Play Date: 06/14/2004
DF (Dean Foods--$35.28; +0.12; optionable): Food products, dairy
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/df.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Nice doji at the 18 day EMA (35.07) as DF is completing the handle to its 14 week base. May not be glamorous but it is an excellent base that formed over the 200 day SMA (32.74) on the lows, a key support level. Split a year ago in June, and this is its second base since. Nice looking base with money flow running higher ahead of price. Very low volume as it pulls back to form the handle, indicating few sellers. Need to see volume run higher on the breakout move.

HLEX (Healthextras--$14.89; 0.00; optionable): Insurance
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/h/hlex.html
STATUS: Breakout test. One of the market sectors holding up the best, HLEX dipped below the 18 day EMA (14.78) briefly last week but has snapped right back on some strong volume. It has tested the breakout move from its 20 week cup with handle base sporting strong 9 to 3 accumulation (9 up price weeks on rising volume to 3 down price weeks on rising volume). Money flow dipped but held solid and is now rallying higher ahead of price. Looks ready to continue the move higher.

SMTS (Somanetics--$14.64; +0.19; no options): Medical appliances
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/smts.html
STATUS: Breakout test. SMTS broke from a 16 week cup with handle base in early March and put in a good $4 move. It hit the rocks some in May, undercutting the 50 day EMA (13.08) but then recovered with a strong move on huge volume. It made a new breakout high and this month has been easing back to test that move, holding over the April high at 14. Tremendous money flow is leading higher, and we are looking for SMTS to follow the money on once again above average volume.

VSR (Versar--$4.91; +0.14; no options): Waste management
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/v/vsr.html
STATUS: Breakout test. VSR basted out of a 12.5 month cup with handle base in early April. Excellent 13 to 2 accumulation in the base, showing money was moving in the whole time. It is making its second test of the 18 day EMA (4.75); stocks tend to make 4 to 5 such runs up the 10 and 18 day EMA. That gives VSR plenty more upside on this move. Volume was up sharply Monday as VSR jumped off the 18 day. Very strong money flow is still out ahead of price. Looks ready to continue the move.
Volume: 83.6K Avg Volume: 69.409K
BUY POINT: $5.15 Volume=100K Target=$6.25 Stop=$4.79
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)
