CLDN (Celadon Group--$29.01; -0.67; no options): Air delivery and freight
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/cldn.html
STATUS: Test breakout. CLDN has moved laterally the past week, easing back to the 10 day EMA (28.77) on low, below average volume. This follows the mid-April breakout from a solid 9 week base. Top fundamentals to go with its push higher. Like how it is making its test, ignoring the selling, setting up for a run at a new all-time high. Ready to move in as it makes the move higher.

PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS

Current Pre-Announcement Plays:

This is a list of stocks we are looking to announce splits. We are not in all of the potential splits plays but are letting them set up for the next move. In each report we look at the candidates that are in the best patterns ahead of their potential announcements. This focus on leaders in good patterns allows us to make good money even if companies do not announce the split. The key with splits is the pattern.

ANSS: Looking for an announcement with its shareholder meeting that will occur in late May or early June (date not yet set).

DAKT: Looking for a possible announcement with its June 1 board meeting.

DO: Forecast for the 5-22-06 shareholder meeting.

ESI: Researching the date.

GG: Forecast 5-15-06. Declaring dividends each month thus far in 2006

LCAV: Researching split date

LRCX: No split in April. Enjoying the ride as we inquire about the next potential date.

LUK: Researching date.

PCU: Researching the next date

PLCE: Forecast 5-18-06 or with the shareholder meeting on 6-22-06.

POT: Researching the date. Nice move continues

RIO: Forecast 5-10-06. No split announced but RIO gave us a nice run to the number, and after this pullback we will look at more positions.

SNDK: Researching the date.

TSCO: Forecast mid-July

UBB: Wildcard with a potential split announcement on 5-11-06. Not ready for its first split. After this test we are looking for more positions.

WSM: Researching date

NEW PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS:

Play Date: 05/11/2006
CTRN (Citi Trends--$51.05; -0.49; no options): Apparel stores. Wildcard forecast 5-18-06
BACKGROUND: No splits in this stock's relatively young history.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/ctrn.html
After Hours: $50.95
STATUS: Breakout test. A new issue in May 2005. Broke out from a 12 week cup with handle base to start May, surging on strong volume to a new high. Excellent pattern and excellent fundamentals. Strong money flow is moving higher. Nice test to the 18 day EMA (50.90) is holding the breakout. Looking for a bounce on another shot of strong volume.
Volume: 124.835K Avg Volume: 230.205K
BUY POINT: $52.52 Volume=300K Target=$62.95 Stop=$50.72
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Play Date: 05/11/2006
DE (Deere & Co.--$88.62; -2.18; optionable): Farm and construction machinery. Forecast 5-16-06.
BACKGROUND: No splits in Deere's history.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/de.html
STATUS: Test 18 day EMA. DE has run well and others in its sector are announcing splits. It rallied well in April and has spent the past two weeks moving laterally in a tight range, setting up the next move higher. Thursday it got the dips with the market, but held above the 18 day EMA (88.16) on the close. Looking for it to rebound off this test ahead of the coming earnings.
Volume: 2.262M Avg Volume: 2.009M
BUY POINT: $89.65 Volume=2.5M Target=$103.95 Stop=$88.04
POSITION: DE IR - Sept. $90c (60 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 05/11/2006
WCN (Waste Connections--$39.73; -0.31; optionable): Waste management. Forecast 5-25-06 at 10:00PT with its annual shareholder meeting.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 3:2 split on 5-26-04 at $41.80.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/w/wcn.html
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle. Short but nice pattern over the 50 day EMA (38.65) is consolidating the breakout move form a big 9 month base in March. Forming the handle to the base, coming back to tap the 18 day EMA (39.34) on the low and rebounding to cut the losses. Money flow is running higher ahead of price. Just want to see the volume run higher as WCN moves to a new all-time high.
Volume: 369K Avg Volume: 529.284K
BUY POINT: $40.22 Volume=600K Target=$46.95 Stop=$39.00
POSITION: WCN JH - Oct. $40c (60 delta) &/or Stock

CONTINUING PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS:

Play Date: 05/02/2006
DO (Diamond Offshore--$94.67; -0.98; optionable): Oil and gas offshore drilling. Researching the date.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a split 7-10-97 at $82.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/d/do.html
STATUS: Test breakout. Gapped higher Thursday on the Nigeria worries, etc. but could not hold the move, falling to the 10 day EMA on the close. Still looking for that break higher out of this lateral move. To recap: Broke out from a nice 9 week range in late April, surging on strong volume. It moved to 95 and started to move laterally once more, setting the groundwork for the next move. Like the high volume Friday as DO narrows its range and taps at the breakout point. Strong market leader, and looking to move in as it continues higher.
Volume: 2.952M Avg Volume: 2.665M
BUY POINT: $96.55 Volume=2.8M Target=$109.95 Stop=$92.00
POSITION: DO IS - Sept. $95c (58 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/do.html

Play Date: 05/06/2006
LCAV (LCA-Vision--$55.36; -1.21; optionable): Laser vision centers. Announced earnings 4-25-06. Researching split date.
BACKGROUND: Last announced a 3:2 split on 11-17-04 at $32.20.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/l/lcav.html
After Hours: $55.33
STATUS: Test breakout. Got some of the dips Thursday as did most stocks, but volume remained below average and LCAV tapped the 18 day EMA (54.65) on the low and recovered. From here it looks like a good shakeout in a bad market, showing its strength. To recap: LCAV gapped higher two weeks back on very strong volume, rallying on strong earnings results. That move took it out of an 11 week cup base in one quick move. It has spent the past two weeks testing, a lateral move with a slight fade toward the 10 day EMA on low, below average volume. Positive accumulation in the base shows net buying as LCAV sets up for a new all-time high with a continuation of its breakout move. Friday it showed a nice doji on the candlestick chart, potentially indicating the move high is going to continue. Very nice.
Volume: 500.195K Avg Volume: 728.452K
BUY POINT: $57.98 Volume=1.1M Target=$69.50 Stop=$55.00
POSITION: JVQ IL - Sept. $60c (49 delta) &/or Stock

CONTINUING PRE-SPLIT PLAYS:

Play Date: 05/06/2006
APC (Anadarko Petroleum--$106.71; -2.02; optionable): Independent oil and gas exploration and production. Splits 2:1 on 5-30-06
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/apc.html
After Hours: $106.71
STATUS: Test 50 day EMA. As with many energy stocks, APC gapped higher but could not hold the move. It faded back to the 18 day EMA (106.94) to close. Looking for it to hold near this level and then resume the break higher. To recap: APC set up a nice 12 week cup base and broke higher in mid-April, rallying close to 114 on the move. It failed to hold the nice break higher, however, selling off with most of the energy sector to end the month. It has managed to come back to the 50 day EMA (104.77), holding that support last Thursday as it tested lower and rebounded on strong volume. Looking at this as the shakeout and ready to move in as APC runs higher through the 10 day EMA on some better volume.
Volume: 2.204M Avg Volume: 2.355M
BUY POINT: $107.25 Volume=2.7M Target=$120.00 Stop=$104.00
POSITION: APC HA - Aug. $105c (57 delta)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/apc.html

Play Date: 05/09/2006
HTLD (Heartland Express--$24.57; -0.36; optionable): Trucking. Splits 4:3 on 5-16-06
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/h/htld.html
After Hours: $24.72
STATUS: Test 10 day EMA. HTLD fell to the 18 day EMA (24.43) Thursday, but volume remained very low as it did; not bad in a weak market and we view it as a good shakeout. Looking for volume to rise as it moves off this test. Split is just three sessions away and HTLD has shown the ability to bounce well; it can give us a nice bounce into the split and indeed, it is likely to move on through the split given the nice test ahead of it. To recap: Strong move off the 200 day SMA (21.41) in mid-April, surging to 26. Needed to test that move and came back to the 18 day EMA to start May. Good bounce last week and now making another test ahead of the split.
Volume: 235.664K Avg Volume: 421.756K
BUY POINT: $25.62 Volume=525K Target=$30.50 Stop=$24.55
POSITION: QHK IE - Sept. $25c (57 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/htld.html

CONTINUING POST-SPLIT PLAYS:

Play Date: 05/10/2006
CELG (Celgene--$42.32; -0.56; optionable): Biotechnology
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/celg.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Still working on its lateral handle in a tight range, ignoring the selling Thursday. It did test lower, tapping the 10 day EMA (41.74) on the low but rebounding. Volume was low so no selling. Very nice and getting close. To recap: Made us some nice money in its past runs but needed a rest. It peaked at 44 to end March and then fell into the current 6 week base that used the 50 day EMA (39.73) as support. Positive accumulation and strong money flow complement one another. Volume jumped up to average Wednesday as CELG continued to trade in a narrow range. Looking for strong volume to send it to the breakout. Volume: 2.778M Avg Volume: 3.498M
BUY POINT: $43.55 Volume=5M Target=$52.00 Stop=$40.88
POSITION: LQH JV - Oct. $42.50c (62 delta) &/or Stock
