THE PLAYS
Good movers: ADSK; AMED; GYI; RMD; GMR
New Pre-Split Plays:
Play Date: 08/18/2005
VIVO (Meridian Biosciences--$25.13; -0.37; optionable): Diagnostic substances. Splits 3:2 on 9-6-05.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/v/vivo.html
STATUS: Test 18 day EMA. VIVO broke out of a 6.5 month base in June and has run up the 18 day EMA (24.37). It is making one of those periodic test of that support. Volume has swelled the past week as it crouches before the next move. Big volume spike Wednesday on an upside day. Looking for a solid volume session with a strong break higher.
Volume: 159.662K Avg Volume: 124.855K
BUY POINT: $25.65 Volume=187K Target=$30.75 Stop=$24.22
POSITION: ZUG AE - Jan. $25c (53 delta) &/or Stock

New Post-Split Plays:
Play Date: 08/18/2005
JAH (Jarden--$37.43; +1.07; optionable): Branded consumables.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/j/jah.html
After Hours: $37.52
STATUS: 50 day EMA test. Volume jumped above average Thursday as JAH jumped off the 50 day EMA (36.30). That is exactly what you want to see, volume off the 50 day. Even though it is in the consumer products arena JAH looks solid with money flow leading higher. It needed a breather after its split, and this pullback where it has hugged the 50 day for the past two weeks has given it that. Looking to move in as it continues higher on solid trade.
Volume: 878.6K Avg Volume: 639.492K
BUY POINT: $37.88 Volume=959K Target=$43.68 Stop=$36.25
POSITION: JEP AX - Jan. $36.62c (62 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 08/18/2005
TEVA (Teva Pharmaceutical--$33.39; +0.2; optionable): Drugs
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/t/teva.html
After Hours: $33.39
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Volume has jumped back above average the past two sessions as TEVA tries the breakout from its 11 week base that formed using the 200 day SMA (30.31) on the bottom of the pattern. This comes after a November 2004 to May rally and the stock needed a breather. Excellent volume surge the past month as it built the right side of the base and then backing off as it formed the handle the past two weeks. Ready to follow the strong money flow higher.
Volume: 6.574M Avg Volume: 4.691M
BUY POINT: $33.68 Volume=7M Target=$38.75 Stop=$32.35
POSITION: TVQ LZ - Dec. $32.50c (61 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/teva.html
Continuing Leader Play: New buy point on a current play.
Play Date: 07/23/2005
AMED (Amedisys--$41.63; +0.98; optionable): Home Health Care
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/amed.html
After Hours: $41.68
STATUS: Breakout test. AMED has made the second test of its late June breakout from a 7.5 month base, coming back to the 18 day EMA (40.68) this month on low, below average volume. It held and then volume surged Thursday as AMED moved off of that level; the 18 day EMA typically acts as support for strong stocks as they run higher after their breakouts. Relative strength broke out Thursday as AMED jumped off the 18 day EMA on that strong volume. Ready for the next buy as we average up into a strong leader.
Volume: 589.49K Avg Volume: 422.418K
BUY POINT: New: $41.87 (orig. $39.48) Volume=500K Target=$46.98 Stop=$39.99
POSITION: CQW LH - Dec. $40c (59 delta) &/or Stock

PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS
Current Pre-Announcement Plays: This is a list of stocks we are looking to announce splits. We are not in all of the potential splits plays but are letting them set up for the next move. In each report we look at the candidates that are in the best patterns ahead of their potential announcements. This focus on leaders in good patterns allows us to make good money even if companies do not announce the split. The key with splits is the pattern.
ANSI: Researching to pinpoint the date.
APA: Forecast 9-9-05.
CETV: Tentatively forecast in mid-October.
CHTT: Forecast 9-19-05 after the close. Trying to recover the 50 day EMA but not much luck. The pattern is telegraphing less than good results.
CWTR: Researching to pinpoint the date. Split in March so this is a bit of a wildcard.
DNA: Researching next split date.
GYI: Nice volume as the stock jumped up after the pullback.
IEX: Researching to pinpoint date.
KMG: Has tested back to the 18 day EMA but holding up much better than many of the oil and gas stocks.
LM: Did not announce on 7-21-05 but a strong stock. Researching the next date.
MRVL: Forecast to announce 8-18-05 after the close. No announcement yet but nice earnings sent it higher after the close.
NX: Forecast 8-25-05. Trying to hold the 50 day EMA. May give us an opportunity off this level.
PLCE: Forecast 8-18-05. One of the retailers that lowered guidance, and with that it was not going to announce. Never gave us the move we wanted to see.
TECH: No split announcement but enjoying a nice move higher.
WC: No announcement 8-3-05 and researching next date.
Full Write-ups: We do not cover all candidates in full in each report, but focus on those ready to make a move or are right at their forecast announcement date. This way we are focused on those stocks ready to make moves.
New Pre-Announcement Plays:
Play Date: 08/18/2005
WWY (William Wrigley Jr.--$72; +0.62; optionable): Confections. No split announced w/July earnings. Likes to announce near year end but this pattern is too good to wait.
BACKGROUND: Last split 2:1 in March 2001 at $88.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/w/wwy.html
STATUS: Breakout test. WWY has formed a nice three week flying plateau above the 18 day EMA (71.25), consolidating the late July breakout (on earnings) from a 24 week double bottom with handle of sorts. Solid 8 to 6 accumulation in the base (8 up price weeks on rising volume to 6 down price weeks on rising volume) has set up the breakout and run. Volume jumped Thursday on rising, above average volume as WWY headed toward the top of the recent range. Good money flow leading as well. Looking for the breakout on volume to give us the entry point.
Volume: 631K Avg Volume: 538.469K
BUY POINT: $72.38 Volume=808K Target=$81.44 Stop=$70.95
POSITION: WWY LN - Dec. $70c (61 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/wwy.html
Continuing Pre-Announcement Plays:
Play Date: 08/09/2005
ANSI (Advanced Neuromo--$50.12; -0.09; optionable): Medical instruments. Researching next date.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 3:2 split on 6-6-03 at $48.90.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/ansi.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Very low volume continues as ANSI shows another doji above the 10 day EMA (49.51) in its test of the big late July breakout on strong earnings. It has not sold back with the market, being stingy with its gains as a good leader should. Waiting for the high volume break higher. To recap: ANSI exploded higher in late July on a superb earnings report, rallying over 10 points on that move. Great breakout from a 6 month cup with handle base sporting excellent 8 to 3 accumulation (8 up price weeks on rising volume to 3 down price weeks on rising volume). That shows a lot of buying that set up the breakout and the run higher. Very good test back on low volume, holding near the 10 day EMA.
Volume: 157.423K Avg Volume: 437.366K
BUY POINT: New: $50.86 (orig. $49.75) Volume=600K Target=$59.95 Stop=$48.18
POSITION: UAI KJ - Nov. $50c (51 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 08/17/2005
LLL (L-3 Communications--$79.41; -0.59; optionable): Intelligence, surveillance, recon systems and secure communications systems for government and other clients
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 2:1 split 4-32-02 at $125. A bit low in price, but hard to beat the breakout that looks to be forming up.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/l/lll.html
After Hours: $79.32
STATUS: Test breakout. Eased back on lower volume Thursday, easily holding above the 10 day EMA (78.87). Looks ready but needs to show us the volume. To recap: LLL jumped out of a 7 month double bottom with handle in late July, rallied to 80, and then fell into the current lateral 4 week move above the 18 day EMA (78.37) on low volume after the nice volume breakout. Relative strength is making the breakout, a good sign of the stock's strength in the market. Nice 8 to 5 accumulation in the prior base (8 up price weeks on rising volume to 5 down price weeks on rising volume) shows net accumulation of the stock during the base. Looking for some more volume as LLL continues the move higher.
Volume: 494.4K Avg Volume: 929.748K
BUY POINT: $80.38 Volume=1.2M Target=$90.45 Stop=$78.58
POSITION: LLL AP - Jan. $80c (56 delta) &/or Stock

CONTINUING PRE-SPLIT PLAYS:
Play Date: 07/30/2005
DADE (Dade Behring Holdings--$73.02; -0.48; optionable): Diagnostic substances
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/dade.html
STATUS: Breakout test. After exploding higher in late July on great earnings. DADE has used the market pullback to come back itself, testing back to the 18 day EMA (72.75) on low, below average volume. Lateral move for the past 2 weeks at this near support for breakout moves. Looking for a bump in volume as it continues higher to give us an entry point.
Volume: 234.406K Avg Volume: 435.479K
BUY POINT: $73.66 Volume=500K Target=$79.98 Stop=$72.22
POSITION: JDQ KO - Nov. $75c (54 delta)

CONTINUING POST-SPLIT PLAYS:
Play Date: 08/12/2005
AAPL (Apple Computer--$46.3; -0.85; optionable): PC's and Ipod's
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/aapl.html
After Hours: $46.33
STATUS: Breakout test. Coming back to tap at the 10 day EMA (45.43) on the Thursday low on lower, below average volume. This move follows the sharp breakout last week from its 24 week cup with handle base that formed around the 50 day EMA. Very nice test of the breakout, using the market selling to make this low volume pullback. A rebound on strong volume proves up the breakout and shows buyers ready to move in once again. The first breakout test is one of our favorite entry points.
Volume: 15.802M Avg Volume: 18.012M
BUY POINT: New: $46.75 (orig. $46.01) Volume=29M Target=$53.55 Stop=$45.39
POSITION: QAA AI - Jan. $45c (59 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/aapl.html
Play Date: 08/04/2005
AMX (America Movil--$22.27; +0.30; optionable): Wireless communications
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/amx.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Volume jumped back above average Thursday as AMX gapped lower but rallied right back up, indicating buyers at the ready to drive this leader higher off of this test of the 18 day EMA (21.95) as AMX continues its run after the breakout. Ready to move in as it continues higher on solid trade. To recap: AMX has already made us some money and it is set up to make us some more. AMX broke out from a 14 week cup with handle base in mid-June and rallied up the 18 day EMA. The recent pullback to test the 18 day EMA has set up the next move, ready to follow the money flow higher.
Volume: 4.628M Avg Volume: 3.575M
BUY POINT: New: $22.55 (orig. $22.21) Volume=5M Target=$25.78 Stop=$21.54
POSITION: AMX KD - Nov. $20c (64 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/amx.html
Play Date: 08/17/2005
MSCC (Microsemi--$22.90; -0.48; optionable): Semiconductor integrated circuits
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/mscc.html
STATUS: Breakout test. After the strong volume move Wednesday, MSCC eased back on lower, average trade Thursday, tapping at the 10 day EMA (22.49) on the intraday low and then recouping some of its losses. This pullback is going to give us a better entry point. Just want to see it make the bounce back on rising trade. To recap: MSCC made us some money in its earlier move, and after pulling back to consolidate that move this month it has bolted higher Wednesday on strong, above average volume. This is the second big leg following the breakout from a 6 month double bottom with handle base in May and then a test of the 50 day EMA (21.27) in early July. Strong money flow is leading and a relative strength breakout gives the move good corroboration.
Volume: 829.356K Avg Volume: 881.88K
BUY POINT: New: $23.22 (orig. $23.54) Volume=900K Target=$27 Stop=$22.29
POSITION: QMS LX - Dec. $22.50c (60 delta) &/or Stock
