2) BTUI: Starting higher on volume.

NEW PLAYS:

Upside plays:

Play Date: 01/28/2006
ABI (Applera Corp-Appliaed Biosystems--$28.93; +0.96; optionable): Technologies & products to support genomics research.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/abi.html
STATUS: Ascending base. Strong volume Friday as ABI broke out of an 8 week base that used the 50 day EMA (26.94) as support. Strong earnings the past week gave it the push to make the breakout. Strong 3 to 1 accumulation shows net buying, setting the foundation for the breakout run. Money flow is strong as well, surging higher ahead of price. Relative strength moving with the stock, a good confirmation of the breakout move. Looking to move in as ABI continues the break higher and then again on the first test.
Volume: 1.844M Avg Volume: 1.261M
BUY POINT: $29.18 Volume=1.4M Target=$33.95 Stop=$27.75
POSITION: ABI FF - June $30c (52 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 01/28/2006
BTUI (BTU International--$15.21; +0.95; no options): Chip equipment (thermal processing systems)
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/btui.html
After Hours: $15.19
Earnings: 2-15-06
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Recall INTC's and TXN's earnings reports; disappointing overall, but they both still planned to increase their chip production capacity. That can be a problem for the chip industry; historically when they expand capacity they saturate the market with chips. Before that, however, the sector enjoys gains. BTUI rallied from July to November, coming off the bottom of a 1.5 year base. It needed a breather and slipped into the current 10 week pattern, using the 50 day EMA (13.67) as support. Key level as it shows the big money stepping in to accumulate positions; the 50 day is where they tend to do it. Solid volume Friday as BTUI started the move. Looking for continued strong trade as BTUI makes the move through the early January high and gives us the breakout.

Play Date: 01/28/2006
RNOW (Rightnow Technologies--$20; +1.15; optionable): Customer relationship management software
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/r/rnow.html
After Hours: $19.99
Earnings: 1-30-06
STATUS: Cup w/ handle. RNOW was a new issue in August 2004. It rallied to a new high in November and then fell into the current 14 month base, a nicely formed pattern. The past 7 weeks it has moved laterally over the 18 day EMA (18.98), forming the handle to the base. 3 to 1 accumulation in the handle (3 up price weeks on rising volume to 1 down price weeks on rising volume) shows the buyers still accumulating positions. Money flow is strong and has started moving higher ahead of price. Relative strength is ready for the breakout with the price; showing good strength and when it does breakout with price it is a corroboration of that move. Good volume Friday as RNOW moved off the 18 day EMA. Looks ready for the breakout and a solid earnings report could do the trick.
Volume: 377.155K Avg Volume: 320.977K
BUY POINT: $20.38 Volume=481K Target=$24.48 Stop=$18.95
POSITION: QWC FD - June $20c (52 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 01/28/2006
SCUR (Secure Computing--$14.60; -0.24; optionable): Network security solutions
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/scur.html
Earnings: 2-2-06
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Stronger volume Friday as SCUR tried to extend Thursday's breakout from a short but nice 7 week base that formed using the 50 day EMA (13.41) as support. As we often note, that is an important support level where big buyers step in to add shares of the stocks they want to hold. SCUR held that and continued to form the base, showing outstanding 5 to 1 accumulation as it formed up. That shows plenty of buying as it consolidated and set up the next move. Money flow complements the accumulation, running higher ahead of price. Looking for SCUR to reload after the Friday fade and continue the breakout that started on Thursday.
Volume: 843.257K Avg Volume: 567.698K

New buy points on current positions:

Play Date: 01/28/2006
VSEA (Varian Semiconductor--$50.69; -2.31; optionable): Chip equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/v/vsea.html
After Hours: $50.82
STATUS: Breakout test. VSEA fell back to the 10 day EMA (49.82) Friday, gapping lower after earnings failed to totally please after a nice breakout and run higher put a little froth in the price. It held that near support, however, showing a hammer doji. This is just a pullback to test near support after a the early January breakout from its nice 19 week base. Looking for this support to hold with maybe another tap toward the 10 day EMA and then a rebound to continue the move and give us another entry point.
Volume: 2.201M Avg Volume: 900.008K

Play Date: 01/25/2006
CTXS (Citrix Systems--$31.47; +0.17; optionable): Internet access infrastructure software
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/ctxs.html
After Hours: $31.49
STATUS: Breakout test. CTXS is still primed for the move, holding over the 10 day EMA (31.07) on low, below average volume. Setting up for the breakout move; just needs to show the volume as it does. To recap: CTXS made us a nice gain already this month when it reported strong earnings and shot higher. It has come back to test that move, basically filling the gap as it has come back to rest on the 10 day EMA. Volume jumped last Wednesday as it made the test and showed a hammer doji. Looking for a continuation of the breakout run after this nice test.
Volume: 1.744M Avg Volume: 2.103M

CONTINUING PLAYS

Play Date: 01/21/2006
CRUS (Cirrus Logic--$8.26; -0.02; optionable): Semiconductors
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/crus.html
Earnings: 1-25-06 after the close
STATUS: Breakout test. Got a bit wild to end the week gapping lower Thursday after earnings but recovering to hold positive that day. Not a bad response, not a great response. Still holding a nice pattern and just waiting for it to show us the continued breakout move. To recap: CRUS broke higher two weeks back on some strong volume then gave back some of the move on expiration Friday as technology and chips sold back with the market. Still holding the breakout from its 21 week base sporting strong 8 to 4 accumulation (8 up price weeks on rising volume to 4 down price weeks on rising volume), showing plenty of buying during the base.
Volume: 1.084M Avg Volume: 809.978K
BUY POINT: New: $848 (orig. $8.39) Volume=1.2M Target=$10.49 Stop=$7.88
POSITION: CUQ FU - June $7.50c (72 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 01/19/2006
ORBK (Orbotech--$25.56; +0.57; optionable): Production support solutions for the supply chain of electronics
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/o/orbk.html
Earnings: 2-13-06
STATUS: Reverse head and shoulders. Tried the breakout two weeks back on strong volume but got pushed back on expiration. It consolidated on low volume last week and then jumped higher Friday on strong volume, moving off the 18 day EMA (25.01). Nicely formed 6 month base sporting solid 5 to 3 accumulation. Strong money flow is going hand in hand. Looking for the breakout this week.
Volume: 296.894K Avg Volume: 197.571K
BUY POINT: $26.35 Volume=250K Target=$30.95 Stop=$24.87
POSITION: OKQ GE - July $25c (57 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 01/21/2006
RCCC (Rural Cellular--$17.34; 0; no options): Wireless telecom
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/r/rccc.html
Earnings: Early February
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Still working laterally over the 10 day EMA (17.03), still forming the handle on low volume. Nice pattern so simply being patient and letting it finish up and show us the breakout. To recap: RCCC is working laterally in a tight range, holding the solid January move higher as the 10 day EMA rises to meet it. The move completed its 12 week base that formed using the 50 day EMA (15.45) as support; that shows its supporters stepping in at that level to bolster positions. After a four year slumber, RCCC has awakened. Strong 5 to 2 accumulation in the base shows plenty of buying. Like the way RCCC ignored the market selling, going about its own business Friday. Strong fundamentals to go with the pattern.
Volume: 57.05K Avg Volume: 87.146K
BUY POINT: $17.68 Volume=140K Target=$21.75 Stop=$16.44
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Play Date: 01/23/2006
ZIGO (Zygo--$17.02; +0.26; optionable): Semiconductor equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/z/zigo.html
Earnings: 1-26-06 after close
After Hours: $17.02
STATUS: Breakout test. Gapped higher Friday on some solid earnings, but it could not hold much of the move, fading back to flat on strong volume. Okay. Still a nice pattern and earnings were good. Looking to see if it can reload and show the breakout once again, this time making the move stick. To recap: ZIGO broke higher 2 weeks back on strong trade, moving out of a 14 week double bottom base that formed using the 50 day EMA (15.44) on the lows. In the recent selling ZIGO has moved laterally, holding its move, a sign of strength. Outstanding 5 to 0 accumulation shows all buying, setting ZIGO for the move higher.
