THE PLAYS
Good movers: AEM; DIA; GLBL
Thursday night play results:
AEM: Nice run higher on continued strong volume.
ARTC: Tested the 18 day EMA and rebounded, still set of the breakout
TIVO: Faded back to test on low volume.
BP: Traded flat on low volume, still ready to fall.
New Plays:
Upside:
Play Date: 09/02/2006
ABAX (Abaxis--$23.91; 0.00; optionable): Diagnostic substances
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/abax.html
STATUS: Ascending base. ABAX faded back some last week after a solid price move Monday and Tuesday took it over the tops of its early August high in its 16 week base. Solid market leader in a solid pattern making a series of higher highs and higher lows. Looking for that volume to kick back in as ABAX moves up off of this test of the near support at the 10 day EMA (23.59).
Volume: 125.561K Avg Volume: 269.424K
BUY POINT: $24.25 Volume=345K Target=$28.50 Stop=$23.25
POSITION: QOX AX - Jan. $22.50c (72 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 09/02/2006
AKAM (Akami Technologies--$40.63; +1.43; optionable): Content and business processes over the internet
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/akam.html
STATUS: Flying plateau. AKAM gapped higher in late July on strong earnings, rallied to 40, then started moving laterally all of August in a $2 range from 38 to 40 on mostly lower volume. Money flow has turned higher as it makes the lateral move. Price bounced out of the range Friday on rising but still below average volume. If it can continue it is a buy. Nice 3 to 0 accumulation in the lateral move (3 up price weeks on rising volume to 0 down price weeks on rising volume).
Volume: 3.195M Avg Volume: 3.813M
BUY POINT: $40.82 Volume=4M Target=$48.98 Stop=$38.95
POSITION: UMU AH - Jan. $40c (58 delta) &/or Stock

AMX (America Movil--$38.35; +1.04; optionable): Wireless telecom in Latin America
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/amx.html
STATUS: Test 18 day EMA. We took the rest of our gain on AMX when it got overeager to the downside Thursday, but said we would be back. Well, AMX rebounded Friday on a very strong shot of volume, bouncing up off the 18 day EMA (37.26). Ready to move back on as it continues higher.
Volume: 8.257M Avg Volume: 5.128M
BUY POINT: $38.75 Volume=7.7M Target=$44.95 Stop=$37.15
POSITION: AMX AG - Jan. $35c (72 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 09/02/2006
FMD (First Marblehead--$52.69; +0.19; optionable): Credit services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/f/fmd.html
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle. A very, very nice, quiet handle has formed to the 9 week base that set up at the 50 day EMA (49.74) as FMD consolidated the late 2005 and early 2006 run. Very nice action from this market leader, both in fundamentals and in pattern. Nice quiet test and now ready for some upside.
Volume: 382.7K Avg Volume: 937.556K
BUY POINT: $53.57 Volume=1.4M Target=$64.00 Stop=$52.15
POSITION: FMD LJ - Dec. $50c (66 delta) or FMD LK - Dec. $55c (48 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 09/02/2006
FORM (Formfactor--$47.63; -0.67; optionable): Semiconductors
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/f/form.html
STATUS: Test breakout. FORM is making the test of a strong move Wednesday that broke it higher from a ragged 7 week base. Strong move on strong volume and a nice test underway for this leading stock. May come all the way back to the 10 day EMA (46.63) to give a full test and a very nice entry point, but given the new season starts next week we will be ready to move in if it jumps from this level. A leader in the chips with strong fundamentals to go with the pattern.
Volume: 970.961K Avg Volume: 923.339K
BUY POINT: $46.89 Volume=1.1M Target=$53.95 Stop=$45.42
POSITION: AFU AI - Jan. $45c (66 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cd/form.html
Play Date: 09/02/2006
PQ (Petroquest Energy--$12.22; +0.19; optionable): Independent oil and gas
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/pq.html
STATUS: Ascending base. Taking another run at PQ as it continues to set up above the 18 day EMA (11.81) as it pinches off toward the end of its 18 week base. It got a bit wild Wednesday, gapping lower and falling to the 18 day EMA, but it held and continues to set up for the breakout. Strong upside volume Tuesday as it tried to make the move. Positive accumulation. Holding tough. Now it just needs to show the breakout.
Volume: 372.1K Avg Volume: 429.753K
BUY POINT: $12.68 Volume=450K Target=$15.00 Stop=$11.95
POSITION: PQ AV - Jan. $12.50c (58 delta) &/or Stock

AAPL, AKAM, CCJ, CELG, FLR, GME, MGPI, MRVL, NVDA, SGMS, WM
AAPL: Nice low volume to end the week as AAPL still works laterally over the 200 day SMA. Setting up nicely for the next break. A move over 69.10 on volume is a buy.
AKAM: Ready to breakout.
CCJ: Very nice volume to end the week. A move over 42 is a buy.
CELG: Well, not dead yet, rebounding Friday on stronger volume. Still below the 200 and 50 day EMA.
