THE PLAYS

Wednesday night play results:
AMKR: Wrong way as semiconductors got whacked
CHRS: Took a low volume pause at the 10 day EMA
VAS: Charged up again but could not finish the move.

New Plays:

Upside:

Play Date: 03/16/2006
ANDS (Anadys Pharmaceuticals--$15.51; +0.59; optionable): Biotechnology
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/ands.html
STATUS: Test breakout. ANDS broke higher in mid-February, rallying on strong volume out of a 23 week base. It moved to 15 on the breakout run then slid laterally the past two weeks as the market sold, waiting for the 10 day EMA (14.67) to come up and give it support. It did that this week and Thursday ANDS jumped on very strong volume. Looking to move in as it continues the move. The smaller biotechs have become quite hot of late. Positive accumulation paired up with strong money flow. Relative strength broke out on the move, a very good indication for the stock price. Oh, and moving to a new all-time high as well.
Volume: 771.386K Avg Volume: 177.92K
BUY POINT: $15.68 Volume=250K Target=$18.95 Stop=$14.65
POSITION: QDZ GC - July $15c (58 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 03/16/2006
TKC (Turkcell--$18.41; +0.70; optionable): Turkish wireless telecom
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/t/tkc.html
STATUS: Test 50 day EMA. TKC broke out in late December from a 12 month base. The stock then rallied up the 10 and 18 day EMA (now at 17.90) through February. It needed a rest after that run and it has come back to the 50 day EMA (17.30) the past three weeks, hitting that level two weeks back and moving laterally. Volume started to spike Tuesday, and it was up again Thursday as TKC made the move through the short term moving averages. A strong stock will breakout, run up the short term moving averages, then test the 50 day EMA. If it is still going to run it will show strong volume off the 50 day. TKC is doing just that. Looking to start some positions on a continued move.
Volume: 576.8K Avg Volume: 340.028K
BUY POINT: $18.68 Volume=365K Target=$22.45 Stop=$17.62
POSITION: TKC GW - July $17.50c (62 delta) &/or Stock

Downside:

Play Date: 03/16/2006
SMH (Semiconductor Holders Trust--$35.62; -1.21; optionable)
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/smh.html
STATUS: Put. SMH is breaking down from a head and shoulders pattern of sorts that formed over the past 13 weeks. It broke through the 200 day SMA (36.57) last week, rallied to test this week, and then failed miserably Thursday on above average volume. May try to rebound some Friday after that hard drop, but it looks to have cracked the support and looking for it to trend lower some more. A move to the initial target lands us a 50%ish move.
Volume: 22.128M Avg Volume: 17.825M
BUY POINT: $35.48 Volume=20M Target=$34 Stop=$36.95
POSITION: SMH QG - May $35p (-39 delta)

Continuing play ready to move:

Play Date: 03/14/2006
PRFT (Perficient--$11.25; +0.16; no options): Business software
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/prft.html
STATUS: Test breakout. It is time. Volume was strong Thursday as PRFT once more held in its tight lateral range after breaking higher to end last week on another strong volume spike. That move took it out of an 8 week base formed on the 50 day EMA (10.26). Very strong with surging money flow and relative strength ready to show the breakout move.
Volume: 274.803K Avg Volume: 177.757K
BUY POINT: $11.32 Volume=268K Target=$13.65 Stop=$10.69
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

SUBSCRIBER PORTFOLIO: These are stocks subscribers suggest by vote that we put in a portfolio to track and move into the stocks if they perform well. If you have any suggestions for additions or deletions, email us. We don't cover them all each report, just when something interesting is developing.

AAPL, BRCM, CELG, COH, FFIV, GME, MRVL, NVDA, PSYS, UNH

AAPL: Turning down from the 18 day EMA after trying to rebound on an upgrade. Was not enough to push it higher.

BRCM: Gapped higher then closed lower on rising, below average volume. Still holding the range, but the action has deteriorated and the pattern is toppish.

MRVL: Diving through the recent lows on higher volume. At some support at 55.

PSYS: Volume moved above average as PSYS moved back through the 50 day EMA (31.67). Still a toppy pattern but making the move it had to.
