THE PLAYS

Good movers: CMVT; ELOS; GLW; GOLD; NOVA

Tuesday night play results
AHG: Nope. Gapped lower to the 50 day EMA.
ATMI: Still hugging the 18 day EMA on the test.
GOLD: Strong move on strong volume.

New Plays:

Play Date: 08/03/2005
AVN (Avanir Pharma--$3.24; -0.05; no options): Drugs
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/avn.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. AVN has spent 2005 forming this 7 month base. Strong 7 to 4 accumulation in the pattern shows net buying and has set the foundation for the breakout and run higher. Money flow is another indication of buying, and it is running sharply higher ahead of the price. That positive divergence often leads the move in the price. Nice low, low volume test of the 18 day EMA (3.21) has set the breakout move. Now just being patient and letting AVN show us the high volume break through the buy point.
Volume: 177.3K Avg Volume: 447.617K
BUY POINT: $3.45 Volume=671K Target=$4.15 Stop=$3.21
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Play Date: 08/03/2005
HXL (Hexcel--$18.21; +0.52; optionable): Composites for use in aerospace, space, defense industries.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/h/hxl.html
After Hours: $18.10
STATUS: Ascending triangle. Strong volume Wednesday as HXL started toward the breakout from its 9 month base that formed using the 50 and 200 day SMA (16.92, 16.01) on the lows as support. Very strong 13 to 6 accumulation in the base shows net buying as it formed up. Plenty of buying and strong money flow leading higher. Looks ready to make the breakout to a 6.5 year high.
Volume: 934.9K Avg Volume: 307.288K
BUY POINT: $18.42 Volume=450K Target=$22.12 Stop=$17.32
POSITION: HXL LW - Dec. $17.50c (51 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 08/03/2005
SJR (Shaw Communications--$21.5; +0.7; no options): Cable television, internet, satellite in US & Canada.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/sjr.html
STATUS: Ascending base. A sweet 16 week base has formed at the 50 day EMA (20.61) as SJR prepares for a run at its all-time high at 29.50 set back in early 2000. Excellent 9 to 2 accumulation in the base shows the buyers really moving in. Money flow is surging higher as well. A good quarter reported last week and Wednesday SJR started higher on tremendous trade; looks ready to make the try for that high.
Volume: 945.5K Avg Volume: 126.175K
BUY POINT: $21.68 Volume=225K Target=$24.95 Stop=$20.84
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

SUBSCRIBER PORTFOLIO: These are stocks subscribers suggest by vote that we put in a portfolio to track and move into the stocks if they perform well. If you have any suggestions for additions or deletions, email us. We don't cover them all each report, just when something interesting is developing.

AAPL, CELG, BLUD, BR, COH, HW, PSYS, RTSX, STN

COH: Not a bad recovery, retaking the 10 day EMA on lower but still nice above average volume.

PSYS: High volume dump below the 18 day EMA after a low volume run at the early July high. Needs to hold 46 where the 50 day EMA resides.

RTSX: Volume fell back Wednesday as RTSX moved higher off the 50 day EMA. A bit more volume and it will be ready.

SUBSCRIBER WATCHLIST

We continually receive ideas for potential plays from subscribers. Many times they are already on our watchlists, other times not. We always take a look and sometimes find a gem or two, or more. We don't necessarily endorse these, but want to provide a forum for subscribers with ideas that may appeal to other subscribers. We may just put on the ticker or we might describe our thoughts as to why or why not we think it is a buy or sell. This is a way we can all learn a bit more and maybe find a few more candidates to make us some good money.

OMR: Exploration and recovery of archaeologically-sensitive deep water shipwrecks. This company is 9 years old and has formed a long 16 month cup base. It broke higher in May and has rallied up the 10 day EMA, making 4 to 5 bounces up that near support level. That menas it is close to being ready for a deeper test toward the 50 day EMA. When it makes that move and then rebounds off that level on volume that is the next entry point.

AMT: Broke out in late June and rallied to 22. It formed a 3 week flying plateau and shot higher. A quick test the past three session and then a jump higher on volume Wednesday, moving off the 10 day EMA. Looks strong.
