THE PLAYS
Good movers: ADSK; AMED; GYI
Wednesday night play results:
AMT: Nice volume surge with a doji tapping the 18 day EMA on the low
MCHP: Nice doji above the 50 day EMA.
MSCC: Sold back some to test the Wednesday move, coming in on lower volume.
VAS: Doji on low volume over the 18 day EMA.
New Plays:
Upside:
Play Date: 08/18/2005
JAH (Jarden--$37.43; +1.07; optionable): Branded consumables.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/j/jah.html
After Hours: $37.52
STATUS: 50 day EMA test. Volume jumped above average Thursday as JAH jumped off the 50 day EMA (36.30). That is exactly what you want to see, volume off the 50 day. Even though it is in the consumer products arena JAH looks solid with money flow leading higher. It needed a breather after its split, and this pullback where it has hugged the 50 day for the past two weeks has given it that. Looking to move in as it continues higher on solid trade.

MOBE (Mobility Electronics--$10.62; -0.14; optionable): PC products to enhance mobile computing
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/mobe.html
STATUS: Breakout test. MOBE exploded out of a big 21 month cup with handle base in to end July. It has spent the past 3 weeks pulling back to test the move, holding the 18 day EMA (10.59) on the low volume pullback. Solid 21 to 13 accumulation in the long base (21 up price weeks on rising volume to 13 down price weeks on rising volume) shows net buying, a big foundation for a run higher. Looking for strong volume to return as MOBE breaks higher after this test, following the strong money flow higher.

VIVO (Meridian Biosciences--$25.13; -0.37; optionable): Diagnostic substances. Splits 3:2 on 9-6-05.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/v/vivo.html
STATUS: Test 18 day EMA. VIVO broke out of a 6.5 month base in June and has run up the 18 day EMA (24.37). It is making one of those periodic test of that support. Volume has swelled the past week as it crouches before the next move. Big volume spike Wednesday on an upside day. Looking for a solid volume session with a strong break higher.

Continuing plays ready to move:
Play Date: 08/13/2005
ANX (Adventrx Pharmaceuticals--$3.58; +0.16; no options): Biotechnology
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/anx.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Looking very nice as it moves above the 10 day EMA (3.44), continuing its two week lateral move that is setting up the continued run after the early August breakout. Just looking for another volume upside session as it moves out of this lateral test. To recap: ANX was a new issue in August 2004, and rallied well in March and April before peaking and forming a 14 week double bottom with handle base. It broke out on strong volume to start this month, and has spent the past week coming back to test the move, showing good price/volume action. Solid 3 to 1 accumulation in the base (3 up price weeks on rising volume to 1 down price weeks on rising volume) show solid buying that set up the breakout. Strong money flow continues to lead higher, and we are ready to move in as ANX continues the breakout.
Volume: 272.5K Avg Volume: 432.468K

AMT (American Tower--$22.75; +0.04; optionable): Telecom towers
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/amt.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Volume surged Thursday as AMT showed a tight doji, tapping the 18 day EMA (22.45) on the low and rebounding. That volume shot is telling us to 'get ready.' To recap: Broke out in late June from a 15 week cup with handle and has rallied well. This is AMT's second deeper test of the break higher, and instead of a pullback to the 50 day EMA down at 21.20 it has formed a lateral range over the 18 day EMA and below 23. Excellent strength by this leader in a selling market, holding its gains while the market does not. It is set up well to continue the break higher.
Volume: 7.068M Avg Volume: 3.4M
BUY POINT: $23.38 Volume=5.1M Target=$26.88 Stop=$22.31
POSITION: AMT AX - Jan. $22.50c (59 delta) &/or Stock
