THE PLAYS

Good movers Friday: APCS; AVN; ACDO

Thursday night play results:
AVN: Finished well off high, but strong volume as it continued the move higher.
ACXM: Still setting up nicely.
CHT: Gapped higher but gave back the move as the market sold. Holding up very well.
MSCC: Nice doji at the 10 day EMA. Getting ready.

New Plays:

Upside:

Play Date: 10/09/2004
ARTI (Artisan Components--$29.59; -0.24; optionable): Semiconductor integrated circuits
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/arti.html
After Hours: $29.63
STATUS: Breakout test. In late August ARTI blasted out of a 10 week double bottom base that formed on top of the 200 day SMA (23.25). It then ran up the short term MA (10 and 18 day EMA) through September and has now eased back to the 10 day EMA (29.54) for its second test of the August. Money flow has remained strong even as it makes this very low volume pullback. One of the strongest in its sector, we are looking for it to hold this level and rebound again on stronger volume. That is when we will start positions.
Volume: 139.316K Avg Volume: 555.61K
BUY POINT: $29.89 Volume=750K Target=$34.85 Stop=$21.05
POSITION: UAR CF - Mar. $30c (55 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 10/09/2004
CAND (Candies, Inc.--$4.12; -0.01; no options): Footwear
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/cand.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Exploded out of a flat base in early September and surged to 4.95 on the initial run. It is currently making its first test, easing back to the 18 day EMA (4.04) on mostly lower volume. Strong money flow and accumulation continues even as the stock makes this test. The first breakout test is one of our favorite entry points because it shows us that investors still want to move into the stock after the breakout. That typically means a lot more upside ahead.
Volume: 73.34K Avg Volume: 181.727K
BUY POINT: $4.28 Volume=275K Target=$5.25 Stop=$4.02
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Play Date: 10/09/2004
INCY (Incyte--$10.29; +0.08; optionable): Biotechnology
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/i/incy.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Another stock that surged out of a nice base and is currently testing that breakout. A nice looking 8.5 month cup with handle base sporting excellent 8 to 2 accumulation (8 up price weeks on rising volume to 2 down price weeks on rising volume) shows buyers moving into the stock as it consolidated. Volume surged on the September breakout, and is getting really hot again. Friday INCY came back to test the 18 day EMA (9.51) and rebounded to post a gain on strong volume. Looking to move in as it makes the rebound through the buy point on continued strong volume.
Volume: 3.645M Avg Volume: 924.984K
BUY POINT: $10.54 Volume=2M Target=$12.88 Stop=$9.97
POSITION: IPQ AB - Jan. $10c (61 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 10/09/2004
KRY (Crystellex Intl.--$3.41; +0.17; no options): Gold
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/k/kry.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Gold has come back to life very recently, and KRY has set up a very good pattern to take advantage of this renewed interest. Friday volume was up as KRY started the breakout move from its 7.5 month base. Strong 10 to 5 accumulation in the pattern has set the foundation for the breakout move as investors were accumulating the stock even as it consolidated in this base. Excellent money flow is leading higher and relative strength is breaking out, the latter a good confirmation of the breakout move.
Volume: 510.9K Avg Volume: 450.158K
BUY POINT: $3.49 Volume=675K Target=$4.21 Stop=$3.25
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Play Date: 10/09/2004
SWC (Stilwater Mining--$15.54; -0.03; optionable): Industrial metals and minerals
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/swc.html
After Hours: $15.55
STATUS: Flat base. Volume has come to life the past two weeks as SWC prepares for the breakout from its 26 week base. It has made three higher lows of late, one in August, one in September, and one just at the start of this month. Accumulation in the base is excellent at 7 to 2, setting the foundation for the breakout as the accumulation shows the bigger investors acquiring shares during the base. Money flow is starting to rise as it nears the breakout. Strong volume spikes to end last week tell us to get ready for a breakout attempt.
Volume: 1.129M Avg Volume: 381.27K
BUY POINT: $16.38 Volume=750K Target=$19.88 Stop=$15.78
POSITION: SWC AC - Jan. $15c (62 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/ci/swc.html

Play Date: 10/09/2004
VWPT (Viewpoint Corp.--$2.94; 0.00; no options): Multimedia and graphics software
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/v/vwpt.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. VWPT is in its second big base after coming off the lows for the stock hit in March 2003. The current base is a 6 month pattern sporting positive money flow and surging money flow that is well out in front of the stock price. May take a couple more days to pullback and test the 10 day EMA (2.71) fully before rallying to the new breakout. That would form a very nice handle and set up a nice breakout.
Volume: 550.096K Avg Volume: 455.583K
BUY POINT: $3.11 Volume=683K Target=$3.89 Stop=$2.89
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)
