Begin part 3 of 3

THE PLAYS

In each report we prepare full write-ups for those plays that look ready to move. Those that have made the move or are still setting up are discussed in the continuing play table. The purpose is to focus on those stocks that are set to move.

NEW PLAYS: This section includes plays from all sections other than pre-announcements. Those are contained in the pre-announcement section.

New Pre-Splits:

Play Date: 03/25/2004
DKS (Dicks Sporting Goods--$56.58; +2.08; optionable): Sporting goods. Splits 2:1 on 4-6-04.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/dks.html
STATUS: 50 day MVA test. DKS has come back to test the 50 day MVA (54.62), a point that is also just over the early December high. It caught its feet Thursday and jumped higher on strong trade. A strong stock that is still growing earnings. We are looking to pick it up on a continued volume bounce. A very good place to enter a pre-split for its run.
Volume: 1.03M Avg Volume: 285.954K
BUY POINT: $56.88 Volume=450K Target=$65.55 Stop=$54.44
POSITION: DKS FL - June $55c (62 delta) &/or Stock

New Post-Splits:

Play Date: 03/25/2004
TASR (Taser--$64.27; +2.47; optionable): Stun guns
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/t/tasr.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. TASR has formed a short 5 week pattern to consolidate its strong October to February run. This is just what it needed after its split in mid-February. It has moved back up toward that February high, on the verge of the next breakout. Solid 3 to 0 accumulation in the pattern with surging money flow and relative strength ready to breakout once more. Looks ready to follow money flow higher but may take another day or two to complete the base.
Volume: 3.405M Avg Volume: 4.505M
BUY POINT: $64.86 Volume=6.8M Target=$75 Stop=$60.02
POSITION: QUR FM - June $65c (55 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 03/25/2004
VAPH (Vaso Activ Pharma--$8.05; +1.76; no options): Drugs.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/v/vaph.html
STATUS: Test 50 day MVA. VAPH made us some money on its pre-split run, and now that it has corrected back it looks ready to make another rally. Thursday it rallied off the 50 day (6.80) on rising, above average volume. Money flow is leading higher, moving up even before the stock started to move. Ready to jump on the stock as it moves through the buy point on continued strong volume.
Volume: 1.009M Avg Volume: 1.168M
BUY POINT: $8.32 Volume=1.8M Target=$12 Stop=$7.74

Continuing Leader Plays:

Play Date: 03/20/2004
UHCO (Universal American Finl.--$11.73; +0.17; no options): Life insurance
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/u/uhco.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Still holding the 18 day MVA (11.48) on below average volume as UHCO holds fast in testing the breakout from its 16 week cup base. Accumulation in the base is very strong at 5 to 1, setting the foundation for the breakout. Money flow is solid and ahead of the price. It was not moving in the Thursday rally, but when the rest of the market takes a breather we expect to see UHCO moving again.
Volume: 157.858K Avg Volume: 199K
BUY POINT: $12.25 Volume=315K Target=$14.72 Stop=$11.39
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS

Current Pre-Announcement Plays: In each report we look at the candidates that are in the best patterns ahead of their potential announcements. This focus on leaders in good patterns allows us to make good money even if companies do not announce the split, something that they are still gun-shy of as the market and economy recovers.

AGN: Forecast 4-26-04.

APOL: Forecast 3-24-04. No split announced but it just keeps on moving higher, so we are letting it run and leaving our profits on the table.

APPB: Forecast 4-28-04.

BCR: Researching next date.

BMET: 3-17-04. No split announced. Still struggling at the 50 day MVA.

CAKE: 4-19-04. Trying to put it back together.

CDWC: Researching the next date. Massive volume spike as it ran in place.

CHS: Researching next date.

DGX: Researching exact date. Moving laterally over the 50 day MVA.

ELAB: Researching next date. Nice break higher out of the lateral range.

HUG: Researching the next date.

IDXX: Forecast 4-19-04.

LM: Researching next possible date.

LXK: Researching next date. Breaking higher again.

MBG: No split on 3-4-04. Volume jumping as it starts to move off the 18 day.

MBT: Researching date. Blowing it out to the upside, so we are just letting it continue the run.

NCEN: Forecast 4-15. Not looking too good.

OSI: Forecast 4-15-04.

SONC: Forecast 3-15-04. Struggling at the 50 day MVA.

STJ: Forecast 4-12-04 in conjunction with earnings.

STN: Forecast 4-20-04 before the open.

TOL: Researching the nest date as no announcement with the board meeting on 3-2. Holding up well in a nice test.

UOPX: Enjoying another good move as we wait for the next date to come.

VAR: VAR is calling a special shareholder meeting to increase authorized shares. Date has not been released yet and VAR will file a proxy statement to that effect.

VIP: Forecast 3-26-04. No split announced, but record results shot it higher. Beautiful.

WFMI: Researching next date.

Full Write-ups: We do not cover all candidates in full in each report, but focus on those ready to make a move or are right at their forecast announcement date. This way we are focused on those stocks ready to make moves.

New Pre-Announcement Plays:

Play Date: 03/25/2004
POOL (SCP Pool--$36.02; +1.39; optionable): Basic materials. Forecast to announce a split on 4-22-04 before the market opens in conjunction with earnings or on 5-6-04 in conjunction with its annual shareholder meeting.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 3 for 2 split on 8-8-03 in conjunction with a board meeting. The stock price was $37.50. Prior to this last announced the following 3 for 2 splits: 7-30-01 in conjunction with a board meeting at a stock price of 38.60; on 5-11-00 in conjunction with the annual shareholder meeting at a stock price of $34. 3 for 2 splits were also announced in July 1998 and September 1997. The annual shareholder meeting is scheduled for 5-6-04 at 10:00 CT at which time authorized shares will be increased.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/pool.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Trying to start the breakout move in its 20 week base showing solid 5 to 3 accumulation (5 up price weeks on rising volume to 3 down price weeks on rising volume). Volume has swelled the past two sessions as POOL moved off the 50 day MVA (34.53). POOL just split in September, but it has already regained all of that split and is looking to breakout again. That is when we move in on that high volume breakout move.
Volume: 147.46K Avg Volume: 151.272K
BUY POINT: $36.62 Volume=227K Target=$43 Stop=$34.06
POSITION: QCL GG - July $35c (60 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/pool.html

Continuing Pre-Announcement Plays:

Play Date: 03/23/2004
CNMD (Conmed--$27.29; +0.12; optionable): Forecast to announce a split in April in conjunction with earnings. The company has been able to confirm a date at this time.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 3 for 2 split on 8-9-01 in conjunction with a board meeting. The stock price was $32. The annual shareholder meeting is scheduled for 5-18-04 at 3:30 ET. The company has sufficient shares for a 3 for 2 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/cnmd.html
STATUS: 50 day MVA test. A nice, tight doji at the 50 day MVA (27.30) with volume shooting higher as CNMD continues to test the November breakout. An excellent breakout in November and run up the 18 day MVA (28.11). After that nice run to mid- February it is taking a rest, moving laterally and lower on mostly below average volume. Money flow remains solid, and looking for a volume breakout given the nice hold at support and the surging volume.
Volume: 340.607K Avg Volume: 160.681K
BUY POINT: $28.42 Volume=240K Target=$34 Stop=$27.18

Play Date: 03/06/2004
ZBRA (Zebra Technologies--$69.38; +1.61; optionable): PC peripherals. Forecast to announce a split on 4-27-04 in conjunction with a board of director meeting or on 4-28-04 in conjunction with earnings.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 3 for 2 split on 7-24-03 at a stock price of $76.5. The annual shareholder meeting will be on 6-3-04. Information on the time is not available at this time. The company has sufficient shares for a 3 for 2 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/z/zbra.html
STATUS: 50 day MVA test. A nice run in 2003 got choppy early this year, but ZBRA got back under control and after tapping at 72.50 early this month, it has come back to test the 50 day MVA (67.60) on lower trade. It has been an orderly decline, letting the stock catch its breath. Thursday it was moving up off the 50 day on rising, average volume. Money flow is out ahead of the stock and has turned back up. ZBRA now looks ready to make the move, following that money flow higher.
Volume: 360.412K Avg Volume: 324.681K
BUY POINT: $70.88 Volume=517K Target=$84 Stop=$69.42
POSITION: ZBQ HN - Aug. $70c (57 delta) &/or Stock

PRE-SPLITS

Play Date: 03/13/2004
DNA (Genentech--$105.28; +2.40; optionable): Biotechnology.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/dna.html
STATUS: 50 day MVA test. After a nice break higher starting in late February, DNA made a nice, orderly pullback on mostly lower volume. Not bad action as the rest of the market sold off DNA tested in an orderly fashion on falling trade. Thursday it bounced off the 50 day but volume was not rallying above average. Money flow remains strong as the stock held the prior highs. Looks ready make the strong move back up for us.
Volume: 2.757M Avg Volume: 2.588M
BUY POINT: $106.92 Volume=4M Target=$118 Stop=$104.38
POSITION: DNA FT - June $110c (51 delta)

DWCH (Datawatch--$9.75; -0.14; no options): Business software. Splits 2:1 on 4-9-04
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/dwch.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Still tantalizing us as it holds the 18 day MVA (9.71) on very low below average volume. It continues its nice and orderly test as the market sold, and continued as it rallied Thursday. It will move in its own time, and that time looks near. Excellent money flow and ready to move in as it continues the breakout from its 6 month flat base.
Volume: 17.361K Avg Volume: 125.954K
BUY POINT: $10.92 Volume=175K Target=$13.15 Stop=$10.16
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Play Date: 03/13/2004
FOSL (Fossil--$33.17; +0.72; optionable): Watches, accessories, etc. Splits 3:2 on 4-9-04.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/f/fosl.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Volume has jumped the past two sessions as FOSL sold Wednesday and popped up Thursday. A nice flying plateau over 32 after the breakout from its 24 week base. It is getting ready; we just have to be patient. Money flow is still moving up ahead of price, and we are looking for stock to follow it higher.
Volume: 277.656K Avg Volume: 222.863K
BUY POINT: New buy point: $34.88 (orig. $33.82) Volume=310K Target=$39 Stop=$32.35
POSITION: FUA FF - June $30c (83 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/fosl.html

Play Date: 03/11/2004
HOV (Hovnanian Enterprises--$86.59; +0.82; optionable): Residential construction. Splits 2:1 on 3-29-04.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/h/hov.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Volume rose to average Thursday as HOV showed a tight doji at the 10 day MVA (86.13). It continues to hold in the handle to its 15 week base. This one requires our patience, but the pattern is solid and we just have to wait for the volume breakout. Volume is sneaking higher, so we are ready for the move.
Volume: 884.5K Avg Volume: 865.181K
BUY POINT: $88.75 Volume=1.4M Target=$99 Stop=$85.22
POSITION: HOV ER - May $90c (45 delta)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/hov.html

Play Date: 03/16/2004
IDSA (Industrial Services of America--$28.2; +1.43; no options): Waste Management. Splits 2:1 on 3-31-04.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/i/idsa.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Still holding the 18 day MVA (27.51) on low, below average volume. It is in a narrow range as it works laterally, preparing to follow money flow higher as that money flow is moving up even as the stock moves laterally. Another enticing one that has yet to make its move, but one that looks ready to bounce back up.
Volume: 336.059K Avg Volume: 852.59K
BUY POINT: $29.22 Volume=2M Target=$35 Stop=$27.17
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

POST-SPLIT

Play Date: 03/23/2004
ACV (Alberto-Culver--$44.21; +0.13; optionable): Personal care products
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/acv.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Still holding the 18 day MVA (44.22) as it tests the strong breakout from its 16 week flat base to start the month. Volume moved up close to average Thursday as ACV continued to hold the breakout and near support. Excellent money flow even as the stock pulls back. Looking for it to follow that money higher on even more volume.
Volume: 520.4K Avg Volume: 496.454K
BUY POINT: $45.62 Volume=700K Target=$52 Stop=$44.12
POSITION: ACV FI - June $45c (45 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/acv.html

Play Date: 03/22/2004
LTD (The Limited--$19.58; +0.04; optionable): Apparel stores (The Limited, Victoria's Secret)
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/l/ltd.html
STATUS: 50 day MVA test. LTD moved up off the 50 day (19.03) this week on raised guidance, and has spent the last two sessions testing the 10 day MVA (19.42), showing doji's at that level. Volume has rallied as the stock holds in a tight intraday range. That often indicates that the stock is 'crouching', getting ready to spring. Just waiting for it to surge on that continued strong volume.
Volume: 4.688M Avg Volume: 2.629M
BUY POINT: $19.68 Volume=3.9M Target=$23.62 Stop=$18.88
POSITION: LTD HD - Aug. $20c (43 delta) &/or Stock
