THE PLAYS

Good movers: AYE; AMHC; ESRX; FTO; GOOG; GPN; GPRO; RESP

New Pre-Split Play:

Play Date: 04/21/2005
STZ (Constellation Brands--$56.58; -0.03; optionable): Wineries and distilleries. Splits 2:1 on 5-16-05
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/stz.html
After Hours: $56.55
STATUS: Test breakout. Looking right back at the stock after it fell on harder volume Wednesday. It held the 10 day EMA (56.69), showing a doji on the candlestick chart at that level Thursday on continued strong volume. A strong leader. Just waiting for the stock to start back up on continued strong trade.
Volume: 1.252M Avg Volume: 669.272K
BUY POINT: $56.95 Volume=1M Target=$63.75 Stop=$55.65

New Post-Split Plays:

Play Date: 04/21/2005
ORCT (Orckit Communication--$21.55; +1.05; no options): Telecom equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/o/orct.html
After Hours: $21.50
STATUS: Test breakout. ORCT split in early April, but never gave a pre-split run. Instead it moved in a very tight lateral move over the 18 day EMA (19.98). Last week it came to life and shot higher on volume, rallying to 25. It spent the past week easing back on lower volume to test the move, holding the 18 day EMA (19.98) as it did. Volume surged again Thursday as ORCT moved off the 18 day. It gave back a good chunk of the move but still looks super here with strong money flow and relative strength ready for another breakout.
Volume: 1.109M Avg Volume: 587.454K
BUY POINT: $21.98 Volume=725K Target=$26 Stop=$20.44
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS

Current Pre-Announcement Plays: This is a list of stocks we are looking to announce splits. We are not in all positions but are letting them set up for the next move. In each report we look at the candidates that are in the best patterns ahead of their potential announcements. This focus on leaders in good patterns allows us to make good money even if companies do not announce the split. The key with splits is the pattern.

APPX: New information: Forecast 5-4-05

CI: Forecast 5-4-05

CVH: Tentatively forecast 5-3-05 before the open.

DGX: Forecast 4-21-05. Decent earnings and move, but no blast higher and no split announcement yet.

DIOD: Forecast 4-28-05

DVA: Forecast 5-18-05.

ESRX: Forecast 4-26-05.

FO: Forecast 4-22-05. FO is moving well off the 50 day EMA.

GPN: Researching new date. Nice breakout move.

GPRO: Forecast 5-4-05. Nice start to the play.

UNH: Forecast 5-12-05 with a board meeting. Back at the 50 day EMA, trying to hold and set up for the next move.

VLO: Forecast 4-27-05. Gapped down to the 50 day EMA and then rebounded for a gain on volume.

XRAY: Forecast 4-25-05 after the close.

Full Write-ups: We do not cover all candidates in full in each report, but focus on those ready to make a move or are right at their forecast announcement date. This way we are focused on those stocks ready to make moves.

New Pre-Announcement Plays: These are in the right sectors for the current market.

Play Date: 04/21/2005
CHTT (Chattem--$41.59; -0.26; optionable): Brand name consumer goods. Researching to pinpoint an exact date.
BACKGROUND: Last split 2:1 on 6-16-05 at $42.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/chtt.html
STATUS: Test 50 day EMA. We said we were going to look at CHTT again when it tested the 50 day EMA (40.20), and it did it in one move Thursday, tapping that support on the low and then rebounding for a modest loss on rising though below average volume. A good mover, CHTT broke out in late March and rallied to 46. It has since tested the move, pulling back on lower volume. Looking for it give us a strong move above the 10 day EMA (42.47) on above average volume to move into new positions. A leader, and a move over 46 takes it to another new all-time high.
Volume: 233.379K Avg Volume: 206.681K
BUY POINT: $42.62 Volume=300K Target=$48.89 Stop=$41.35
POSITION: HQT IH - Sept. $40c (67 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/chtt.html

Play Date: 04/21/2005
DADE (Dade Behring Holdings--$59.47; +0.48; optionable): Diagnostic substances. Forecast to announce a split 4-28-05 after the close or 5-23-05 in conjunction with a shareholder meeting where additional shares will be authorized.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/dade.html
After Hours: $59.47
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle. A very low profile double bottom; you could call it a cup still forming, but the pattern is there. Strong volume Thursday as DADE jumped to 60.50, but it could not hold the move. A nice 7 week pattern has formed following the mid-February breakout. Money flow is moving higher ahead of price. It is set up to make the move. Just want to see it clear the 50 day SMA (60.14) on some continued strong volume.
Volume: 382.909K Avg Volume: 212.59K
BUY POINT: $60.25 Volume=319K Target=$66.45 Stop=$58.89
POSITION: JDQ HL - Aug. $60c (53 delta) &/or Stock

Continuing Pre-Announcement Plays:

Buy not yet hit:

Play Date: 04/16/2005
FO (Fortune Brands--$87.06; +3.21; optionable): Consumer products. Forecast to announce a split 4-22-05
BACKGROUND: No splits in FO's history.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/f/fo.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Volume shot higher Thursday as FO gapped off the 50 day EMA (83.20) in a strong upside move, hitting our aggressive buy point. It is looking to break to another new all-time high and an announcement to morrow could send it on its way. To recap: Volume surged the past two weeks as FO made the breakout from its 9 week double bottom base that formed using the key 50 day EMA (83.20) as support. That is where institutions will step in to buy their stocks if they still want to accumulate shares. FO shows solid 4 to 2 accumulation (4 up price weeks on rising volume to 2 down price weeks on rising volume) in the pattern; the institutions are indeed still buying it. After the breakout FO has held solid in the market selling. Strong money flow is leading higher and relative strength is breaking out again. Looking for it to continue the move on the news and give us the entry point.
Volume: 2.258M Avg Volume: 629.318K
BUY POINT: Aggressive: 86.38; Next: $87.55 Volume=908K Target=$99 Stop=$85.65
POSITION: FO IQ - Sept. $85c (69 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/fo.html

Play Date: 04/12/2005
PFCB (PF Changs--$59.24; +0.72; optionable): Restaurants. Forecast to announce a split 4-27-05.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 3:2 split on 4-3-02 at $64.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/pfcb.html
STATUS: Breakout test. PFCB continues testing the 50 day EMA (58.07), bouncing up and down at that level the past three sessions. Holding up well as money flow moves higher ahead of the price. Looking for volume to surge as it breaks higher. To recap: PFCB broke higher to start the month, gapping higher off the 50 day EMA and rallying to 62. It has now tested the move, holding support at the 50 day EMA. Strong 4 to 2 accumulation in the pattern set up the breakout. Money flow is strong and relative strength broke out as well. It used the recent pullback to test its breakout and now is ready to continue the move.
Volume: 395.555K Avg Volume: 399.636K
BUY POINT: New: $59.89 (orig. $58.88) Volume=582K Target=$67.45 Stop=$57.64
POSITION: HUO GL - July $60c (65 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/pfcb.html

Play Date: 04/16/2005
XRAY (Dentsply--$55.68; +1.20; optionable): Medical instruments. Forecast 4-25-05 after the close.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 3:2 split 12-12-01 at $46.80.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/x/xray.html
After Hours: $55.65
STATUS: Reverse head and shoulders. After a quick intraday test to the 200 day SMA (53.18) Wednesday, XRAY bounced right back up Thursday. It is just below resistance at 56. That is where we want to see it break through on strong volume to enter. Money flow is surging higher ahead of price and we are looking for that to send XRAY through the buy point.
Volume: 322.491K Avg Volume: 483.636K
BUY POINT: $56.22 Volume=700K Target=$62 Stop=$54.98
POSITION: XEQ GK - July $55c (56 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/xray.html

New Buy Points on Current Plays:

We often like to add to current positions on strong, leadership stocks when the opportunity arises. There is nothing like a proven winner.

Play Date: 03/29/2005
APPX (American Pharmaceutical--$56.35; +1; optionable): Drugs. Forecast to announce a split 5-4-05.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 2 for 1 split on 3-4-02 in conjunction with a board meeting. The stock price was $52. The company has sufficient shares for a 2 for 1 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/appx.html
After Hours: $56.50
STATUS: Breakout test. Still in a very nice tight lateral move over the 18 day EMA (55.078) as it tests the early month break higher on solid trade. It is set up; just needs to give us the next move. To recap: APPX has come back to test the early April break higher from its 11 week ascending triangle base. The base formed above the 50 day EMA (51.90), a key support level. Strong money flow and relative strength ready for the next breakout.
Volume: 254.937K Avg Volume: 599.727K
BUY POINT: New positions: $56.89 (orig. positions: $54.91) Volume=975K Target=$62.45 Stop=$54.38
POSITION: AQO GK - July $55c (49 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/appx.html

Play Date: 03/29/2005
CNMD (Conmed--$30.64; +0.49; optionable): Medical appliances and equipment. Forecast to announce on May 17 with its annual shareholder meeting.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 3 for 2 split on 8-9-01 in conjunction with a board meeting. The stock price was $32. The annual shareholder meeting is scheduled for 5-17-05 at 3:30 ET. The company has sufficient shares for a 3 for 2 split.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/cnmd.html
STATUS: 50 day EMA test. APPX has fully tested the early April breakout, coming back to the 50 day EMA (29.97). It has held and rebounded Thursday, but volume was not there. Still solid. Just needs volume.
Volume: 140.105K Avg Volume: 200.181K
BUY POINT: $30.88 Volume=300K Target=$34.98 Stop=$30.55
POSITION: KQD HF - Aug. $30c (58 delta) &/or Stock

POST-SPLIT PLAYS:

Play Date: 04/09/2005
PIXR (Pixar--$47.44; +1.94; optionable): Computer generated movies.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/pixr.html
After Hours: $47.44
STATUS: Did not give us the run heading into the split, falling through the 50 day EMA (46.54). It made a rapid recovery, however, blasting back up through that key level Thursday on rising, above average volume. Just missed moving back through the 18 day EMA on the close (47.52). Looking to move in on a further break higher through the 18 day EMA.
Volume: 1.028M Avg Volume: 1.157M
BUY POINT: $47.65 Volume=600K Target=$53.85 Stop=$46.18
