Best Plays:
1) OII: Breaking to a new all-time high.
2) PPDI: Very nice breakout test.
3) EMKR: Testing the previous break higher, holding at the 10 day EMA.
4) THQI: Ready to continue the breakout move.
5) RIG: Good reach lower to test the 18 day EMA and rebounding.

NEW PLAYS:

Upside:

Play Date: 07/27/2005
ATVI (Activision--$19.2; +0.81; optionable): Graphics software/multimedia
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/atvi.html
Earnings: 7-28-05 after the close
After Hours: $19.14
STATUS: Reverse head and shoulders breakout. Volume jumped Wednesday as ATVI rallied to the breakout from its 22 week base that formed using the 50 day EMA (17.18) as support. Solid 8 to 4 accumulation in the base (8 up price weeks on rising volume to 4 down price weeks on rising volume) shows plenty of buying, setting up the breakout and run. Earnings out after the close Thursday making this more aggressive to buy into on a continued move higher. Looking to take a partial position on a continued move and then on a test after earnings are released.

OII (Oceaneering Intl.--$42.40; +1.01; optionable): Oil and gas drilling
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/o/oii.html
STATUS: Reverse head and shoulders breakout. OII is starting higher out of a 21 week accumulation pattern, making a new closing high. Outstanding 7 to 1 accumulation shows heavy buying during the base. All OII needs to show us now is some more volume on this move higher. Money flow is surging, ready to breakout with relative strength. Looks very strong. Again, just need some volume.
Volume: 199K Avg Volume: 256.989K
BUY POINT: $42.75 Volume=385K Target=$48 Stop=$51.05

PPDI (Pharmaceutical Product Dev.--$56.77; -0.21; optionable): Medical labs
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/ppdi.html
Earnings: Released 7-13-05
After Hours: $56.80
STATUS: Test breakout. PPDI exploded higher 7-13 on news it beat earnings estimates and upped Q3 and Q4. The move broke it out of a 13 week base on some very strong volume. After rallying to 60 it has pulled back the past week to test the 10 day EMA (56.66), moving lower on declining volume. Strong money flow has surged ahead of the price and is holding well on the test. Looking for PPDI to turn back up from here and continue the breakout move.
Volume: 430.378K Avg Volume: 364.662K
BUY POINT: $57.31 Volume=547K Target=$64.48 Stop=$56.35
POSITION: PJQ AK - Jan. $55c (62 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 07/27/2005
REV (Revlon--$3.53; +0.20; no options): Make-up and personal products
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/r/rev.html
Earnings: Early August.
STATUS: Cup w/handle breakout. Strong volume Wednesday as REV started the breakout move from its 15 week base. Solid pattern coming off a long downtrend, REV finally broke back through the 200 day SMA (2.66) in March. That was a key turning point in REV's pattern. After rallying off the 200 day it formed the current base. Accumulation has continued with strong 6 to 1 buying (6 up price weeks on rising volume to 1 down price weeks on rising volume) setting up this move. Great volume and looking for it to continue the move for our buy.
Volume: 1.902M Avg Volume: 907.111K
BUY POINT: $3.61 Volume=1M Target=$4.38 Stop=$3.36
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

CONTINUING PLAYS

Upside:

New buy points: Love to enter proven winners when they make pullbacks to test strong moves.

Play Date: 07/18/2005
EMKR (Emcore--$5.04; -0.07; no options): Semiconductor integrated circuits
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/e/emkr.html
After Hours: $5.04
STATUS: Breakout test. GNSS formed a 5 month base that broke out in May. It is making its second test of that breakout move, coming back to the 10 day EMA (4.96) after a strong volume run up through last week. Volume has fallen below average the past three session on the test, showing few sellers. Looking for volume to kick back in as EMKR rallied off of this level to give us a new entry point.
Volume: 291.083K Avg Volume: 342.375K
BUY POINT: New: $5.22 (orig. positions: $4.97) Volume=450K Target=$6.34 Stop=$4.99
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Play Date: 07/11/2005
GNSS (Genesis Microchip--$24.10; +0.16; optionable): Semiconductor integrated circuits
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/g/gnss.html
After Hours: $24.50
STATUS: Breakout test. Another semiconductor that shot higher out of a large 19 month base, gapping higher last Friday, rallying to near 26. It has come back this week on lower trade, still holding way above even the 10 day EMA (22.46). It may come back some more to test, but we want to be ready to move in if volume kicks back in and GNSS rallies higher from here. Using the semiconductor overall pullback to consolidate and set up the next move.
Volume: 889.889K Avg Volume: 935.895K
BUY POINT: New: 24.57 (orig. $20.81) Volume=1M Target=$28.85 (orig. positions: $24.82) Stop=$23.97
POSITION: QFE LX - Dec. $22.50c (65 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 07/01/2005
THQI (THQ, Inc.--$34.30; +0.92; optionable): Multimedia Graphics & software
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/t/thqi.html
STATUS: Flying plateau. After a nice move to start the month that broke THQI out of its 15 week cup with handle base, THQI looks ready to continue higher. It moved laterally the past two weeks over the 10 day EMA (33.41) on low volume, consolidating to set up the next break higher. Wednesday it moved up out of the plateau on strong, above average volume. Ready to move in on a continued break higher.
Volume: 798.633K Avg Volume: 704.303K
BUY POINT: $34.42 (orig. positions $31.88) Volume=970K Target=$40.32 Stop=$32.98
POSITION: QHI LG - Dec. $35c (50 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 07/20/2005
PMTI (Palomar Medical Tech--$27.22; -0.13; optionable): Medical Appliances
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/pmti.html
Earnings: 7-28-05
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Volume started higher Wednesday as PMTI held in a very tight range over the 10 day EMA (27.00). Earnings are out Thursday, and we are looking for that to provide the catalyst for a breakout from its nice base. To recap: Still working laterally, forming the handle as the 10 day EMA has risen to meet it. A tight two week lateral move has set up the handle to a 19 week base that is ready to send PMTI to an 8 year high. Tried to make the move Tuesday with a high volume surge but could not hold the gain. Positive 4 to 3 accumulation shows net buying, setting the stage for the breakout. Looking for volume to return as it makes the next break higher.
Volume: 190.61K Avg Volume: 232.77K
BUY POINT: $27.95 Volume=390K Target=$32 Stop=$26.34
POSITION: HKQ KE - Nov. $25c (65 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 07/25/2005
RIG (Transocean--$57.38; -0.37; optionable): Oil and gas drilling and exploration
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/r/rig.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Big volume Wednesday as RIG reached down to the 18 day EMA (56.37) on the low and then rebounded for a modest loss, managing to hold the 10 day EMA (56.94) on the close. Shaking out the last sellers and rebounding, setting up the next run higher in the breakout move To recap: Volume has surged as RIG moved higher Friday, resuming the breakout after a 5 week lateral trading range from 54 to 58. This followed the breakout from a 9 week double bottom with handle. Strong 5 to 2 accumulation in the pattern shows plenty of buying, setting up the breakout and the subsequent run. Looking for continued volume as RIG moves higher, following its strong money flow.
Volume: 5.527M Avg Volume: 4.317M
BUY POINT: $58.75 Volume=4.6M Target=$66.44 Stop=$56.35
POSITION: RIG KK - Nov. $55c (67 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 07/14/2005
SONO (Sonosite--$33.98; +0.19; optionable): Medical instruments
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/sono.html
After Hours: $33.98
Earnings: 7-28-05 after the close
STATUS: Breakout test. Volume surged to just above average Wednesday as SONOS tested and came off of the 18 day EMA (33.37). It is still in the pullback from the early July break higher that immediately turned down and started to form another handle. The volume is getting there. Earnings are out Thursday and we will see if that can give SONO the kick in the pants it needs to resume the breakout move. To recap: SONO broke out in early July, moving out of its 7 month reverse head and shoulders base. It rallied to 35 on the move and has faded back the past three sessions on lower and lower below average volume, holding the 18 day EMA on the close. Great position to continue the move higher. Strong 7 to 4 accumulation in the base set up the breakout, and this test gives us a good entry point when the stock starts back up on rising volume.
Volume: 111.183K Avg Volume: 112.477K
BUY POINT: $34.45 Volume=175K Target=$38.55 Stop=$32.98
POSITION: UZS LG - Dec. $35c (48 delta) &/or Stock
