THE PLAYS

Good moves: ANX; BTUI; FIC; JOSB; TINY

Monday night play results
BTUI: Surging on strong volume.
DGIN: Surged higher on volume but could not hold the move.
SMH: Holding at the 10 day EMA, still poised to make the move.

New Plays:

Upside:

Play Date: 08/23/2005
CDN (Cadence Design Systems--$15.89; +0.25; optionable): Electronic design automation
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/cdn.html
STATUS: Breakout test. CDN broke sharply higher in late July on strong earnings, jumping out of a 20 week base sporting strong 4 to 1 accumulation (4 up price weeks on rising volume to 1 down price weeks on rising volume). A nice, low volume test the past three weeks took it back to the 18 day EMA (15.46) where it bumped along and consolidated the move. Tuesday volume surged as CDN moved up off the 18 day. Money flow is great, matching the accumulation. Relative strength broke out as well, another very good sign the continued breakout move is solid. Ready to move in as the stocks continues its move.
Volume: 2.866M Avg Volume: 1.259M
BUY POINT: $16.05 Volume=1.5M Target=$18.48 Stop=$15.44
POSITION: CDN AC - Jan. $15c (63 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 08/23/2005
MOT (Motorola--$21.26; +0.35; optionable): Telecom equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/mot.html
After Hours: $21.28
STATUS: Test 50 day EMA. Nice move in July to early August as MOT made its run after the breakout from its 13 month base. It rallied up the 10 day EMA (21) and peaked early this month and made its first serious test of the breakout. It came back toward the 50 day EMA (19.96), but it turned back up before it fully tested that level; we view that as a sign of strength. Volume started to kick higher Tuesday as MOT cleared the 10 and 18 day EMA and held near the high on the close. A leader in this rally that is starting to lead higher. Ready to stat new positions on a continued volume move higher.
Volume: 13.952M Avg Volume: 16.698M
BUY POINT: $21.42 Volume=20M Target=$24.78 Stop=$20.84
POSITION: MOT AD - Jan. $20c (68 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 08/23/2005
RTSX (Radiation Therapy--$27; +0.85; no options): Medical practitioners
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/r/rtsx.html
After Hours: $27.02
STATUS: Flat base. You an call this a flat reverse head and shoulders if you want, but either way a nice 9 week base has formed using the 50 day EMA (25.82) as support. Strong volume surge Tuesday as RTSX moved off the 50 day. Positive accumulation and strong money flow are helping set the stage. Want to see more strong volume as RTSX clears the early August highs (27.50).
Volume: 339.58K Avg Volume: 181.723K
BUY POINT: $27.61 Volume=245K Target=$32.88 Stop=$26.22
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Continuing still ready to move: Taking another look at AAPL

Play Date: 08/12/2005
AAPL (Apple Computer--$45.74; -0.13; optionable): PC's and Ipod's
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/aapl.html
After Hours: $45.74
STATUS: Breakout test. Nice doji Tuesday as AAPL holds the 10 day EMA (45.60) on very low, below average volume, continuing the test of the breakout from last week. This indicates the pullback is likely over, and looking for a rebound here on some rising volume. To recap: Coming back to tap at the 10 day EMA on lower, below average volume. This move follows the sharp breakout a week back from its 24 week cup with handle base that formed around the 50 day EMA. Very nice test of the breakout, using the market selling to make this low volume pullback. A rebound on strong volume proves up the breakout and shows buyers ready to move in once again. The first breakout test is one of our favorite entry points.
Volume: 10.52M Avg Volume: 17.588M
BUY POINT: New: $46.38 (orig. $46.01) Volume=29M Target=$53.55 Stop=$45.39
POSITION: QAA AI - Jan. $45c (59 delta) &/or Stock

SUBSCRIBER PORTFOLIO: These are stocks subscribers suggest by vote that we put in a portfolio to track and move into the stocks if they perform well. If you have any suggestions for additions or deletions, email us. We don't cover them all each report, just when something interesting is developing.

AAPL, CELG, BLUD, BR, COH, HW, PSYS, RTSX, STN

HW: Trying to make a stand at the 50 day EMA after gapping lower last week.

BLUD: Forming a new base, and looks to be just over half way there.

BR: Good recovery and holding the 10 day EMA.

SUBSCRIBER WATCHLIST

We continually receive ideas for potential plays from subscribers. Many times they are already on our watchlists, other times not. We always take a look and sometimes find a gem or two, or more. We don't necessarily endorse these, but want to provide a forum for subscribers with ideas that may appeal to other subscribers. We may just put on the ticker or we might describe our thoughts as to why or why not we think it is a buy or sell. This is a way we can all learn a bit more and maybe find a few more candidates to make us some good money.

Upside:

STO: Independent oil and gas stock that broke out in June from a 12 week base and has rallied up the 18 day EMA. It has just made its third test of that level, rebounding but on lower volume. Stocks typically get 4 to 5 such bounces in a strong market.
