THE PLAYS

New Plays:

Upside:

Play Date: 01/03/2005
EFX (Equifax--$28.66; +0.56; optionable): Credit histories
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/e/efx.html
STATUS: Flying plateau. EFX surged on strong volume Monday, breaking out form a 5 week lateral move that acted to consolidate its November breakout from a 30 week cup with handle base. That prior base showed solid 9 to 5 accumulation (9 up price weeks on rising volume to 5 down price weeks on rising volume); the flying plateau strong 3 to 0, both showing solid net buying during both consolidations. Money flow is surging higher with the price and relative strength is breaking out as well, a good corroboration of the price move. Ready to pick up positions on a further bounce higher.
Volume: 1.578M Avg Volume: 436.636K
BUY POINT: $28.82 Volume=600K Target=$34 Stop=$27.69
POSITION: EFX DE - Apr. $25c (75 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 01/03/2005
ISCA (Intl. Speedway--$53.00; +0.20; optionable): Motor sport facilities (Daytona, Talladega, etc.)
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/i/isca.html
After Hours: $53.06
STATUS: Reverse head and shoulders. Nice 16 week accumulation pattern has formed over the 200 day SMA (49.01), using that key institutional support level on the lows. Strong 5 to 2 accumulation in the pattern shows net buyers as it has worked through the pattern. Money flow is another plus, moving higher ahead of price. Volume jumped well above average Monday as ISCA ran in place, showing a nice, tight doji at the 10 day EMA (52.67). Back on December 16 it raised its guidance, and that helped ISCA rally up to complete the pattern. Now we are just waiting for the next volume break higher; the jump in volume Monday is a good indication that could be ready to start.
Volume: 193.825K Avg Volume: 103.818K
BUY POINT: $53.62 Volume=156K Target=$61.55 Stop=$51.89
POSITION: QWY CJ - Mar. $50c (65 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 01/03/2005
WSTM (Workstream--$3.62; +0.22; no options): Staffing and outsourcing
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/w/wstm.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. A neat little base that formed up the past 12 weeks, holding over the 200 day SMA (2.86) at the pattern bottom. Accumulation is a solid 3 to 1, and money flow is jumping higher as the stock starts the breakout move. This is a base on base pattern, the current base forming right on the heels of the early October breakout from its 6 month base. Relative strength is making the breakout as well, a very good corroboration of the breakout move.
Volume: 544.492K Avg Volume: 217.545K
BUY POINT: $3.72 Volume=300K Target=$4.65 Stop=$3.55
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Play Date: 01/03/2005
YHOO (Yahoo!--$38.18; +0.50; optionable): Internet search, portal
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/y/yhoo.html
After Hours: $38.24
STATUS: Flat base. YHOO has spent the last 8 weeks working laterally above the 50 day EMA (36.86) on practically all below average volume. This follows the late September breakout and run from a 12 week cup with handle base. Not a huge surge on the original breakout. This makes it basically a base on base pattern, very good for weeding out the all of the sellers. Strong 6 to 2 accumulation in the earlier base and solid 2 to 0 accumulation in the recent lateral move. Got a modest boost Monday from a brokerage firm upping the revenue estimates for YHOO and GOOG. Looking for volume to jump again as it makes the break higher out of this base.
Volume: 25.544M Avg Volume: 16.631M
BUY POINT: $39.25 Volume=22M Target=$46 Stop=$37.35
POSITION: YHQ DU - Apr. $37.50c (58 delta) &/or Stock

SUBSCRIBER PORTFOLIO: These are stocks subscribers suggest by vote that we put in a portfolio to track and move into the stocks if they perform well. If you have any suggestions for additions or deletions, email us. We don't cover them all each report, just when something interesting is developing.

BR, COH, EASI, EBAY, GTRC, HDWR, JNPR, MSFT, QCOM

BR: Crashing through the 50 day EMA on strong volume. Here it goes again. Needs to hold 40 and rebound to the 50 day. If it fails there, does not look good.

EASI: Held up very well in the selling, still moving laterally on low volume.

HDWR: Managed to rally back to the 200 day SMA after undercutting that level during the session. Not very good looking here after forming something of a head and shoulders base.

JNPR: Struggling at the 50 day EMA, slipping below that level as volume moved up to average.

SUBSCRIBER WATCHLIST

We continually receive ideas for potential plays from subscribers. Many times they are already on our watchlists, other times not. We always take a look and sometimes find a gem or two, or more. We don't necessarily endorse these, but want to provide a forum for subscribers with ideas that may appeal to other subscribers. We may just put on the ticker or we might describe our thoughts as to why or why not we think it is a buy or sell. This is a way we can all learn a bit more and maybe find a few more candidates to make us some good money.

Upside:

COST: Working over the 50 day EMA on very low volume. Currently in an 8 week base, and it looks to be about half over here.
