THE PLAYS:
New Pre-Split Plays:
Play Date: 02/02/2006
IMGC (Intermagnetics General--$40.75; +0.61; optionable): Superconducting materials, magnets, medical systems. Splits 3:2 on 2-22-06
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/i/imgc.html
After Hours: $40.81
STATUS: Test breakout. IMGC enjoyed a nice break higher with the market in mid-January, and has now come back to test that move, holding the 10 day EMA (39.94) Thursday after a three day pullback. It bounced on rising trade in a weak market. Strong market leader that broke out from a 12 month base in November. It tested the 50 day EMA after that breakout and is now running higher up the 10 day EMA. Looking to step in and capture some of that pre-split momentum as it continues higher off of this near support.
Volume: 401.644K Avg Volume: 300.787K
BUY POINT: $41.08 Volume=450K Target=$48.95 Stop=$39.71
POSITION: IMG GH - July $40c (57 delta) &/or Stock

SLB (Schlumberger--$122.12; -1.09; optionable): Oil & gas service company. Splits 2:1 on 4-10-06
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/slb.html
STATUS: Test 18 day EMA. Pulling back to test a solid move higher to end January. It tapped toward the 18 day EMA (118.48) on the Thursday intraday low (120.01) and rebounded to recoup the majority of the losses. Volume rallied as it did. Looking for SLB to hold this near support and resume the run up the 10 and 18 day EMA. When it shows a solid rebound we will add some positions. Can run like the wind when it gets started.
Volume: 7.421M Avg Volume: 5.754M

VSEA (Varian Semiconductor--$50.48; -0.66; optionable): Chip equipment. Splits 2:1 on 3-1-06
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/v/vsea.html
STATUS: Breakout test. VSEA is moving higher, working up the 18 day EMA (49.30) after the early January breakout from its 18 week reverse head and shoulders base. After a strong surge last week VSEA is testing the 10 and 18 day EMA, preparing for the next run higher. Looking to jump onto that rebound.

New Post-Split Plays:
Play Date: 02/02/2006
HRS (Harris Corp.--$46.65; -0.16; optionable): Telecom equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/h/hrs.html
STATUS: Flat base. HRS is working laterally the past four weeks, consolidating an early January break higher from a 4 month ascending base. After that initial move it slipped into this lateral range mostly holding the 18 day EMA (46.10) with a couple of taps down to the 50 day EMA (44.72) on an intraday basis. Solid money flow is still moving higher as the stock works laterally. Holding up very well in a weak market, weathering the storm nicely. A solid leader with strong fundamentals to match its technical pattern. Nice lower volume the past week; looking for volume to surge as HRS makes the break higher to continue the run.
Volume: 531K Avg Volume: 631.598K

New Buy Point on current Pre-Announcement play:
Play Date: 02/02/2006
HAL (Halliburton--$77.73; -1.23; optionable): Oil and gas service company
BACKGROUND: Last announced a split 6-10-97 at $80.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/h/hal.html
After Hours: $77.72
STATUS: Test breakout. Going back to the well on this one again, as it makes the second test of the 10 day EMA (76.82) following its mid-January break higher from a nicely formed 14 week base. Nice doji on the candlestick chart Thursday as HAL looks to have just about completed a three day pullback to test the strong late January move that saw it gap higher. Looking to move back in as HAL rebounds off this near support.
Volume: 10.39M Avg Volume: 7.235M
BUY POINT: $78.55 Volume=11M Target=$90 Stop=$76.54

Continuing Pre-Announcement Plays ready to move
Play Date: 01/28/2006
GVA (Granite Construction--$39.65; -0.67; optionable): Heavy construction. Forecast 2-15-06.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 3:2 split on 2-21-01 at $32.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/g/gva.html
STATUS: Breakout test. GVA ahs continued the breakout test, coming back to the 18 day EMA (39.42) on the intraday low and rebounding to cut some losses. Lower volume selling, indicating fewer sellers. Held the breakout. Needs to make the rebound here on strong trade to enter the play. To recap: It has been awhile but GVA has surpassed the prior split level for the first time, breaking out from an 18 week base last week on very strong trade. Nicely formed ascending base sporting solid 5 to 3 accumulation; net buying during the consolidation that set up the next breakout and run. After the strong move last Tuesday it stalled a bit but held its gains. Looking for it to continue higher from here and resume the breakout move. Solid money flow is leading, and relative strength broke out with the stock price, a good corroboration of its strength. Excellent fundamentals.

HOC (Holly Corp.--$69.65; -2.06; optionable): Oil and gas refining. Potential to announce a split 2-13-06 before the open.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 2:1 split on 8-2-04 at $39.50. Before that a 2:1 on 6-8-01 at 42.50.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/h/hoc.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Heading back to test the move the past two sessions, tapping at the 18 day EMA (68.20) on the Thursday low and rebounding to recoup some losses. May come back to test the 18 day EMA once more before ready to resume, but looks solid. To recap: Nice mid-January breakout from a solid 14 week ascending base sporting solid 5 to 3 accumulation. Used the 50 day EMA (64.17) as support for the base, a key level. Nice test and need to see a strong rebound on volume.

CONTINUING POST-SPLIT PLAYS:
Play Date: 01/31/2006
CHRW (C.H. Robinson Worldwide--$39.65; -0.1; optionable): Air delivery & freight
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/chrw.html
After Hours: $39.65
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle. Hammer doji at the 10 day EMA (39.37) as CHRW looks to have completed the handle to its nicely formed base. Just waiting for volume and the move through the buy point. Sweet pattern. To recap: CHRW has started a nice lateral move this week after a picture perfect 9 week base formed using the 50 day EMA (37.84) on the lows as support. Excellent 4 to 1 accumulation in the pattern (4 up price weeks on rising volume to 1 down price weeks on rising volume) has set up the breakout to a new all-time high. Great pattern and great fundamentals.
Volume: 620.67K Avg Volume: 961.789K

CVH (Coventry Health Care--$60.75; -0.49; optionable): Health care plans
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/cvh.html
STATUS: Ascending base. Testing back on lower volume Thursday after a nice Wednesday move after the State of the Union address. May come back a bit more to test the move, heading toward 60. Want to be ready as it resumes the breakout move. To recap: CVH had formed a nice 14 week base that was making some higher lows along the 50 day EMA (57.81) the past 6 weeks. This base formed following the mid-October split; CVH had run for 13 months and needed a breather. This base gave it that rest and Wednesday CVH made the breakout move, rising on above average volume. Excellent 5 to 2 accumulation (5 up price weeks on rising volume to 2 down price weeks on rising volume) shows excellent buying. Looking to move in and start the play on a continued move higher and then again after the breakout test is complete.
Volume: 979.6K Avg Volume: 1.27M
BUY POINT: $61.57 Volume=1.3M Target=$70.95 Stop=$59.95

PSYS (Psychiatric Solutions--$32.85; -0.36; optionable): Specialized health services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/psys.html
After Hours: $32.89
STATUS: Breakout test. Gapped higher but then faded, testing the 18 day EMA (32.11) on the intraday low and rebounding to recoup much of the loss. Still working laterally in the flat test of the breakout. Still solid but needs to show some volume as it makes the break. To recap: PSYS broke out from a 7 week base in early January, surging on strong volume. It is making its second test of that move, easing back the past three sessions on much lower volume but holding onto its gains. It does not want to give the move up, a good sign. Strong money flow is leading higher and a good relative strength breakout shows the move has some guts.
Volume: 372.582K Avg Volume: 580.233K
BUY POINT: New: $33.12 (orig. $32.88) on the rebound Volume=800K Target=$38.95 Stop=$31.77

Play Date: 01/23/2006
SRZ (Sunrise Assisted Living--$36.35; +0.05; optionable): Long-term care facilities
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/srz.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Volume jumped back above average Thursday as SRZ showed a doji with tail, tapping the 18 day EMA (35.75) on the low and rebounding. Nice base and just about ready to make the break higher. To recap: Still holding over the 10 day EMA, its resting point the past week as it came back to form the handle to its short 7 week base that is setting it up for a new all-time high. Used the 50 day EMA (34.83) as support, an important level for a stock to consolidate. Looking for a strong volume kick as we saw on Thursday and a move that sticks.
Volume: 434.9K Avg Volume: 365.464K
BUY POINT: New: $36.72 (orig. $36.25) Volume=565K Target=$41.95 Stop=$34.98
