THE PLAYS
Good movers: BSC; CRAY; FFIV; HCP; HMSY; IBM; LEH; NITE; SYK; WFR
Best Plays:
1) ASIA: Lots of momentum on this move.
2) IIVI: Nice pullback to near support
3) BMC: Excellent breakout test.
4) ININ: Volume is up; just looking for the breakaway move
5) KNOL: Still ready to move after that Tuesday attempt.
New Plays:
Upside:
Play Date: 01/10/2007
ASIA (Asiainfo Hldgs--$7.76; +0.16; optionable): Security software in China
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/asia.html
EARNINGS: 1-24-07
STATUS: Breakout test. In late November ASIA broke sharply higher from a 7 month shallow cup base, surging on very strong trade. It has rallied to just over 8 and is making its second test of that breakout. Strong stocks typically make 4 to 5 runs after the breakout, using the 10 or 18 day EMA as support. ASIA has refused to give up any gains after this last run, working laterally in a narrow range as the 10 day EMA (7.50) moved up to meet it. Strong, strong money flow is running higher ahead of price. Nice low volume lateral move; looking for volume to kick back in as it makes its next run higher.

BUY POINT: $7.96 Volume=500K Target=$9.78 Stop=$7.40
POSITION: EUJ GU - July $7.50c (67 delta) &/or Stock

EFUT (E-Future Information--$34.78; -0.22; no options): Software for Chinese manufacturers, retailers, etc.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/e/efut.html
STATUS: Test 18 day EMA. A new issue in late October, EFUT surged higher on the initial run, peaking near 47 and then slipping into the current 6 week test that has held near support at the 10 and 18 day EMA (35.19). Working on its first base since coming public, the point where we like to move in as they set up and start their next run. It may go on with making the base, but it looks as if it is going to hold the line near the 18 day EMA and start up from there to form the right side of its base. Want to see the volume start up smartly as it starts higher as that shows us the buyers are back in and accumulating positions.

New buy points on current positions:
Play Date: 01/10/2007
BMC (BMC Software--$34.98; +0.34; optionable): Application software
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/bmc.html
STATUS: Test breakout. BMC blasted out of its 7 week flat base to start the year, giving us a good entry point. After a quick surge it tested for three sessions, coming back close to the 10 day EMA (34.08) on the Wednesday low. It bounced from there though volume did not follow it. Money flow is leading higher and we are looking for some more volume as BMC breaks higher once more. That is when we step back in. Love moving in on the first breakout test when the stock turns back up.

IIVI (Ii-Vi, Inc.--$29.11; +0.11; optionable): Lasers for precision industrial, military, medical, aerospace industries
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/i/iivi.html
STATUS: Breakout test. After a nice breakout and jog higher from its 8 week ascending base, IIVI is testing, tapping at the 10 day EMA (28.62) on the Wednesday low and rebounding on a nice shot of rising, above average volume. Another first test of the breakout that looks successful and ready to yield the next run higher.

CONTINUING PLAYS:
Upside:
Play Date: 01/06/2007
AMKR (Amkor Technology--$10.60; +0.18; optionable): Semiconductor integrated circuits
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/amkr.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Still working toward the breakout, just clearing the buy point Wednesday but on continued below average volume. Not enough to get us to venture into it after it has moved higher all week. A blast higher from here on volume is an entry point to start a partial position. Then we look for the test to hold and start back up; that is when we add to positions. To recap: Another semiconductor that is setting up a nice pattern and heading for the breakout. Volume moved higher last week (not an uncommon occurrence after the holiday week) but it did so in the right way, i.e. on a strong Wednesday upside move. It looks to have completed the handle to its 8 month base. Money flow is leading higher and just letting AMKR show us the breakout price and volume move.
Volume: 2.95M Avg Volume: 3.855M

CBG (CB Richard Ellis--$34.25; +0.28; optionable): Property management
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/cbg.html
STATUS: Test breakout. Still working laterally in its 7 week ascending base using the 18 day EMA (33.23) as support. Volume was higher Wednesday as CBG broke higher, but still well below average so we held off from taking positions. Still solid and if it gets some volume it is a buy on this move.
Volume: 1.941M Avg Volume: 2.623M

Play Date: 01/08/2007
ININ (Interactive Intelligence--$22.03; +0.21; no options): Business communications automation software
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/i/inin.html
STATUS: Test breakout. Moving higher on rising, above average volume Wednesday, flirting with the breakout all session. On another push higher we will look at opening the play. To recap: ININ broke out from a short 7 week base in mid-December and is making its second test of that move, tapping the 18 day EMA last week on the low and holding at the 10 day EMA (21.14). After two days going nowhere it started back up Monday on rising but still slightly below average volume. Nice action from this leader, however, and looking to move in as it continues its break higher. Excellent relative strength and solid money flow.

INWK (Innerworkings, Inc.--$16.46; -0.06; no options): Print procurement
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/i/inwk.html
STATUS: Test 50 day EMA. Nice series of dojis at the 50 day SMA (16.19) as INWK holds the line and sets up for the next bounce higher in its uptrend. Low volume the past two sessions; just have to be patient and let it show us a good break higher. To recap; A new issue in August, INWK rallied from 10 to 18 and then needed a breather. It has come back to the 50 day EMA (16.10), holding that level the past week. Volume has started edging higher as it comes off the 50 day. Looking for some strong volume as it blasts higher to continue its run.
Volume: 194.965K Avg Volume: 304.744K

KNOL (Knology, Inc.--$11.04; -0.19; no options): Wireless telecom
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/k/knol.html
STATUS: Ascending base. Stalled slightly after that big try at the breakout on Tuesday. Still a nice pattern, still solid volume. Just need to show us the breakout move. To recap: Volume jumped as did price Tuesday as KNOL tried the breakout from a 22 week base formed using the 50 day EMA (10.41) as support as it made higher lows. Very strong money flow is leading higher and KNOL looks super for the breakout (sorry; could not come up with a clever, snappy line).
Volume: 162.079K Avg Volume: 125.421K
BUY POINT: $11.38 Volume=165K Target=$13.95 Stop=$10.58

Play Date: 01/03/2007
VCLK (Valueclick--$23.16; -0.34; optionable): Internet advertising services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/v/vclk.html
STATUS: Test 50 day EMA. After a strong run in November and early December, VCLK has pulled back to test, coming all the way back to the 50 day EMA (22.78) Wednesday, tapping that support on the intraday low before bouncing back up on rising trade. Nice test of key support before continuing higher here in new all-time high territory.
Volume: 1.779M Avg Volume: 2.306M
BUY POINT: $24.31 Volume=3.5M Target=$29.32 Stop=$23.15
