http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/cell.html
EARNINGS: May 9
After Hours: $32.07
STATUS: Ascending base. After a strong breakout in February, CELL slipped into the current 9 week lateral base, setting up for the next move higher as it worked laterally along the 18 day EMA (30.92). Excellent 4 to 0 accumulation in the pattern shows all buying as CELL forges to a new high. Dipped last week and then surged on solid trade Wednesday. Good shakeout and recovery. Testing back on lower volume Thursday; after this test it will be ready to move back up.

DIOD (Diodes--$41.87; -1.08; optionable): Semiconductor integrated circuits
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/diod.html
STATUS: Breakout test. DIOD broke higher on above average volume Wednesday, clearing an 8 week ascending base. Solid pattern using the 50 day EMA (38.72) as support, setting up the breakout. This test is giving us a good entry point as it taps toward the 10 day EMA (40.94) and starts the rebound. Solid leader that is following the money. Relative strength broke out on the Wednesday move, a good indication it is going to continue higher. A leader in its sector.

This focus on leaders in good patterns allows us to make good money even if companies do not announce the split. The key with splits is the pattern.
ANSS: Looking for an announcement with its shareholder meeting that will occur in late May or early June (date not yet set).
ASEI: Tentatively set for 5-12-06 (Just announced earnings on 2-8-06). Good recovery over the 50 day EMA and testing that move now. This may give us the move we want.
BNI: Forecast to announce a split 4-25-06
CLF: Forecast 4-26-06
CNQ: Forecast 5-4-06
CX: Forecast 4-28-06

NEW PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS:
Play Date: 04/20/2006
RIO (Companhia Vale Do Rio Doce--$49.45; -0.86; optionable): Steel and iron. Forecast 5-10-06
BACKGROUND: Last split 3:1 on 9-7-04 at $57.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/r/rio.html
STATUS: Reverse head and shoulders. Nice 12 week base has formed just below a new all-time high as RIO consolidates its strong 2005 move and regroups for another run higher. Tried to make the move Tuesday but volume was still below average and it faded. Thursday RIO tested the 18 day EMA (48.35) on the low and rebounded to recoup much of the loss. Volume rose, indicating some buying pushed it back up after the test. Excellent 5 to 1 accumulation in the pattern (5 up price weeks on rising volume to 1 down price weeks on rising volume) shows strong accumulation. Thursday all commodities and metals were getting hit; after this test we are ready to move in on the upside breakout.
Volume: 3.296M Avg Volume: 3.455M
BUY POINT: $50.75 Volume=5.2M Target=$58.50 Stop=$48.22

GPRO (Gen Probe--$55.05; +1.42; optionable): Diagnosis products. Forecast to announce a split 5-2-06
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 2:1 split 9-5-03 at $59.50.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/g/gpro.html
STATUS: Test 50 day EMA. GPRO broke out from a 12 month base in early March, posting a solid gain from 50 to 56 on almost two weeks of strong, above average volume. It peaked and then slid laterally, falling to the 50 day EMA (52.39) the past week. That kept its breakout in tact, however, shaking out the short term sellers. Thursday it jumped higher on sharp, above average volume. Looks ready to continue the breakout toward a new all-time high. Solid, solid leader.
Volume: 435.889K Avg Volume: 359.959K

CONTINUING PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS:
Play Date: 04/14/2006
BNI (Burlington Northern--$85.14; -0.64; optionable): Railroads. Forecast 4-25-06.
BACKGROUND: Announced its only split (3:1) in February 1998.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/bni.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Nice break higher Tuesday as BNI resumed its move after a weeklong test at the 18 day EMA (83.65). Wednesday and Thursday it faded to test once more, holding above the 10 day EMA (84.43) on low volume Thursday. Nice test, giving us a good entry point on the rebound. To recap: BNI ran hard from November through January and needed a breather. It formed an 8 week base using the 50 day EMA (80.65) as support. It did not dip much in the base as not many wanted to sell it. Nice surge out of that pattern to start the month and then a test the past week as the market pulled back. Nice low volume fade to the 18 day EMA that held the breakout and is setting up the next run in the breakout move. Strong 4 to 0 accumulation in the base shows all buying. Strong money flow to match, and a relative strength breakout when the stock broke higher to start April.
Volume: 1.519M Avg Volume: 2.174M
BUY POINT: New: $85.65 (orig. $83.88) Volume=2.5M Target=$96.95 Stop=$84.00
POSITION: BNI GP - July $80c (58 delta) &/or Stock

New buy point on a current position:
Play Date: 04/19/2006
DO (Diamond Offshore--$94.75; -0.27; optionable): Offshore oil and gas drilling
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/do.html
EARNINGS: 4-26-06
STATUS: Test breakout. Big doji with tail Thursday as DO reached down to the 18 day EMA (91.01) on the low and rebounded to close flat on lower but still above average volume. Good shakeout that is setting up the next break higher over resistance at 95. To recap: DO has bunched up below 95 the past three weeks, making higher lows along the 10 day EMA (92.93). DO is building pressure from below for the next move higher. Volume surged Tuesday and Wednesday, volume spikes that tell us to get ready for the next move higher. DO can run like the wind when it starts. Looks ready to make a move into its earnings.
Volume: 3.116M Avg Volume: 2.809M
BUY POINT: $95.48 Volume=2.8M Target=$109.95 Stop=$92.25
POSITION: DO IS - Sept. $95c (58 delta) &/or Stock

CONTINUING PRE-SPLIT PLAYS:
Play Date: 04/11/2006
BLUD (Immucor--$30.40; 0.00; optionable): Diagnostic testing. Splits 3:2 on 5-16-06
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/blud.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. And still waiting for BLUD to show us the move. Tight doji with tail Thursday continues the weeklong lateral move setting up the breakout. Just needs to show some volume and the price move. Not asking for blood. To recap: BLUD has now formed a 10 week cup with handle base over the 50 day EMA (29.20) acting as the handle to a larger 11 month cup with handle. Solid volume last week as BLUD rallied up toward the breakout, and solid volume Tuesday on the announcement. It could not hold the move given the market, but very strong and ready for the breakout move. Solid 3 to 1 accumulation (3 up price weeks on rising volume to 1 down price weeks on rising volume) in this short handle, showing plenty of buying.
Volume: 246.774K Avg Volume: 361.235K
BUY POINT: $31.45 Volume=528K Target=$36.95 Stop=$29.45
POSITION: QMQ IF - Sept. $30c (63 delta) &/or Stock

CONTINUING POST-SPLIT PLAYS:
Play Date: 04/18/2006
ADSK (Autodesk--$42.93; -0.38; optionable): Design software and services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/adsk.html
After Hours: $42.90
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle. Continued a bit lower Thursday on lower, below average volume, still coming back from the strong upside move Tuesday. Still in excellent shape to give us the continued break higher. Nice leader setting up well. To recap: Great market leader that had a great 2005 and has formed a nice 6 month base to reset and set up its next move. Solid 8 to 5 accumulation in the base shows net buying, setting up the next breakout and run higher. Nice volume the past two weeks, and Tuesday it was up again as ADSK broke through the high of the handle. Strong leader with good fundamentals. Looking to move in as it continues higher.
Volume: 2.359M Avg Volume: 3.117M
BUY POINT: $43.89 Volume=3.2M Target=$52.00 Stop=$41.55
POSITION: ADQ GH - July $40c (72 delta) &/or Stock

CONTINUING LEADER PLAYS:
Play Date: 04/18/2006
SNDK (Sandisk--$65.54; +1.77; optionable): Semiconductor memory chips; Flash memory, memory cards
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/sndk.html
After Hours: $62.20
STATUS: Reverse head and shoulders. Reported earnings after hours. It was initially down but then rebounded for just a modest loss. Results were good but the market was not in the mood at first. GOOG helped warm it up. Looking for a bit of weakness and then a move back up through the buy point as investors pile back in. To recap: The stock's showed some solid volume action this month, just about all of it coming on upside sessions. Nice above average volume spike Tuesday as SNDK cleared some recent highs, making a higher low off of the 50 day EMA (59.79). After a strong run in 2005 it needed this rest, and it looks to have set up well.
Volume: 15.767M Avg Volume: 12.464M
BUY POINT: $64.88 Volume=13M Target=$76.95 Stop=$62.65
POSITION: SWF GZ - July $62.50c (58 delta) &/or Stock
