THE PLAYS

Good movers: ELOS; NEM

Tuesday night play results:
SOX: Faded back but still ready to continue the move.
NEM: Gapped higher on volume and rallied, falling back off the high to close.
UPL: Still forming up nicely.
HYSL: Nope. Thudded lower to the 18 day EMA.

New Plays:

Upside:

Play Date: 12/07/2005
CNQR (Concur Technologies--$13.01; +0.13; optionable): Software to automate management of corporate expenses
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/cnqr.html
After Hours: $13.03
STATUS: Reverse head and shoulders. Short 7 week base has set up bracketing the 50 day EMA (12.63) as CNQR prepares for a breakout to a 5.5 year high. Strong 4 to 1 accumulation (4 up price weeks on rising volume to 1 down price weeks on rising volume) is setting up that breakout. Volume jumped back above average Wednesday as CNQR found some footing at the 10 day EMA (12.89). This follows a couple of other good volume spikes in the last week, showing good ongoing buying.
Volume: 324.01K Avg Volume: 270.197K
BUY POINT: $13.32 Volume=405K Target=$15.98 Stop=$12.59
POSITION: JCQ EV - May $12.50c (57 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 12/07/2005
CWTR (Coldwater Creek--$32.26; -0.23; optionable): Apparel retail.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/cwtr.html
After Hours: $32.02
STATUS: Breakout test. A market leader and a sector leader, CWTR is testing the late November breakout from a 12 week cup base, gapping higher on strong retail sales results. It has fully tested that move, coming back to the 10 day EMA (32.05) and holding that near support the past week. Volume has trickled off the past few sessions as CWTR continues the lateral move. Looking for volume to spike back up as CWTR makes its move. It has moved from catalog sales to successful retail outlets. It is only about one-fifth of where it wants to be store-wise over the next couple of years. It looks to have a lot of growth in front of it.
Volume: 344.096K Avg Volume: 754.08K
BUY POINT: $32.95 Volume=1M Target=$39.85 Stop=$31.89
POSITION: UCJ DF - Apr. $30c (65 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 12/07/2005
GENZ (Genzyme--$73.8; +0.18; optionable): Biotech
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/g/genz.html
After Hours: $72.89
STATUS: Test 50 day EMA. Taking another run at GENZ. It broke out from a double bottom base in early November but then ran into immediate trouble, gapping lower. It managed to hold the 50 day EMA (73.23) and rallied on up to 78. From there it has pulled back the past 3 weeks, once more coming back to the 50 day EMA. Wednesday it showed a hammer doji at that level, reaching through on the low and recovering by the close. Volume rose, moving close to average. Looking for a move over the 18 day EMA (74.57) on strong trade as the point to start the position.
Volume: 2.095M Avg Volume: 2.187M
BUY POINT: $74.72 Volume=3M Target=$84 Stop=$73.05
POSITION: GAA DO - Apr. $75c (51 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 12/07/2005
NWRE (Neoware--$22.08; -0.29; optionable): Networking and communication
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/n/nwre.html
STATUS: Flying plateau. One of the market leaders in terms of fundamentals and technical strength. NWRE broke out from a long, 26 month cup with handle base in late October, and has been rallying up the 10 day EMA (21.86) since. The past two weeks it has sidled in a flat range along the 10 day, moving on very low volume. Similar to the market it is not giving up its gains. Looking for a strong break higher from this sideways move to start the play.
Volume: 207.42K Avg Volume: 468.046K
BUY POINT: $22.65 Volume=525K Target=$26.55 Stop=$21.65
POSITION: QQA CX - Mar. $22.50c (53 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/ci/nwre.html

Play Date: 12/07/2005
SMSC (Standard Microsystems--$31.93; -0.36; no options): Semiconductor equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/smsc.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Nice blast higher to start the month, moving SMSC out of a 10 week ascending base that formed making higher lows along the 50 day EMA (29.07). Strong money flow and positive accumulation provide a good foundation. It has spent the past four sessions easing sideways and slightly lower, holding most of its breakout gain. May come back to fully test the 10 day EMA (31.28) before starting back up. It is a top rated, market leading stock, and if the market starts higher it is likely to turn back up from here. Either way we will be ready.
Volume: 151.216K Avg Volume: 273.439K
BUY POINT: $32.22 Volume=300K Target=$38 Stop=$31.05
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)
