THE PLAYS

Tuesday night play results:
AIRT: Excellent break higher on huge volume.
AKAM: Solid move on solid volume.
PAAS: Nice surge on some decent trade.

New plays for Thursday:

Upside:

Play Date: 10/06/2004
APCS (Alamosa Holdings--$8.38; +0.42; optionable): Wireless communications
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/apcs.html
STATUS: Ascending triangle. Volume has surged the past two weeks as APCS prepares for the breakout from its 11 week base that has formed along the 50 day EMA (7.77). Accumulation in the pattern is a solid 3 to 1, showing net buyers and setting up the breakout move. Money flow is very strong, leading higher. Breakouts from these patterns can be explosive and we are looking for volume to jump back up as it continues the drive through the buy point.
Volume: 932.561K Avg Volume: 1.089M
BUY POINT: $8.57 Volume=1.6M Target=$10.38 Stop=$7.98
POSITION: CUT CU - Mar. $7.50c (72 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 10/06/2004
GTIV (Gentiva Health Services--$16.45; +0.03; no options): Medical Practitioners
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/g/gtiv.html
After Hours: $16.51
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle. GTIV is working on a two week handle to its 14 week base. It is setting up for a breakout to another all-time high, using the 200 day SMA (14.92) on the lows as support. Solid 4 to 2 accumulation in the base shows net buying. Now it is working laterally over the 10 day EMA (16.29) in a narrow range, readying for the breakout move.
Volume: 101.334K Avg Volume: 198.045K
BUY POINT: $16.88 Volume=300K Target=$20 Stop=$16.12
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Play Date: 10/06/2004
ZQK (Quicksilver--$26.70; +0.83; optionable): Youth apparel
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/z/zqk.html
After Hours: $26.72
STATUS: Flying plateau. ZQK started the next move higher Wednesday as volume jumped back above average. It is making the move out of a 4 week plateau that formed after the breakout from a 12 week reverse head and shoulders pattern. Solid 3 to 1 accumulation shows net buyers, and money flow is pointing the way. Looking to move in on a further volume rise from heres.
Volume: 771.8K Avg Volume: 523.318K

SUBSCRIBER PORTFOLIO: These are stocks subscribers suggest by vote that we put in a portfolio to track and move into the stocks if they perform well. If you have any suggestions for additions or deletions, email us. We don't cover them all each report, just when something interesting is developing.

BR, COH, EASI, EBAY, GMAI, GTRC, HDWR, JNPR, MSFT, QCOM

Play Date: 10/06/2004
JNPR (Juniper Networks--$25.89; +0.85; optionable): PC networking
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/j/jnpr.html
After Hours: $25.80
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle. JNPR is one of the early earnings announcers, and in the past it has set up nice patterns and then used earnings to explode higher. At least that is what it was doing until the market peaked in January. It has once again set up, having formed the 9 month base during the entire market base. Volume has started to pick up the past two weeks as it came off the handle low at the 50 day EMA (23.58), rallying to the September high (the handle high) on Wednesday with some solid trade. Looking for a breakout over that handle high on some continued strong volume.
Volume: 12.358M Avg Volume: 9.879M
BUY POINT: $26.15 Volume=15M Target=$30 Stop=$25.12
POSITION: JUX AE - Jan. $25c (62 delta) &/or Stock

SUBSCRIBER WATCHLIST

We continually receive ideas for potential plays from subscribers. Many times they are already on our watchlists, other times not. We always take a look and sometimes find a gem or two, or more. We don't necessarily endorse these, but want to provide a forum for subscribers with ideas that may appeal to other subscribers. We may just put on the ticker or we might describe our thoughts as to why or why not we think it is a buy or sell. This is a way we can all learn a bit more and maybe find a few more candidates to make us some good money.

Upside:

RAE: Made a higher low off the 50 day EMA last week as it works toward the breakout from its 8 month ascending triangle base that formed using the 200 day SMA on the lows.

Downside:

IDTI: Has rebounded to the 50 day EMA in its continuing downtrend, stalling at that level the past three sessions. This is where it has consistently failed the past 6 months.
