THE PLAYS

Good movers Friday: APCS; AVN; SBACK ACDO; SFD

Thursday night play results:
AVN: Finished well off high, but strong volume as it continued the move higher.
MSCC: Nice doji at the 10 day EMA. Getting ready.
PQUE: Surged Friday on some solid volume but gave back the move. Still a nice base and ready for the breakout move.

New plays for Monday:

Upside:

Play Date: 10/09/2004
CRZO (Carrizo Oil & Gas--$10.15; +0.17; no options): Oil and gas
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/crzo.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. You could also call this pattern a reverse head and shoulders, but either way you look at it, it is an accumulation pattern that is setting up for a nice breakout from its 15 week base. Accumulation in the base is a strong 4 to 2 (4 up price weeks on rising volume to 2 down price weeks on rising volume), showing us net buyers of the stock during the base. That sets up a good foundation for the breakout and subsequent run higher. The stock used the 200 day SMA (8.42) on the low, a very important institutional support level. Ready for the next breakout that will send it near an all-time high, and that means no disgruntled shareholders ready to sell it to get out 'even'. Looking for a continued strong volume move through the buy point.

BUY POINT: $10.22 Volume=262K Target=$12.45 Stop=$9.63
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

DRIV (Digital River--$29.05; -0.15; optionable): Internet software and services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/driv.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. A very nice handle has formed the past week to the 14 week base. The handle is where the stock fades back after a good run off the low, shaking out the weaker holders who bought at a higher price and fear the stock is turning back over to head lower once more. The lighter volume shows us, however, that there are not many sellers on the pullback. That indicates just a short term profit taking test. Strong 5 to 2 accumulation in the pattern and solid money flow. Looks ready to give us a breakout move at some point this week. Looking for volume to jump higher as the stock moves through the buy point.
Volume: 377.99K Avg Volume: 753.547K
BUY POINT: $30.12 Volume=1.1M Target=$35 Stop=$29.05
POSITION: DQI CF - Mar. $30c (51 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 10/09/2004
KRY (Crystellex Intl.--$3.41; +0.17; no options): Gold
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/k/kry.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Gold has come back to life very recently, and KRY has set up a very good pattern to take advantage of this renewed interest. Friday volume was up as KRY started the breakout move from its 7.5 month base. Strong 10 to 5 accumulation in the pattern has set the foundation for the breakout move as investors were accumulating the stock even as it consolidated in this base. Excellent money flow is leading higher and relative strength is breaking out, the latter a good confirmation of the breakout move.
Volume: 510.9K Avg Volume: 450.158K
BUY POINT: $3.49 Volume=675K Target=$4.21 Stop=$3.25
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Play Date: 10/09/2004
VWPT (Viewpoint Corp.--$2.94; 0.00; no options): Multimedia and graphics software
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/v/vwpt.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. VWPT is in its second big base after coming off the lows for the stock hit in March 2003. The current base is a 6 month pattern sporting positive money flow and surging money flow that is well out in front of the stock price. May take a couple more days to pullback and test the 10 day EMA (2.71) fully before rallying to the new breakout. That would form a very nice handle and set up a nice breakout.
Volume: 550.096K Avg Volume: 455.583K
BUY POINT: $3.11 Volume=683K Target=$3.89 Stop=$2.89
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

SUBSCRIBER PORTFOLIO: These are stocks subscribers suggest by vote that we put in a portfolio to track and move into the stocks if they perform well. If you have any suggestions for additions or deletions, email us. We don't cover them all each report, just when something interesting is developing.

BR, COH, EASI, EBAY, GTRC, HDWR, JNPR, MSFT, QCOM

GMAI continued to struggle and it has been dropped.

MSFT: Continues to fade back after the last September rally. Holding the 10 day EMA, and want to see it rebound from here.

QCOM: Nice low volume test of the recent breakout. Looking for it to hold near the 10 day EMA (40.46) and rebound once more for a somewhat aggressive new entry point.

SUBSCRIBER WATCHLIST

We continually receive ideas for potential plays from subscribers. Many times they are already on our watchlists, other times not. We always take a look and sometimes find a gem or two, or more. We don't necessarily endorse these, but want to provide a forum for subscribers with ideas that may appeal to other subscribers. We may just put on the ticker or we might describe our thoughts as to why or why not we think it is a buy or sell. This is a way we can all learn a bit more and maybe find a few more candidates to make us some good money.

Upside:

BUCY: New issue in July, it is testing back to the 18 day EMA after a new high in late September. Farm and construction machinery.

Downside:

ADIC: heading lower after a test of the 18 day EMA.
