ABGX (Abgenix--$15.62; +0.64; optionable): Biotechnology

STATUS: Cup w/handle. ABGX is starting up off the 50 day MVA (14.63) on a strong volume surge, trying to start the breakout from its 6 month base. It formed using the 200 day MVA (12.88) as the bottom of the base and then using the 50 day MVA (14.63) as the support for the handle. These are important levels and show solid support for the stock. Accumulation is a solid 5 to 3, another indication of support and money moving into the stock over the course of the base. Money flow is shooting higher ahead of the stock, and we are looking for ABGX to follow it higher and make the breakout.

PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS
Continuing Pre-Announcement Plays:

VAR (Varian Medical Systems--$86.19; +1.59; optionable): Medical Equipment. Will be holding a special shareholder meeting to increase shares the time of which has yet to be announced.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 2 for1 split on 11-19-01 at a stock price of $70.20.

STATUS: Flying plateau. VAR is starting the move out of the 5 week lateral move over the 18 day MVA (83.20). This is consolidating a nice run from 70 to 85 in January. Money flow is moving higher, relative strength is ready to breakout. Now all we need is volume to move back above average to take new positions.
