ESRX (Express Scripts--$89.01; +0.34; optionable): Mail order prescriptions
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/e/esrx.html
After Hours: $89.09
STATUS: Flat base. ESRX made us a lot of money in its October to December run, and after that it needed a rest. The past 7 weeks it has moved laterally, mostly above the 18 day EMA (87.75) as it holds its gains and consolidates the move. Volume started higher Wednesday as ESRX moved up to test the top of the range at 90. Accumulation is a positive 2 to 0 and money flow is strong. Looking for a strong, above average volume move higher.
Volume: 1.597M Avg Volume: 2.206M
BUY POINT: $90.11 Volume=3.3M Target=$101.45 Stop=$87.21

KWK (Quicksilver Resources--$45.61; +1.80; optionable): Oil and gas
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/k/kwk.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Strong volume Thursday as KWK moved off the 50 day EMA (42.45) on the strongest volume in two months. It is heading toward the breakout from a 15 week base, following strong money flow higher. It formed this base after reaching a new high in early October, needing a consolidation to reset and set up the next rally. It is getting just that, and Thursday looks like the start of the next run. Want to see continued strong volume as KWK makes the breakout.
Volume: 2.349M Avg Volume: 1.224M
BUY POINT: $46.38 Volume=1.6M Target=$55 Stop=$43.55
POSITION: KWK FI - June $45c (56 delta) &/or Stock

VIVO (Meridian Biosciences--$23.59; -0.24; optionable): Diagnostic substances
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/v/vivo.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Volume jumped Thursday as VIVO showed a big hammer doji at the 10 day EMA (23.61). This follows the early January breakout from a 10 week cup with handle base, and the breakout took VIVO to a new all-time high. Solid pattern and a very good, orderly, tight test on low volume. Now VIVO looks set to follow the strong money flow higher.

All are good leadership quality stocks that can make us money if they show us the breakout moves.
This is a list of stocks we are looking to announce splits. We are not in all of the potential splits plays but are letting them set up for the next move. In each report we look at the candidates that are in the best patterns ahead of their potential announcements. RIO (Companhia Vale Do Rio Doce--$47.94; +1.90; optionable): Steel and iron. Researching to pinpoint an exact date.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/r/rio.html
BACKGROUND: Last split 3:1 on 9-7-04 at $57.
After Hours: $47.50
STATUS: Breakout test. Volume jumped Thursday as RIO resumed the breakout move from its 14 week ascending triangle. The breakout sent it to a new all-time high in its short, 4 year history in the market. Outstanding 8 to 2 accumulation in the base shows all buying, setting up a strong run. Relative strength is making the breakout along with stock, a very good indication of the breakout's strength. Looking to move into this leader as it continues higher on this solid move.
Volume: 3.824M Avg Volume: 2.549M

BACKGROUND: Last announced a 2:1 split on 4-16-01 at $49.60.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/ppdi.html
STATUS: Ascending triangle. PPDI is moving toward the breakout point from its 12 week pattern sporting strong 4 to 1 accumulation. It has used the 50 day EMA (61.21) as support to make higher and higher lows as PPDI below a constant top at 64. Volume has edged higher but we need to see a strong surge as it makes the breakout move.

Play Date: 01/03/2006
XTO (XTO Energy--$46.97; +0.39; optionable): Independent oil and gas. Forecast to announce 2-15-06
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 4:3 split 2-16-05 at $39.10. Before that a 5:4 split on 2-17-04 at 28.50. Before that a 4:3 split on 2-18-03 at 24.20. You get the picture.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/x/xto.html
After Hours: $47.25
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle. XTO has not garnered the volume the past week as it pushes toward an all-time high. Solid pattern, just needs to show us a breakaway move on strong trade. To recap: Nice handle formed using the 50 day EMA (44.31) as support. Moving toward the top of the handle but needs to show more volume as it makes a stronger move. Nice 14 week base sporting 5 to 3 accumulation with relative strength holding tight.

CONTINUING PRE-SPLIT PLAYS:
Play Date: 01/17/2006
CELG (Celgene--$68.58; +0.72; optionable): Drugs. Splits 2:1 on 2-27-06
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/celg.html
STATUS: Test 18 day EMA. CELG moved higher Thursday, but volume remained below average and it traded all over the map before settling for a low volume gain. Looking for a bit more strength to start the play. To recap: CELG broke out from a 6 week base in early December, rallying to 72 on the move. It has come back the past week to test, filling the gap higher from 6 sessions back. It has held the 18 day EMA (66.04) on the intraday lows the past week and rebounded. Strong leader with money flow moving higher ahead of price. We anticipate CELG is going to continues its run after this test.
Volume: 2.202M Avg Volume: 2.377M
BUY POINT: New: $68.78 (orig. $68.55) Volume=3.2M Target=$78.85 Stop=$65.48

TIE (Titanium Metals--$72.75; +0.28; optionable): Industrial metals. Splits 2:1 on 2-17-06.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/t/tie.html
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle. TIE looks to be quietly setting up for a big break higher. It is working laterally over the 18 day EMA (70.36) the past two weeks on mostly lower volume; the few volume spikes have the look of accumulation. Looking for a strong break higher to start the play. Very solid base and it is close to making its move.
Volume: 654K Avg Volume: 843.192K
BUY POINT: $73.89 Volume=1.2M Target=$84.95 Stop=$71.44
POSITION: TIE CO - Mar. $75c (50 delta) &/or Stock

CONTINUING POST-SPLIT PLAYS:
Play Date: 01/17/2006
CLZR (Canela--$15.70; -0.05; optionable): Medical appliances
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/clzr.html
STATUS: Test breakout. Still in the nice, orderly pullback to the near term support at the 10 and 18 day EMA (15.77, 15.51) on very low, below average volume. It is set up; now it just has to show us the volume rebound. To recap: CLZR shot higher the first week of January on very strong trade, breaking out from a 19 month cup with handle base, surging to 17 on the move. It has faded back on very low, below average volume, coming to rest on the 10 day EMA, showing nice dojis on the candlestick chart. Surging money flow is leading the way higher. Relative strength broke out on the price breakout, a good corroboration of the breakout's strength. Nice test and looking for strong volume as it surges back up.
Volume: 159.25K Avg Volume: 318.148K
BUY POINT: New: $16.38 (orig. $16.62) Volume=345K Target=$19.95 Stop=$15.64
POSITION: UKZ EC - May $15c (57 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 01/12/2006
QSII (Quality Systems--$83.25; +2.94; optionable): Healthcare information software
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/q/qsii.html
After Hours: $83.09
STATUS: Cup. Volume crept higher again Thursday, but was still below average as QSII tested 85 on the high and then faded into the close. Looking for continued volume as QSII makes the definitive move higher. To recap: A short but nice 8 week base has formed after a strong run as QSII sets up for a breakout to its next all-time high. It used the 50 day EMA (78.04) as the support for the pattern, an indication that the big money is hanging with it even as it rests. Positive accumulation in this pattern. The best in its sector with strong fundamentals to go with the pattern.
Volume: 255.32K Avg Volume: 276.762K
BUY POINT: New: $84.55 (orig. $81.25) Volume=414K Target=$95.45 Stop=$78.89
POSITION: QCR FQ - June $85c (55 delta) &/or stock
