THE PLAYS:

Good Movers: CELL; CLF; HAL; HOLX; NBR; SLB; SNDK; SU; UPL

New Post-Split Plays:

Play Date: 01/23/2006
SRZ (Sunrise Assisted Living--$35.51; -0.63; optionable): Long-term care facilities
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/srz.html
STATUS: Test 18 day EMA. SRZ formed a 6 week cup base over the 50 day EMA (34.32) and broke higher last week on strong trade. Solid 3 to 0 accumulation in the base (3 up price weeks on rising volume to 0 down price weeks on rising volume) shows all buying as SRZ takes a breather and sets up the next run as it continues its march up the 50 day EMA. Strong money flow complements the accumulation. It has come back to test the 18 day EMA (35.08) in the recent selling, holding near support and rebounding off that level Monday to close above the 10 day EMA. Good action and looking for SRZ to continue its upside move and deliver yet another breakout.

New Leader Play:

Play Date: 01/23/2006
DTAS (Digitas Inc.--$13.57; +0.57; optionable): Global marketing services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/dtas.html
After Hours: $13.56
STATUS: Test 50 day EMA. DTAS has moved to a 5 year high after the late November breakout from a 20 week base. It has made a series of hops up the 18 day EMA (13.40) then rallied to 14.50 in early January. If faded back on mostly lower volume and then volume spiked last week. It really jumped Monday as DTAS gapped higher and rallied through the 10 and 18 day EMA. Looking for this to continue as DTAS resumes the breakout move. Money flow is surging higher ahead of price, looking strong. Top marks in fundamentals to go along with the nice pattern.
Volume: 2.34M Avg Volume: 809.581K
BUY POINT: $13.71 Volume=1.2M Target=$16.57 Stop=$12.97

Continuing Post-Split Plays:

Play Date: 01/21/2006
GPN (Global Payments--$50.89; +0.79; optionable): Payment systems for international clients
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/g/gpn.html
STATUS: Flying plateau. Volume moved up nicely Monday, back above average as GPN probed higher off of the 10 day EMA (50.17). It hit 51.44 on the high but faded. Still looks good in the pattern, ready to make the move. To recap: GPN is working laterally in a tight range above the 10 day EMA, holding its gains to the late December breakout from a 7 week flat base. It has rallied up the 10 day EMA since with a big break higher in January. It got ahead of the 10 day and stalled out waiting for it to catch up. Volume jumped back up Thursday to average; in the Friday market selling volume dropped back well below average as GPN tested and held the 10 day. Strong market leader in fundamentals as well as technical pattern. Strong money flow is leading higher and relative strength has continued its breakout move. Minding its own business as the market sells, setting up for the next rally higher.
Volume: 838.4K Avg Volume: 729.848K
BUY POINT: $51.33 Volume=1.1M Target=$59.95 Stop=$49.68
POSITION: GPN EJ - May $50c (54 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/gpn.html

Play Date: 01/19/2006
VIVO (Meridian Biosciences--$24.32; +0.38; optionable): Diagnostic substances
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/v/vivo.html
After Hours: $24.32
STATUS: Breakout test. Volume jumped again Monday as VIVO gapped higher out of the blocks. It could not drive higher in the weak market action, but it looks very good as it continues to show excellent action in a sloppy market. Looking for a continued break higher Tuesday on continued solid trade. To recap: Volume jumped Thursday as VIVO showed a big hammer doji at the 10 day EMA and then dropped off Friday in the market selling; it is doing its own thing. This follows the early January breakout from a 10 week cup with handle base, and the breakout took VIVO to a new all-time high. Solid pattern and a very good, orderly, tight test on low volume. Now VIVO looks set to follow the strong money flow higher.
Volume: 373.493K Avg Volume: 280.795K
BUY POINT: New: $24.57 (orig. $24.25) Volume=400K Target=$28.95 Stop=$22.88
POSITION: ZUG DX - Apr. $22.50c (64 delta) &/or Stock
