THE PLAYS

Good movers Wednesday: PLCE; ENER

Tuesday night play results:
CPS: Continued to hover near the 18 day EMA as it tests the breakout.
MAPS: Holding up decently, but not the base action.
MPE: Nice doji at the 18 day EMA.
PMTI: Tried to rally but faded into the close. Still ready to bounce.

New Plays:

Upside:

Play Date: 01/05/2005
ASTM (Aastrom Biosciences--$1.56; -0.07; no options): Medical labs
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/astm.html
After Hours: $1.56
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Nice little 10 week pattern has set up over the 50 day and 200 day SMA (1.18, 1.01). Volume exploded Tuesday as it started the breakout. Wednesday it opened lower, rallied a bit more but then faded into the close, taking a breather after the strong Tuesday move. Not bad action given the market selling. Outstanding 5 to 0 accumulation in the pattern shows only buyers, and the strong break higher Tuesday in a down market shows some enthusiasm. Strong money flow is racing higher. This current base formed after a longer 10 month cup base, a nice base on base pattern ready to make a stronger move.
Volume: 15.04M Avg Volume: 3.629M
BUY POINT: $1.68 Volume=5.4M Target=$2.18 Stop=$1.56
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Play Date: 01/05/2005
ISON (Isonics--$5.65; +0.77; no options): Specialty chemicals and isotopes for life sciences and health care applications
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/i/ison.html
After Hours: $5.65
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Taking another run at ISON as it has formed up an 11 week base over the 18 day EMA. It exploded higher in October and then fell into the current pattern. Volume dried up after it sold back to the 18 day (5.12), showing few sellers as it worked laterally along the bottom of the base. Volume has rallied as the stock has rallied and faded when the stock has faded. Excellent 4 to 1 accumulation in the base shows mostly buyers and confirms the price/volume action we have seen. Tuesday volume shot higher as ISON gapped up and tried and rallied. It faded back with the market selling, but managed to hold onto more than half the gain. Solid action, and relative strength is ready for the breakout. That means that ISON is outperforming most of the market. Looking for another solid volume move to start positions.
Volume: 28.276M Avg Volume: 11.026M
BUY POINT: $5.95 Volume=17M Target=$7.45 Stop=$5.53
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Play Date: 01/05/2005
TKO (Telkonet--$5.49; +0.37; no options): ITS software
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/t/tko.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Nice handle has formed to the 9 month base sporting excellent 14 to 5 accumulation. Volume was lower in the handle as it pulled back the past three weeks, then started to jump Tuesday and Wednesday. After a volatile session Tuesday TKO rebounded Wednesday, posting a gain on strong trade. Excellent money flow. Relative strength is ready for the breakout as well.
Volume: 717.4K Avg Volume: 430.09K
BUY POINT: $5.78 Volume=645K Target=$7.22 Stop=$5.38
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

SUBSCRIBER PORTFOLIO: These are stocks subscribers suggest by vote that we put in a portfolio to track and move into the stocks if they perform well. If you have any suggestions for additions or deletions, email us. We don't cover them all each report, just when something interesting is developing.

BR, COH, EASI, EBAY, GTRC, HDWR, JNPR, MSFT, QCOM

EBAY: Watching it closely here as it shows a doji on the 50 day EMA. That is good action but that late December run was on low volume. That is not a completely fair comparison, however, as that was the holiday week between Christmas and New Years. Needs a high volume move off this level.

HDWR: Broke through the 200 day SMA but managed to rally back Wednesday. Unfortunately it looks to have set up a downtrend here.

MSFT: Pretty much rock solid compared to the market as it holds steady over the 50 day EMA.

QCOM: Once more holding at the 50 day EMA.

SUBSCRIBER WATCHLIST

We continually receive ideas for potential plays from subscribers. Many times they are already on our watchlists, other times not. We always take a look and sometimes find a gem or two, or more. We don't necessarily endorse these, but want to provide a forum for subscribers with ideas that may appeal to other subscribers. We may just put on the ticker or we might describe our thoughts as to why or why not we think it is a buy or sell. This is a way we can all learn a bit more and maybe find a few more candidates to make us some good money.

Upside:

ARQL: On our watchlist, it broke higher to start the week as the market sold. Good breakout from the double bottom with handle base. Good accumulation (8 to 5).

QSND: Moving in a 10 week ascending base that formed on the heels of the breakout from a 16 week cup with handle base.

CTRX: Nice test that has filled the gap from a late December breakout to a new high. Holding the 18 day EMA as it prepares to make the next move.
