THE PLAYS

Good movers Monday: AVO; ENMD; ESLR; IMAC; LCAV; MEE; MSTR; STN; TIWI; USU

Weekend play results:
AMX: Gapped higher but no volume.
GPN: Still holding the 50 day EMA in the consolidation
SGMS: Rebounded but not much volume.
ACS: Low volume test of the 200 day SMA.

New Plays:

Upside:

Play Date: 01/31/2005
HTCH (Hutchinson Technology--$35.30; +1.37; optionable): PC data storage devices
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/h/htch.html
After Hours: $35.20
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Strong volume Monday as HTCH started off the 50 day EMA (33.56) once more. It has used this key support as support for its 14 month base. It has formed up well again we like the price/volume action in the handle: up on up sessions, and lower on down sessions. Strong money flow is leading the way higher. After that quick test to the 50 day EMA it has reset and looks ready to make the breakout.
Volume: 763.514K Avg Volume: 372.772K
BUY POINT: $36.05 Volume=450K Target=$43 Stop=$34.32
POSITION: UTQ EG - May $35c (61 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 01/31/2005
WITS (Witness Systems--$17.81; +1.06; optionable): Application software
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/w/wits.html
After Hours: $17.54
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Volume surged Monday as WITS started the strong move off the 50 day EMA (16.60) that acted as support in the base of the 20 week base. Strong 5 to 2 accumulation shows net buying during the base and set up the breakout move. Ready to launch to a new multiyear high.
Volume: 729.663K Avg Volume: 381.772K
BUY POINT: $17.97 Volume=450K Target=$21.57 Stop=$16.85
POSITION: UPJ FW - June $17.50c (60 delta) &/or Stock

Downside:

Play Date: 01/31/2005
RPM (RPM, Inc.--$17.63; -0.20; optionable): Specialty paints, coatings and roofing systems
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/r/rpm.html
STATUS: Put. RPM peaked in late December on low volume and then turned over in January on strong trade. It broke the 50 day EMA (18.41) in the second week and then spent the next two weeks trying to retake it. It failed. Volume started higher Friday and then shot up Monday as RPM broke below support at 18. Looking to move in on some further downside for a 50%ish move to the target.
Volume: 1.436M Avg Volume: 537.681K
BUY POINT: $17.55 Volume=535K Target=$16.61 Stop=$18.04
POSITION: RPM OW - Mar. $17.50c (-43 delta)

SUBSCRIBER PORTFOLIO: These are stocks subscribers suggest by vote that we put in a portfolio to track and move into the stocks if they perform well. If you have any suggestions for additions or deletions, email us. We don't cover them all each report, just when something interesting is developing.

BR, COH, EASI, EBAY, GTRC, HDWR, JNPR, MSFT, QCOM

COH: Nice gap higher but volume was so-so.

EASI: Good volume as EASI moves off the 50 day EMA.

GTRC: Nice volume but could not clear recent resistance at 57.50.

SUBSCRIBER WATCHLIST

We continually receive ideas for potential plays from subscribers. Many times they are already on our watchlists, other times not. We always take a look and sometimes find a gem or two, or more. We don't necessarily endorse these, but want to provide a forum for subscribers with ideas that may appeal to other subscribers. We may just put on the ticker or we might describe our thoughts as to why or why not we think it is a buy or sell. This is a way we can all learn a bit more and maybe find a few more candidates to make us some good money.

Upside:

GMXR: Strong move Friday and a nice low volume test Monday. GMXR broke out two weeks back, has tested and is moving higher on strong trade. Nice energy stock. Pretty thin trade (65K average volume).

STN: Breaking higher from a nice week-long pullback after a strong surge last week out of a 7 week cup base. A big winner over the past 2 years, STN just continues to move higher.
