahs been moving into the stock during the base, not leaving it. A big winner in 2003, it needed a breather, and this base has given it just that.
Volume: 224.8K Avg Volume: 673.863K
BUY POINT: $62.22 Volume=1M Target=$71.55 Stop=$59.88

http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/mscc.html
STATUS: Testing the 18 day MVA. Strong surge Wednesday on volume, and it took a low volume breather Thursday. Excellent move, and after this pause we are looking for it to continue. Excellent money flow is leading the stock higher. We are looking for the next volume surge as a new entry point.
Volume: 440.553K Avg Volume: 410.045K
BUY POINT: New: $31.65 (orig. $30.95) Volume=700K Target=$35.68 Stop=$29.38

POST-SPLIT

Play Date: 01/24/2004
TSCO (Tractor Supply--$43; -0.73; optionable): Farm and ranch supplies
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/t/tsco.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Nice volume move Wednesday but then took a breather Thursday on very low volume. Excellent pattern has formed up, and another high volume move higher will give us the buy point. It knocked the cover off earnings in January, and we are looking for a new chance to get in on this stock.
Volume: 247.85K Avg Volume: 444.045K
BUY POINT: New: $44.55 (orig. $45.22)Volume=719K Target=$55 Stop=$42.05
