THE PLAYS
Strong plays:
1) AMX: Solid volume continues as it moves off the 50 day EMA.
2) APC: Strong volume as it surges through the 200 day SMA.
3) ALXN: Still set to make the break higher and continue the breakout move
4) NUVO: Strong volume is ready to break it out.
5) TYL: Volume jumping as TYL starts its move.
NEW PLAYS:
Upside plays:
Play Date: 11/29/2006
AH (Armor Holdings--$57.43; +1.98; optionable): Vehicle armor systems
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/ah.html
STATUS: Double bottom. Strong volume and strong price move Wednesday as AH broke higher from a short handle in its 7 month base. News of a $53M contract helped push it along. Looking for a run up to the prior high near 65 that started this base after a strong 2003 to 2005 run.
Volume: 1.309M Avg Volume: 823.557K
BUY POINT: $57.72 Volume=825K Target=$66.45 Stop=$55.38
POSITION: AH BK - Feb. $55c (65 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 11/29/2006
AMX (America Movil--$44.56; +1.35; optionable): Latin American wireless telecom
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/amx.html
STATUS: Ascending base. AMX got a bit wild to start the week, fading from a breakout attempt just over a week back. It fell to the 50 day EMA (42) but found purchase there with some strong volume as it bounced off that key support. Looks like a shakeout that has set up the breakout from its short 5 week base that consolidated the early October move out of a larger 5 month pattern. Solid leader looking for a new all-time high.
Volume: 4.759M Avg Volume: 3.883M
BUY POINT: $44.89 Volume=4M Target=$53.95 Stop=$42.95
POSITION: AMX BI - Feb. $45c (56 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 11/29/2006
APC (Anadarko Petroleum--$49.63; +2.35; optionable): Independent oil and gas
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/apc.html
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle. Strong, above average volume Wednesday as APC broke through the 200 day SMA (47.75) that acted as a cap on the handle to APC's 7 month base. Another energy stock that enjoyed a big run through early 2006 and then needed a breather. This base has given it that rest, and the Wednesday break higher through key resistance is a good indication the buyers are back. May test a bit after such a strong move, but ready to move in with some positions as it continues higher.
Volume: 5.668M Avg Volume: 4.755M

SMTL (Semitool--$13.79; +0.03; optionable): Chip equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/smtl.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Nice ease back to the 10 day EMA (13.64) the past week as SMTL rests after a strong move higher two weeks back. You could label that move the breakout from its 9 month base and this is just a test, or you can call this the handle. Either way we like the pattern and we are looking to move in as it shows its next high volume break higher.
Volume: 109.54K Avg Volume: 133.823K
BUY POINT: $14.09 Volume=200K Target=$16.95 Stop=$13.54

CONTINUING PLAYS:
Upside:
Play Date: 11/27/2006
ALXN (Alexion Pharmaceuticals--$43.25; +0.25; optionable): Drugs
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/alxn.html
STATUS: Test 18 day EMA. Gapped higher but could not hold a move over the 10 day EMA just yet. Still a solid test of the breakout and still ready to move in as it shows a solid move back up. To recap: ALXN is making the second test of its early November breakout from an 8 month shallow cup with handle base. Solid volume as it surged higher this month, and then a very low volume test the past week. Monday it tapped the 18 day EMA (42.51) on the low and rebounded to recoup some losses. Money flow remains strong as it makes the test and filled the gap higher just over a week back. Solid action in this market, and expecting it to hold this level and then rebound to continue the breakout move.
Volume: 812.709K Avg Volume: 567.102K
BUY POINT: $43.75 Volume=800K Target=$51.95 Stop=$42.15
POSITION: XQN BH - Feb. $40c (71 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 11/28/2006
AMAG (Advanced Magnetics--$55.13; -0.42; optionable): Diagnostic services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/amag.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Still the nice test of the big break higher two weeks back. Nice low volume as it sets up for the move. To recap: Huge surge two weeks back broke AMAG out from its 7 month base. Strong move that made us some great money and now it has faded back to test the move, tapping the 10 day EMA (53.40) Tuesday on the low and rebounding for a gain. Looking to move in as this leader continues the move higher, stretching the breakout.
Volume: 212.382K Avg Volume: 336.905K

POSITION: AVM BK - Feb. $55c (58 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 11/20/2006
NUVO (Nuvelo--$19.63; +0.61; optionable): Biotechnology
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/n/nuvo.html
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle. Volume jumped above average Wednesday as NUVO moved off of the 50 day EMA test (18.86). Ready to make the breakout. To recap: Textbook 12 week base has formed using the 200 day SMA (17.45) as support for the second leg hit in the first week of November. A solid price and volume move off that level and then as pullback the past three sessions to form a handle to the base. Volume exploded higher Monday. Money flow is surging higher ahead of price and NUVO looks ripe to follow it.
Volume: 1.114M Avg Volume: 473.411K
BUY POINT: $19.75 Volume=500K Target=$23.98 Stop=$18.89
POSITION: CDQ DD - Apr. $20c (53 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/ct/nuvo.html
Play Date: 11/21/2006
OMCL (Omnicell--$18.78; +0.40; optionable): Patient safety for healthcare facilities.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/o/omcl.html
STATUS: Test 50 day EMA. Volume jumped above average as OMCL jumped off the 50 day (18.20) and over the 18 day EMA (18.57). Money flow continues to move higher, and this looks as if it could be the move that sends OMCL on its next run.
Volume: 328.764K Avg Volume: 243.648K
BUY POINT: $19.69 Volume=325K Target=$23.65 Stop=$18.31
POSITION: UMK BD - Feb. $17.50c (70 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 11/21/2006
SINA (Sina.com--$28.26; +0.20; optionable): Online media in China
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/sina.html
STATUS: Breakout test. Another hold at the 18 day EMA (28.08), this time on much lower, below average volume as SINA continues to set up the next spike higher. Just being patient to let it make the move. To recap: SINA blasted higher to start November, breaking out from a 6 month cup with handle base. This is part of a longer three year pattern, but this last base has moved it off the bottom, indicating SINA is ready to embark upon a more interesting run higher. Nice hold of the 18 day EMA as it tested the past week, bouncing off that level Tuesday on stronger, above average volume. Strong money flow is running higher ahead of price and we are ready to move in as it makes the breakout.
Volume: 448.035K Avg Volume: 850.512K

TYL (Tyler Technologies--$14.57; +0.51; no options): Information management solutions for governments
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/t/tyl.html
STATUS: Ascending base. Strong volume and a solid price move Wednesday. Looks as if TYL is going to make a new high as it makes a break from its 11 week base.
Volume: 455.8K Avg Volume: 255.258K
BUY POINT: $14.52 Volume=265K Target=$17.48 Stop=$13.65
