THE PLAYS

Good movers Wednesday: CEDC; GISX; LRW; PLCE

Tuesday night play results:
CVNS: Volume moved up to average as CVNS looks ready for the break higher.
GSIC: Took a day of rest.
VCLK: Jumped higher but was selling back most of the day. Still in the pattern but need to see a solid volume move stick.

New Plays:

Upside:

Play Date: 12/22/2004
AMLN (Amylin Pharmaceuticals--$23.14; +0.63; optionable): Drugs
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/amln.html
STATUS: Cup. AMLN is working on a long 16 month base, starting to build the right side of the pattern. Strong move through the 200 day SMA (21.51) 7 sessions back and then a lower volume test of the move. Wednesday AMLN jumped off that test on a good shot of rising, average volume. Accumulation in the pattern is excellent at 10 to 2 (10 up price weeks on rising volume to 2 down price weeks on rising volume); that shows excellent buying during the base even at this early stage. Ready to move into positions on a continued volume move through the buy point. It has plenty of upside before it even reaches the top of the base at 30; like that we can make good money without having to plow new ground. We will let it do so if it will, however.
Volume: 879.793K Avg Volume: 901.954K
BUY POINT: $24.05 Volume=1.4M Target=$29.88 Stop=$22.37
POSITION: AQM DX - Apr. $22.50c (62 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 12/22/2004
BKST (Brookstone--$20.29; +0.90; optionable): Gadget stores
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/bkst.html
After Hours: $20.29
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Volume is surging as BKST makes the breakout move from its 25 week base. As we have said, the retailers are showing strength that belies the supposed weakness in the holiday season. Strong 7 to 4 accumulation in the base shows net buyers, and the base formed using the 200 day SMA (18.18) as support, a key institutional level. Money flow is surging ahead of price, another strong attribute to this base. Ready to move into positions on a further volume move and then add to positions on a successful test of the breakout move.
Volume: 225.373K Avg Volume: 121.818K
BUY POINT: $20.45 Volume=195K Target=$24.62 Stop=$19.12
POSITION: BEQ ED - May $20c (60 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 12/22/2004
DHB (DHB Industries--$18.61; +0.72; optionable): Security and protection services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/dhb.html
STATUS: 50 day EMA test. After a strong November breakout and run higher from a 20 week more or less flat base, DHB has come back to test the move on mostly lower volume (that shows few sellers compared to buyers on the way up), holding above the 50 day EMA (17.12), a key support level, as it makes the test. Volume jumped back well above average Wednesday as DHB moved through the short term MA (10 and 18 day EMA). It looks ready to resume the breakout move, but we want to see it clear the recent peak in mid-December at 19.30. Accumulation in the pattern was a strong 5 to 2. Money flow has turned back up ahead of price. Looking to move in on a strong move through the buy point.
Volume: 2.34M Avg Volume: 1.586M
BUY POINT: $19.35 Volume=2.4M Target=$23.55 Stop=$18.15
POSITION: DHB DD - Apr. $20c (40 delta) &/or Stock

SUBSCRIBER PORTFOLIO: These are stocks subscribers suggest by vote that we put in a portfolio to track and move into the stocks if they perform well. If you have any suggestions for additions or deletions, email us. We don't cover them all each report, just when something interesting is developing.

BR, COH, EASI, EBAY, GTRC, HDWR, JNPR, MSFT, QCOM

COH: Very nice low volume move back to the 10 day EMA to test the surge higher last week. Can take new positions off of this test, but it is the third one since the November breakout and that means it is a bit extended here.

JNPR: Trying to move back through the 50 day EMA after breaking below that level last week. Weaker volume on the rebound and showing a doji at the 50 day. Those are not good indications it is ready to move right back up through that key level.

QCOM: Good volume as it starts the breakout move.

SUBSCRIBER WATCHLIST

We continually receive ideas for potential plays from subscribers. Many times they are already on our watchlists, other times not. We always take a look and sometimes find a gem or two, or more. We don't necessarily endorse these, but want to provide a forum for subscribers with ideas that may appeal to other subscribers. We may just put on the ticker or we might describe our thoughts as to why or why not we think it is a buy or sell. This is a way we can all learn a bit more and maybe find a few more candidates to make us some good money.

Upside:

MSO: Martha is doing well in prison, half way through her sentence. The stock almost doubled the past month then spent the past week testing the move, tapping the 18 day EMA on the low. Starting to rebound, but could use more volume as it does.

SNDA: Chinese internet games and has quadrupled since coming public in May. It has moved mostly laterally the past month, coming back to test the 50 day EMA the past week on lower volume, bouncing Tuesday on stronger trade. A bit volatile here as it has run far and needs a breather to consolidate.
